the game doesn't detect my controller for some reason. i tried some other games and used my controller and it works fine. i tried multiple things to make the game detect the controller and it doesn't work. it would be big help if someone tells me how to fix it.
I don't know why but the game starts up fine for me but it always gets stuck on loading screens,I even had a previous save from when I had donwloaded it from the torrent site a long while ago and that version ran fine,but this just cannot make it past the loading for some reason.Hell,it's not even like the game crashes or anything,the knight gif is always being rendered.Anyone know how to fix this?
Search for a folder called CODEX (I assume that's what you mean by codes) and open it, after that copy the files in there and paste them into the directory. (The directory is the folder where the game EXE is)
If you have steam installed, open the store, search hollow knight, and scroll until you find "update history" If the game here matches the legal version, it should have all the same patches and such, that's what I do at least. click on "view update history", and you should find what you're looking for.

Hello, I've got an issue. Why does Steam opens when I run the game? I tried to even run it without internet connection but still Steam was being forced to open. Did I do something wrong?
How can I update the game? When I try the setup of the update an error happens, saying something like "you may not have the necessary permissions to access the file" and my antivirus deletes the setup app shortly thereafter
I did the download in the "Uptobox" then extract it to a carpet then I openned the Update carpet and clicked "Setup" cause in the CODEX carpet there's only a bunch of steams files

Hollow Knight's room is cursed, I guess. Changed everything to the lowest settings possible but the game still stutters every 5 seconds in his room, it's really weird that I don't encounter this problem in the Lifeblood 1.3.1.5 release though.

Maybe it's the settings within the game conflicting with your pc? I remember with some games (Final fantasy x) scenes crashed the games and changing the resolution low for the time being fixed it. of course put it back to the original settings you had before.
I tried changing everything to the lowest settings but it didn't help at all, my game still stutters every 5 seconds whenever I go to Hollow Knight's room or after he does his battle cry. The weird thing about this is that I don't encounter this problem in the Lifeblood 1.3.1.5 release, my game runs smoothly on that version.

You'll not lose your save files normally, so it's fine If you're affraid you can always copy them on your desktop with a quick google search, they are located under AppData > LocalLow > Team Cherry > Hollow Knight To access the folder, type %appdata% in your search bar / execute on windows.

Run the installer as admin, then click on the box saying 'copy all contents from CODEX to installer directory'. Install the update with admin (tick that box again) in the folder you installed the game. THen play.

ps3 or xbox360 controller support doesnt work. also tried adding as non-steam game to steam and try booting the game in steam on big picture mode, still doesnt work. controller just doesnt do anything. when i go steam settings and check, it says it found the controller as "unregistered: ps3 controller" but still none of the buttons on it work.

Try turning your virus protection off before copying the crack. Sometimes it will have a false positive. If that doesn't work download IObit's Driver Booster and update your drivers c++ etc
Go to the files that you got from opening the rar and copy everything from Hollow.Knight.Godmaster/CODEX/hollow_knight_data/Plugins and paste them into the hollow_knight_data/Plugins folder in the files that you got from setup

add it to steam as a non-steam game, then run the game through Big Picture mode on steam. This was the only thing that works for me when i have gamepad trouble
In the past I have had difficulty getting my gamepads to connect unless I have them connected and working to my computer BEFORE I start up the game. If you yourself are still having troubles try that. As for me I will try that aswell.

I understand the problem, in the installation you have to check "copy contents of CODEX directory to Installdir", I did not check the first time, so the installer will copy the crack archives.

So I already have this game from this site, but now I'd like to have that new DLC, Godmaster and I'm not sure how to get it :/ When I downloaded it some time ago it had Hidden dreams, Lifeblood and Grimm troupe. Do I have to uninstall that version I already have and then install and crack this one, or does it work some other way? And is it possible to transfer my save file to it afterwards? Don't know about this one, but most installers that i get on this page have a checkmark saying "copy the contents of crack folders into the install folder".
When you uninstall there should be an option whether you want to delete all save and configration, but just to be safe you should copy paste the saved file to another storage just in case
Nobody responded the question. It was 12 days ago. Most save files are stored in a separate folder under My Documents. I remember testing Dark Souls long before buying it. When i got the game on steam i still had my old character lying there. Find the savedata file, make a backup copy for it, and if you can't find it when you buy it, then paste the backup to overwrite the original (and fresh) save file.

Is anyone getting a problem where controllers don't work? It's specifically this game that does it. It is a 3rd party controller but it it acts as an Xbox controller.
Death penalties give the feeling of having to be cautious. Take it or don't play it. It's inconvenient, but if you care enough about your currency, you won't die too often. Spending/banking your currency before any boss/tough place is a must. I love it when games give us a reason to not die, to care about the main character. Heroes don't die half-way through the story, and the MC of most games are heroes so... Ultimately, to get an idea of how tough the adventure was for the main character, you would have to play without dying... on your first attempt. Some games may have a lore-friendly resurrection concept, this is mostly done by adding a few convenient plot tricks with penalties for the MC. Anything less difficult would only be half the experience, since you are playing for the gameplay alone, ignoring the story and losing the immersion whenever you die and the game let you try again. Please, let me give you an example, for DS alone. Whenever someone stops playing without ending the game, (to me) it means that their characters were not the chosen one, he/she loses their mind and become another hollow until the user decides to try again, giving them a reminder of Humanity. I might be thinking way too deep into it, but that's my joy. Gameplay alone isn't enough for me.

A metroidvania with a death penalty is almost always shittier than without. This game and Shovel Knight are perfect examples. They may be critically acclaimed but the punishment for dying is quite stupid. In Shovel Knight you lose gold that could end up in unreachable places. Here you lose health. Oh what's that? You died trying to reach that area? Here's less health so it's even tougher next time. Have fun getting in a loop of playing just to get your health back, so you can maybe move forward. What happened to reverting back to the last save spot?

This won't address the issues you have with the game design but if you encounter a problematic spot in the game, just Tab out and back up your save folder.
but you can lose in those, maybe he should stick to walking simulators. concerning the death penalty, less health forces you to get better at the game which is always a plus in my opinion and, since you already got as far as the place you died in you have a good idea about what's coming next, less health is the mechanic to offset this knowledge. besides, this game isn't even that hard in the first place, I didn't even die often enough to care about the lost health, admittedly I didn't play through the whole game so maybe there's a difficulty spike down the road.
I play roguelites and platformers with the occasional shooter. Games that are much more difficult than this one, and I know a couple things about losing and getting better. I'm simply of the opinion that the punishment for death in this game is counter-productive to actually getting better. These kinds of games don't need to be held down by such a backwards system. So many aren't, but this one is.
After you get near the part where you die, you can fight your ghost and recover back your max SPIRIT POINTS. Your max health never goes down <_< Also, if you die on a boss, you will always be able to fight your ghost right before the boss appears, so you just keep trying and you do keep getting better (just like with the dark souls games)

Yeah, this is 1.2.1.1 version that contains a weird bug - it is not possible to open any chest, thus this release is literally broken and unplayble. The devs has rolled their game back to 1.2.1.0 to fix it. Any chances for uploading the working 1.2.1.0 version? Or do we have to wait for upcoming patches?
Lovely DLC, good music as always, and a not so much but still challenging boss. I wished I get to fight more than just two bosses, but it's free, so, there is just NOTHING to complain!
When you are in the folder where the setup is, open the CODEX folder, and copy the things into the Hollow Knight folder (where the game start exe and some other files are). If you have a problem finding that folder, just right click the game icon and click on "Open file location". Now just copy the CODEX content in that folder/location. For the future, it's similare for all the games that you can download here, some need to be cracked like how I described it, and some go without (only those who don't contain the crack folder)
I just copied the files in the codex and put them all on the hollow.knight.the.grimm.troupe folder and when I click start game and pick a new save file it would just automatically crash or say that the game's not responding anymore
Actually, Mark, whenever you unrar just a single part of a multi-part download, all the files get unpacked. The different parts are linked and work as a single, larger file. Unpacking several parts would only end up in you having the same files repeated several times.
I've used WinRar and 7zip all my life. Every single multi-part file that is decently made is automatically linked up so all the data from all the parts gets unpacked when unpacking a single part, because that single part has only a fragment of that data. So if you have a 5gb movie packed into five 1GB .rars, the actual files on a single part, isolated, are pretty much worthless, but when you have the five parts together, the 5gb movie "comes together", and unpacking any file will net you the whole movie, without having to individually unpack every file. I haven't checked this specific game, but every other multi-part game I've tried here had that basic fucking functionality of unpacking the whole thing once you have all the parts.

extracted it, mounted the iso, had it copy the crack/codex to the installation and then click on the exe which then results in the game has stopped to work.
(Just a guess though)
Is there a reason I am unable to use my gamepad with this game? Idk I tried using one months ago when I first downloaded buuuuut it wouldn't allow me to. I'm gonna try a few different things and then I'll come back.
In the meantime if anyone has any ideas please let me know.

4: In the Hollow Knight folder, you need to go to hollow_knight_Data -> Plugins. Then go back to the WINrar file, and open Crack -> hollow_knight_Data -> Plugins. Then copy all of the files in Plugins (which should be "steam.api.dll", "steam.api.ini", and "http://steam000.wow"), and paste them in the Plugins folder in the Hollow Knight file. If it asks for admin permission, allow it.
my game have full screen out of nowere today
before it was normal with the little black borders thing
i just started the game and it was full screen
there is nothing wrong with full screen, but my computer is weak and can't handle it
can someone help me to have it back with the little borders?

Most save files are stored in a separate folder under My Documents.
I remember testing Dark Souls long before buying it. When i got the game on steam i still had my old character lying there.
Find the savedata file, make a backup copy for it, and if you can't find it when you buy it, then paste the backup to overwrite the original (and fresh) save file.

Note: In the game, after you choose your language, it might give a black screen. If that's the case, right-click the desktop icon, and click "Run as Administrator". It should work after that.

Spending/banking your currency before any boss/tough place is a must.
I love it when games give us a reason to not die, to care about the main character.
Heroes don't die half-way through the story, and the MC of most games are heroes so...
Ultimately, to get an idea of how tough the adventure was for the main character, you would have to play without dying... on your first attempt.
Some games may have a lore-friendly resurrection concept, this is mostly done by adding a few convenient plot tricks with penalties for the MC.
Anything less difficult would only be half the experience, since you are playing for the gameplay alone, ignoring the story and losing the immersion whenever you die and the game let you try again.
Please, let me give you an example, for DS alone.
Whenever someone stops playing without ending the game, (to me) it means that their characters were not the chosen one, he/she loses their mind and become another hollow until the user decides to try again, giving them a reminder of Humanity.
I might be thinking way too deep into it, but that's my joy. Gameplay alone isn't enough for me.

Oh what's that? You died trying to reach that area? Here's less health so it's even tougher next time. Have fun getting in a loop of playing just to get your health back, so you can maybe move forward.
What happened to reverting back to the last save spot?
So many aren't, but this one is.
Also, if you die on a boss, you will always be able to fight your ghost right before the boss appears, so you just keep trying and you do keep getting better (just like with the dark souls games)
do we just need to copy this over the older one to keep the save files?

If you have a problem finding that folder, just right click the game icon and click on "Open file location". Now just copy the CODEX content in that folder/location.
For the future, it's similare for all the games that you can download here, some need to be cracked like how I described it, and some go without (only those who don't contain the crack folder)
I haven't checked this specific game, but every other multi-part game I've tried here had that basic fucking functionality of unpacking the whole thing once you have all the parts.
