I agree. I didn't know about this dark period in Chinese history, though many parts of the World including Europe (historical article) and North America (eg. - The Donner party incident) have each had their horrific accounts of cannibalism during extreme times of food shortages. This VN attempts to re-create, with its wonderfully detailed illustrations, moving background soundtrack and rich storyline, the events during this difficult period and how people managed to survive with or without having to succumb to such a desperate process, so that player can develop an idea, first-hand, of what it was like to have gone through such an difficult experience (Of course, that is but one of the themes of this game which includes revenge, involuntary servitude and more).

Here's another interesting thing - Not to be a little OCD but it seems that Steam displays the languages supported in the Language Support notification in different order according to the region where a Steam user may be located. When I visited the Steam page for this game, I noticed that the Japanese language was listed last rather than second. It's very curious as to why Steam would do that.

While it's true that various parts of the world have faced periods of extreme hardship and even instances of cannibalism during times of food scarcity, it's important to approach the depiction of such events with caution and sensitivity. While this visual novel may aim to recreate historical events, there's a risk of sensationalizing or romanticizing the suffering of real people. Additionally, presenting cannibalism as a theme in a game could be seen as gratuitous or exploitative. It's crucial to remember the ethical responsibilities involved in representing historical tragedies, especially when they involve real human suffering. Furthermore, the observation about the order of language support on Steam may simply be a result of regional variations in user preferences and market demand, rather than a deliberate decision by the platform.

It probably has to do with language order preference. I change mine around sometimes from English and Japanese first.
