Put up yet another request, and we have a third patch on steam now anyways.

Looks like there is now a second patch on steam (33.2), this download is still 33.0. I requested the update and will give another update if that fixes the major bugs.

Unfortunately idk why IGG marked the game as uploaded on the 30th when all the files are from the 27th, so I think they ignored my request since it's already on uploads for today. Hopefully tomorrow.

The amount of time I spent fighting my ships breaking from no power or some other bug nearly rivals my time spent just playing the game lol.

Game is actually feeling very comfy to me now on 33.3.1. I have passed 40 hours played, still mining all of Europa, pretty chill with my setup of ships having missiles and backup weapons to fend off the infinite enemies (if I go trade for 200k though I could supposedly build a gun to kill the mothership). Water drain was halved AND colonist requirement on hangars was halved, making it way easier to use multiple mining ships and not zero your water reserve now. The limited water asteroids still sucks, but I still gained over 20k water from the two roids in Europa and still have 14k left. Running total of around 175 colonists and water drain is only 2/hr each.

The main bugs that still are issues are:

  • Ships losing energy production randomly, rare now (fixed on reload, or caused by send/receiving energy to a docked craft -- right click nodes with send energy on and disable it. Any time you split a node off an existing ship send energy will turn on at the node it came off of.)
  • Engineers with construction cost down prevent construction from finishing, either disable them during building or save before you train engineers to make sure they don't start with T1 cost down.
  • Weapons still hit your own crafts at bad angles to enemies, mainly missiles (seems to do 1 dmg now instead of full dmg it was before).

You only need a small gunship with a few plasma (commander maybe +1 small assist) park it infront of the mothership at 1000m and just kill it , it takes a while but it cant do jack about it. Meanwhile you must make sure you have a equal ship at loqui base to defend it.

When I originally was told I could dismantle the station I didn't have ownership of it or anything so I just left it to get destroyed lol. The only objective I got was to leave to Jupiter gate, which I will do soon. Had only 2 CTD in ~7hrs so not bad at all when it loses me nothing with the autosave frequency. My bigger concern was the bugs that reloading won't fix which I haven't encountered any of in 33.3.1.

Didn't know you could blast the mothership without big guns though, that's silly.

To any who come after my first comment: I really do love this game and what it can become after they fix the bugs but HOLY mother of god I have never seen such rampant bugs that all force you to reload immediately as your ships will become semi or permanently bricked. It really needs the major ones addressed before I will recommend this to anyone. Thanks to IGG for letting me test these early access games, this is unacceptable for release quality.

Bugs as I've encountered them:

  • Ships VERY often temporarily bug and just stop producing energy. Every ship battery will drain and then power fails. This one fixes on reloading the game, you still lose all power you had in batteries which can be bad.

  • One ship gained infinite energy, all energy values stopped responding, everything is powered even after removing all power production. Could not fix this ship whether docking, splitting and rejoining, it's just bugged forever. I still have it docked in the Panonia and it functions with no power modules. But nothing built that requires crew will ever function, only pre-existing modules. Modules split off this ship function normally, re-merging both ways doesn't change the infinite energy vessel.

  • Ships power values in general don't show the real status, a large vessel with many factories and power generation will not show the true +/- values on energy at all, leading to massive confusion when everything just stops working and the ship shows +0/-0.

  • Mass drivers can hit themselves when firing, with nothing in front of them I have seen some just have every other shot explode at point blank damaging itself. They can also hit other modules on the same ship with some placements.

  • An even worse position seems to be putting a mass driver on top of T3 solar, which appears to be a good spot, but nearly 100% of the shots hit itself and they will self-destruct immediately.

  • Perhaps a bug, people mention issues getting drills to work without scanning. You can attach a drill to an asteroid then save and reload then click the drill and hit engage to force mining an unscanned asteroid.

  • Removing parts storage modules or having them destroyed doesn't seem to move the resources to another free storage module. (This may be normal behavior, I never noticed metals being deleted when I rearranged metal storages.) Resulting in often losing some of the parts for disassembled modules and leaving you with a bunch of unusable non full sets of parts.

  • You can transfer crew around in docked ships in the Panonia, but all transferred crew pretty much end up being deleted. Appears to be a way you can transfer officers, but only ended up deleting them (which you may want sometimes with no other way to remove them.)

  • Engineering officer should be one of the best, but causes numerous terrible bugs. If you have any points rolled into construction cost decrease, you cannot build at all, objects will show they have had all materials delivered but the bar will never fill or finish. Deactivating the officer will let construction complete.

  • Same officer with maxed reduced energy consumption seems to just exacerbate the existing energy bugs with ships unfortunately as well. I have not tried energy storage for fear of that bricking batteries completely.

  • Now after leveling the Engineering officer further to +30% reduced energy usage, if I enable him my power usage does show it goes from -30% to -60% and batteries will rapidly fill, but all production on refineries, crew quarters, labs, etc will immediately stop. No issues reported, power increases, but all production stops.

  • Recruited officers generally have only 4 perks of a longer possible list, but as you train them more perks will populate this list allowing an officer with upwards of ten skills.

If you want to play despite all of that or after the bugs are worked on, my tips below:

If you are wondering how in the world you can rename a ship:

Hover over the top right of the overview panel just left of the yellow marks, an invisible EXPAND button shows up, clicking this will let you hover objects and hit the button to rename. It's a bit wild. Then you can type to rename that ship and you must hit the button once again to finalize, hitting enter appears to rename but it will revert after.

24 hours played, the tutorials went fine for me, and I mined the first campaign system nearly to completion of all valuables until my water was nearly gone before moving to the second system. Nearly all research done and near max level.

You must be careful not to scale up too much with colonists as water is a finite resource you must maintain for your fleet, and for whatever reason Ice asteroids are the rarest. When you first capture the crew quarters of the abandoned refinery it will have around 200 colonists you should immediately sell off as you can train more form crew quarters as needed. (Cost 1k to hire, 1.2k to sell). Inactive crew still drain water and you need to stretch it out.

You can persist in the first sector a long time by managing your water and buying the 5000+ the starting station has in stock as well, but then you must still continue being careful. The second system has few Ice asteroids again, and enemies that infinitely attack you and you need T2 weapons to defend yourself, which require crew... Beams need 4 crew, Mass drivers need 1 crew and drain your iron. If I went to the second system without totally overpreparing likely would've been game over.

Using large drills is important as you seem to get ONLY the resource type of the patch you attach to, getting you more in total of the desired resource from the asteroid than it appears to contain when scanned. The ice asteroids are only something like 25% Ice, but with drills on the ice patches you should get 100% Ice. They also save you from having to spam hangars to pick up resources which means way more crew and water drain.

It is also silly that hangars require 1 crew to run the hangar and 1 crew to fly a ship. Medium require 3 crew to run the hangar and then 3 crew for the 3 ships. The commander vessel has special hangars that only need 1+3 at least, but spamming hangars is inefficient.

You can rebuild your refinery ship into a 5 node wide, 3 node tall, 6 node long vessel crammed with everything you need and get it to fit into the docking port diagonally. This is great if you don't want to be limited by super tiny ships or leave massive ships behind in old sectors.

You can also dock as many ships as you want right now to the hangarship, despite the tooltip claiming you can only dock 3 ships, if this gets patched out I will be sad but at least there are workarounds and you can make multiple trips or disassemble things into parts to rebuild later.

I still think it is worth playing right now if you enjoy a slower, heavier, mining focused space game. But as above you can see there are a lot of bugs lol. Most can be side-stepped by reloading, but the ships giving you energy issues is an annoyance you'll see regularly. No reason not to give it a try though, you can get a good feel for it in the tutorials (which take a while, mainly the second tutorial).

This game is definitely going to be the next one I buy. I remember a long while ago I saw a preview for this and Era One, this is the game I wanted to play not Era One. No hate for Era One but it's basically an overcomplicated Homeworld (and I found the balancing for combat to be very strange). Here you have a long progression space building game.

The game is a beauty, runs fantastically well, not even needing DLSS to run on max settings at 2k with only a 4060ti. The tutorials are exceptionally clean, as well as the UI and controls. I saw some people laughably complaining that you must manage complex flight controls (but it's a space game?) though you have autopilot options to send ships where you need with no manual flight input required. Though, you will want to manually control your ships to easily change alignment yourself, and it is easy and intuitive. You have full control over every system, thruster control and such so that you can enjoy actual newtonian space flight, you do not lose momentum unless you fire thrusters to stop.

I already had to write this comment just after finishing the tutorials, the game is great if you enjoy long-form progression and building games as well as space sims. Management, Station Building (And ships/stations are built from the same stuff - it is very similar to Era One in appearance here), Production, Research, Combat. The full suite.

Aside from my bug post above, I will add an addendum that the performance drops a lot as you build multiple large crafts and have way too many objects loaded into your active game. Lots of resource transfers, mined chunks, etc will slow down more and more. I had the game running as low as 10 fps a lot of the time, especially if you also move large ships (shit load of little thrusters and all physics simulated).

You can at least reload your save to remove tracking on all the little chunks in the distance (loaded game only shows objects in close proximity of your ships and cleans long distance objects from list). Overall not a huge issue as the game plays quite slow at times as you wait for, well, mining.

There is also a severe memory leak that for me only crashed the game after a many hour session as gangplan posted (reached 20gb ram usage after 6+hrs), and no real issue with that as the autosaves are constant.

The steam discussions mention that the 33.2 update fixed the memory leak but instead resulted in much worse performance, will find out when we get the update here.

Thanx this update is really direly needed and its extreme progress.

Tons of fixes to quests, officer bug fix, etc. etc.

And performance has also gotten a boost, not that it was too bad to begin with but noteably smoother now, plus sound fx for weapons etc.

update: Unfortunatly Officer Skill Progression is still bugged
The Enginer and the Tactical officer wont be able to level to T3
because they keep resetting their skills when reaching 100% of T2.

How the F do you get to lalande (campaign)
i built all Solarstations and didnt get any tech for the T2 Gate
i can build a fu.. T1 gate at the red mist and go to Alpha Centauri
which is just a trap level with endless waves and no quests.

In fact i havent received any new objectives for ages now. All i had are finished and not bugged afaik.

So what? Who cares? If you can spot it in-game its obviously bad or you are biased. Stop asking if anything is AI generated in games. It is OK

Dunno if you're ignorant or just lack human empathy, but no, it's not okay. You and people like you can pretend to be in the majority all you like, it doesn't change the fact that most people understand how scummy this is.

This has nothing to do with 99.99% of the game. They have around 20 character images in the game. The virtue signaling of anti-AI is really useless when there is no actual victim.

If there's truly almost no LLM content in the game, then it would be trivial for them to replace it. And you can pretend there's no victim all you like, saying a thing doesn't make it true.

Welcome to existence.

Trust me, you'll hate it even more when QC is standardized by establishment.

Competition is dead, and friendly competition is even deader. The golden age is over, and Fibonacci's spiral into the eternal depths of the known unknown brings us tidings of turd infused shit-ness and excuses galore.

There's a storm on the horizon- the last place your attention should be pegged is to cheap, effortless entertainment... UNLESS of course, you're like me- craving for the void and so absolutely tired of our species, and the circumstances of existence, that there's nothing really left for you to do except sit around and wait to die. :)
