Did you download an exe file? When opening the exe, did you get a rar file, or am I missing something? If the above is true, you downloaded an ad, make sure you get the correct file.

LAN dosen't work. 5.6 without the update work in solo 5.7 with update and crack work in solo. in the SmartSteamEmu.ini : #CommandLine = NOMODS became CommandLine = NOMODS And for : [SSEOverlay] DisableOverlay = 0 became : DisableOverlay = 1 Target must be Launcher.exe if you target AoK HD.exe, it dosen't work. And you have to execute _LAUNCHER.exe as Admin.
You need to set broadcast(client) ip in SmartSteamEmu. Kind of pain. Try to use SSEOverlay to make things easier. But Alternatively use Goldberg Emu LAN works(tested with VM still not tested with VPN). Achievement system doesn't work btw.
Maybe its windows 10 problem Ok try this... Go to the root folder of the game and open the smartsteamemu.ini search for enablelobbyfilter and change from 0 to 1 try this first if it didn't work try enableoverlay switch to 1 try these and post the results

This issue's already fixed with the new smartsteamemu.ini u have to replace it with the one in this post. If it didn't work try to set smartsteamemu.ini to read only in properties
I downloaded it from http://mega.co.nz and I did not receive any othe rar file that has the v5.7update in it and there is no folder named that. I also did not get the crack folder.
Hey guys, this is how I got to playing the game. First, I went to SmartSteamEmu.ini and deleted the "#" in "#CommandLine = NOMODS" (I found this in this comment section, by user named Leo, thanks for this) and saved the file. After doing this, the validating subscription wont appear anymore. I still got the lag though and the game crashed every 10 minutes. Unplayable. Then I tried to turn of the internet and everything worked! It is kind of annoing to turn of internet everytime if you want to play this game, but I cant find any other solution. Please, answer to this if you know something to fix the crashes without turning of the internet. Also I hope this helps :) Oh, and just so you know, I used the crack from the 5.7 uptade before editing SmartSteamEmu.ini. EDIT: After few days playing without internet, I tried to play with it. From that moment on I didnt have a single crash even with the internet turned on. Even if I was playing for hours. Maybe it fixed itself? Idk. Anyway... guess I found solution myself :)

Now what u want to do is...right click the Launcher.exe file and go to properties....go to compatibility>and 'check' Run this program as Administrator.....after that go to Security Tab at the top>click 'Edit'>Under Group or user names...select your PC's name and 'check' on Full Control at the bottom...>click apply...that's it hopefully it doesn't crashes for u anymore...Have Fun...

I get this message when applying the update to 5.7 trying to start it with Launcher.exe: "Unable to find steam_appid.txt and AppId= 0, please specify the value for AppId in the SmartSteamEmu.ini or game will fail to launch" . When I try to do that I can only change the value off AppId in text file (notepad) of SmartSteamEmu and it wont apply to the actual configuration file. Did anyone have a similiar problem with the update and how can possibly revert it to 5.6.1 if it can't be played?
Found a way to stop lagging in main menu. I'll test single and multiplayer modes and tell. I just changed SmartSteamEmu.ini file as said in other comments. I've also changed all .dll files with the .dll of a previous cracked version of AgeOfEmpire2 downloaded on another website. If it works in game i'll try to help you more precisely.

Didnt work. If I just right click the_LAUNCHER.exe then left click the open button int the cascading display it will show: File Error 12. If I run _LAUNCHER.exe as administrator it will enter a whitescreen that will hang in there for few seconds and it wont be able to enter the game and it will just return me to windows screen.
Same problem here but after some seconds the game passes the white screen and I can play for some time. After a random duration (sometimes 4-5 minutes, sometimes after 20 minutes) during gameplay the game hangs and only music is playing.

I managed to start the game by following these steps (on windows 10 x64)
extract game to drive
install visual redist 2010 x86 & x64
install Dirext X Jun 2010 Redist
launch game by launching _LAUNCHER.exe
press control + c on validating subscription screen (another way - to prevent this, search comments below for editing SmartSteamEmu.ini) game launches, but it is buggy (audio loops and frame skips) and crashes after 5 minutes of play - with the error "age of empires ii hd has stopped working"
Your answer is literally in the post right below you. Just extract the files and you are good to go. No installation required. To play the game, click "_Laucher.exe". At the registering mods screen, you can press "Ctrl+C" to skip on to the game. I would suggest you to kindly wait till the OP updates the files. As of now, there is something wrong that causes severe lags or unforeseen crashes as one proceeds to play the game.

i discovered the fix, you have to go to the file "SmartSteamEmu.ini" and search for the line "#CommandLine = NOMODS" then just delete the "#" save the file and your done, no need to crack the game Edit: open the game through the file "_LAUNCHER.exe"
I tried your fix. Sure enough, I am able to launch into the game now without the need for "Ctrl+C" (there was no registering mods screen). However, the audio starts looping at the main menu. The game lags too much just as before.

I modified a few dll files that are related to network. The way i changed them made it have copy protection for a reason. I'll tell you if i found a way around.

I know you posted this a while ago but that error literally means that this file is missing. In order to get it, you have to download it by searching "msvcr100.dll" in google. You will surely find a dll files page where you can download the missing file either for a x32 or x64 computer. When you have the file, you just have to extract using an app like Winrar and paste a new file with similar (maybe even the same) name in the game directory
