Ok, so i tried the patch only, because i already had 4.1. Turns out, the patch is for the steam version and i had the GoG version, so everything was patched except the the .exe. (checksum error, naturally). So i downloaded THIS version here, all over again, hoping that it would be compatible with the update. Took me hours on end because some archives kept being corrupt but this most likely was the download providers fault (Mega). Eventually i was able to download all archives without CRC errors, installed the iso (which is 4.1, not 4.0) and applied the update and it works now.
I wasn't. The version offered here is 4.0, the update is 4.1 to 4.3. After downloading all those Gigabytes, i was left with the 4.0 version and the 4.1 to 4.3 patch which naturally didn't work.

Actually i am searching for this game..finally i found it" and then dump your link to god knows what,. 5 posts on similar disscusion boards all saying almost the exact same thing all posted at same time AND with a profile pic that says tricky hacker AND your following a internet hacking community?!? your a little bit of a concern. id advise anyone to think twice before clicking that link of his
X rebirth seemed a great game back when it's out. The concept was nice, the graphics was also despite the bugs, inconsistency, and downright unstable gameplay turning it into a game breaker mechanic, but that was 1.0. It may have all been fixed and working as intended now. Would appreciate whoever tries it and give positive feedback.

FML :D ah well at least my opinion on X-rebirth is made nice and clear, with references to abortions of deformed children through to no mans sky and some other ramblings inbetween at least it was some fun ranting. think ill be off now :D

X-rebirth is a spinoff from the X series universe and has little in common with any of the previous X series games besides some names and it having space trading. The 4 in the title doesnt come from being a 4th game in the series it comes from being out for 4 years and its now upto version 4.10. to give it a fair analogy... if X3 was the tv series "stargate sg1" then X-rebirth is the spinoff "stargate universe" both had a stargate in the title but very little else in common

Its a spinoff from the x series universe not a sequel. Xrebirth has very little in common with the previous X series games which i love but rebirth i cant discuss without getting the post removed, take what you wish from that. tbh try it, hell you might love it just dont go in expecting X series gameplay or mechanics on anything. or just check some lets plays and save yourself the hassle of downloading/installing/playing it. personally id rather play no mans sky and never visit a planet ever, thats pretty much same thing in a prettier but more bitter tasting shell
Bro. Trust me - do NOT play this. If you want to play X³, play Reunion / Terran Conflict or Albion Prelude. There is a TON of mods and stuff to enjoy them and expand them. X Rebirth is basically their attempt at re-rolling the series - except a couple of things have changed since then for the good.
YOU CANNOT fire with your LMB. Why? Because LMB is assigned to select targets. Even if you assign it via ingame-files, you end up selecting AND shooting at the same time whenever you try to land.
YOU CANNOT SWITCH SHIPS - you only fly one frigatte the whole game. You can hire pilots so that they can fly the cool stuff...but you cannot.
The controls are made for console. You know, since X always had only a few keybindings....oh, right, you utilize pretty much the whole fucking keyboard. Radial menus - i hope you love the everliving shit out of them, cause boooi, they are everywhere.
Stations are not stations but megahubs. A cluster of stuff - you don't even see consisting of what. It's aaaaall the stations fused into one. Want to know how to land? Well, you have to fly up manually to the right one, then you can dock. Want to know which one is the right one? Press about 5 buttons in order to even get to the menu.
No Jumpgates, not Jumpdrive. You have to take a hyperspeed highway whenever you go to a different and it's not a loading screen - it's a minigame where you have to dodge stuff and trail ships in order to get to another system in less than 2-3 minutes. Imagine you want to get from one point in the galaxy to another. Yeah. Have fun. It will be a journey, alright.

Apparently a lot has been fixed/changed since the train crash of the X-Rebirth 1.0 release 4years ago, hence the v4.0 (it is not x4 its rebirth version4) and i havnt played it for a loooong time but dont go in expecting something like x series. last time i played it it had more in common with mickeys magic doodle game than it had in common with anything from x1, x2, x3, the expansions or mods. X-Rebirth should never have been born, how its survived to this day being given more and more development is beyond me. A real x4 could be out by now if they had left this trash in the bin that the x series community put it in. will this game never die? as a point of reference, take any beloved trilogy of films lets say starwars 4-6, pick a single character that could fit into the starwars universe, lets say jar jar binks and make a new film entirely about him sailing around a beautiful ocean in a peddleboat doing menial tasks that are drawn out to be as dull and annoying as possible... you know what... this analogy isnt doing justice... x-rebirth is far worse in regards to being part of the x series than the existance of jar jar fucking binks in a spinoff movie. thats what x-rebirth is, a spinoff from the x series but it was really bad in respect to the series and even as a standalone it was kinda like no mans sky without the endless systems, without visiting planets, without needing to mine rocks but with flying from a to b taking much longer, whats left you ask? a waste of time for everyone involved
