@For newbie: Don't forget crack before launching the game (otherwise you will get the "no license" error). By doing one of the following:

make sure to turn of real time protection in windows defender and/or your antivirus. also make sure to unblock the iso in its properties before extraction /installation
DS4 windows is what ive used for games that dont support native, or steam but steam doesnt do all the stuff DS4W does. (dual shock 4 windows) which works for alot of controllers, not sure what your using up there. but its small enough to give a shot and easy enough to setup. worst case, it sees the controller, but you have to map the keybinds to the controller using the software.
This error is due of the trying to play with a CPU which does NOT support AVX2 instruction set. might be patched. but if it's not and you have this error you won't be able to play unless you buy a new CPU.
server CPUs and some other laptop CPU cut prices by disabling features like AVX xd sadly you need to be careful when buying. AMD usually does not do this kind of things is more on the Intel side.
LOL, I updated the game into v1.0.4 without properly reading the guide, and it scared the crap out of me when the game unable to detect my old save file. Luckily, I instantly close the game and went online to search for a guide that's already available in the update folder (facepalm), I'm afraid that the game autosave is going to overwrite my old save data.
To load old data, it requires some hex editing on the SystemData.dat and SaveData1.dat files, which are located in C:/Users/%UserProfile%/AppData/Local/GBFR/Saved/SaveGames. For hex editing software: https://mh-nexus.de/en/downloads.php?product=HxD20
Backup your save data, make a copy of a SaveGames folder.
Update the game to v1.0.4 and run it once, the game will say that it can't find your save data, and then you close the game. (Thanks to @XRRoy for mentioning this missing step)
Open file SystemData.dat using a hex editor software and change the offset base from hex to dec, on the offset 00000000 you need to copy the numbers on the bytes(blue number beside offset) 00 until 07
Open file SaveData1.dat with the same hex editor software, paste the numbers that you've copied onto offset 00000000 bytes 04 until 11 and save it.
The one who created the guide is @xChidori. I only arrange the steps using my own screenshots for easier for people to understand, the guider did provide steps and screenshot, but it's kinda difficult for me to understand since I have 0 knowledge on the hex editor thingy. He did mention something about steamid, but I don't know the purpose of changing it, so I'll be skipping that step.
There's one thing to add: You will need to run the patched game once for it to generate the new SystemData.dat file, so you can copy the new hex strings into your old save.
To do this, run the game after you apply 1.0.4 patch, then do the usual 1st-time setup when it asks you; close the game once you reach title screen, and you will have a fresh SystemData.dat file ready.
Because the update oddly recreates a new id. So you have to delete the old system data, and let the game recreate it. Only after that you have to open the new system data with an hex editor, set value to Dec(decimal) and copy from 0 to 7. Close system data, Than open with hex editor the savedata, set value Dec and paste the previous copied overwriting from 4 to 11. Save and close savedata. Now you can load the old save
After doing some research, it seems like dozen of people on steam, (some with potato rigs, others with modern ones) are all having the same crashes/failure to launch issue, and it seems like one solution is to disable e cores in BiOS.
I don't use my computer just to game so I'm not going through the trouble of doing this, but that truly seems like the only solution for now.
Looks like this game truly had a nightmare development,and there are still many issues that need fixed, so its probably not your PCs fault. Hopefully they fix this soon
How to play online with other players, this method only allows you to connect with other crack/pirate users, you will not be able to connect with players who bought the game. WARNINGthe online-fix file is detected by Windows firewall for virus and some of them will be auto deleted, I don't know if it's a false alarm or not, so proceed at your own risk.WARNING
Add the game folder into the exclusions list in the Windows Firewall, this should prevent the firewall from deleting the files. If you're confused or using a different antivirus, just google the method for it.
Place the GFR_Fix_Repair_Steam_Generic.zip file into the game folder and extract here, it should look like this.
Now to play the game you're required to launch Steam before launching the game, or it will give you an error message preventing the game from opening, if you're planning to play offline just change the steam into offline mode. (to undo back into previous offline game without need for steam is to copy and paste steam_api64.dll file from the update v1.0.4 patch)
After accept all the network notification that Windows and the game is asking, you should be able to see other online session that's available in the game. I don't know if this has a region lock or not.
It means that the game is unable to launch due to missing a file OnlineFix64.dll. It probably gets delete by an antivirus when you extract GFR_Fix_Repair_Steam_Generic file.
You need to make an exclusion in the antivirus firewall so that it wouldn't auto delete it, you need to do step 2.
Yeah it was just the GFR_Fix_Repair_Steam_Onlinefix file. Looks like even though it was added as an exception windows be windows and decided it was not an exception and placed it under house arrest.

Anyone who has a problem with a black screen in the game even after cracking it, try disabling HAGS on Windows (especially if it's on 11) and restarting the PC worked for me

Hi, does anyone know any method to modify the save file to add items? I am not willing to jump through hoops to play online, and this game gatekeep certain items behind online content.

maybe I just don't have patience for JRPGs anymore, but I just can't play this game. Battle system seems fun but very easy. press LB to avoid all damage X to hit the HP sponge enemy Y to hit it harder. Hit basic enemy 20 times to kill it now do it with the other 5.

The save file is bind to your Steam ID so, if you edit the numbers in force_steamid.txt file into your Steam account ID, and open the game once to generate SystemData.dat file with your Steam ID then do some hex edit to SaveData1.dat file, the bought game should be able to load your pirate save data.
I don't know if I'm correct or not, but for this part, you can pretty much skip it, since it doesn't give any benefit to crack/pirate user.
I think the Steam ID thingy is required only when you're planning to migrate your crack save data into a legit bought game. The save data is bind to the Steam ID, so you want to generate a new SystemData.dat with your account Steam ID and edit it to the save data, now the legit bought game can recognize the save is matched with your steam account ID and you will be able to load into the bought game.
i did it, just the same way as your guide above, but different abit so i have offline save after i use steamfix my game save will reset but it create a new SystemData.Dat i use the online save hex code from 00 to 07 just like you did then replace it to offline save 00 to 07 and same with SaveData1 or SaveData2 hex 04 to 11 then i use the offline save i just edited replace the online save. now i can continue playing online using offline save.
