So apt. Like you have said to survive in a corporate firm as a designer in house, you just have to be open to what is not in your job description. As an in house designer for an FMCG, I will also like to add these:
Most of your ideas come from your colleagues whom you relate well with. So ask for their opinions on your projects
Be loose and not rigid to positive criticism, because it will eventually pay your an honor when your boss's boss sees your project and not your critic.

Highly insightful which I can relate to. As a designer (Built Environment) in the corporate environment, a number of times one has to go beyond the formal scope of work to ensure a particular job is done to satisfaction.
