This needs an update. I notice a year on, the dev talked about a demo being high priority, but still no demo. so this is our demo, would be nice to have a current version as a demo.

First of all, thank you for spreading the word. It's very likely that there are people that only find out about Holodance because they're browsing "one of these sites" and see it. We need exposure, and I'm sincerely grateful for any kind of visibility we get.
That said: Using a cracked version of Holodance will never give you the experience you have when buying the game on Steam. We work on this game full time and push out releases every one or two weeks. Sometimes a release takes a little longer, sometimes a little less. With each new release, there are bugs fixed and new features added. At the time of this writing, we're already at 0.6.0 and you can check the News section to see what you're missing when still playing 0.5.8:
Using a cracked version will have you run into bugs that don't exist in the game on Steam anymore, and you'll be missing features you would already get on Steam. When buying the game here, you don't have to worry about updating - you get incremental updates each time you open up Steam, so instead of having to download the full 6+ GB each time, you only download what has changed since the last update. It's easy, it's comfortable, you always get the best possible experience with the game. And of course, there's no risk you'll infect your computer with a Virus (which obviously cannot be guaranteed for cracked / pirated versions).
Finally, we have currently sold about 1800 units of the game. This may seem like a lot but really, we need to sell more than 10 times as many units to even break even. And quite a bit more to get into a sustainable profit zone. So every single sale counts for us. Simply put: We can only stay in business and continue building games if enough people buy those games.
So if you like this game, you should definitely buy it right here instead of freeriding on other people's hard work.

wow a dev comment on IGG? And also one that made me purchase the game? Almost unheard of but I love games like this and osu and you seem like a super chill dude so I don't wanna just steal this game from you.

Sorry, I missed your comment so I reply like ... um ... 5 months ago ;-) Disqus isn't my best friend, it seems. But anyways, thanks for buying Holodance and I hope you still enjoy the game!?

Sorry to tell you this but I (and most people in general) avoid anything
early access like the plague, especially if it's from an unknown
company. Simply because of the sheer number of these games that never
get finished and left in their bug ridden half-assed states either
because the developers get bored of the project or are content with the
money they get from the early acces or whichever other reason one can
think up. I see an early access game that looks interesting, I come here
instead of wasting money on something I have no guarantee will ever get
finished. You want attention, bring back the "free demo" model and hope
your game looks interesting enough for people to want to try it.

That's definitely an understandable perspective. So far, I haven't had trouble with Early Access titles myself but it seems there was quite a bit of abuse ... or maybe just projects where things went wrong.
It's good you mention "free demo" - this is something fairly high on our list. We already have a mode in the game we call "party mode" that basically takes you through a kind of demo (it's actually what we have used for events like Gamescom) and the upcoming demo will simply lock you into one of those presets which should give you a fairly good idea of the game.
One thing I'm not quite sure about is how to handle the osu! support in the demo. Obviously, different people will want to try different songs. One possible solution might be letting you play any three osu! beatmaps and then lock the game down to these three.
