(way late reply, i know)
the archive may be corrupt besides (had to fix with winrar)
but you're right, it's a lame .mdf (disc image)
need to mount the .mds (easily in win8 or 10, use daemon or some similar otherwise)
then install as if a physical disc
and then probably need to set compatibility to xp for the .exe
(i avoid installing these oldies on this pc, but it does work fine in actual winxp 😉)
