from the steam forum thread "Wipe character..."

dev Craterman: "The game follows the seasonal format that is typical of many ARPGs. While some large games also offer standard leagues allowing characters to persist indefinitely, it's common for players to begin anew each season.
While we plan to introduce a classic mode for character permanence, allowing a more relaxed pace without competition, it remains in our backlog due to resource constraints and player preferences. The simple truth is that most ARPG players love seasons and prefer them (We do, however, understand that it's not ALL).

This is a very long debate, and much bigger than dwarven realms I suggest reading more about it, and giving it a chance."

that pretty much confirms it's an online multiplayer game. at least until they change it by implementing a persistent offline mode.

Clearly ARPGs are not for you. There are plenty of other genres for you to enjoy. You can claim it is bad game design all you want, but it is standard for the genre. A system and genre many people play and enjoy. Bitching about it here doesn't do anything, especially not in so many comments.

from the forum on steam:

Hype said "Hey Nefar, thanks for the kind words. Unfortunately yes, right now expect wipes at end of the seasons. We are planning to build a constant mode where characters persist however the game is in such early access, and we're making dramatic changes to the meta, we will continue wipes for the foreseeable future."

why do this? seriously, WHY THE F do game devs do this and think it's good game design?

i'm gonna keep playing but now i know that at a certain point i will have completely wasted the time and effort.

oh yeah, i've played a random jrpg for 100 hours. time to throw away the save file and start all over again.

THAT is the logic in such game design!

just cleared rupture 15 and was going to see if there was a guide on steam showing how many more features i can unlock and i see the above message in a thread titled "Wipe character...".

now i'm pissed because now i know this is one of those shitty "seasonal" games that are 100% pointless to even attempt to play because all your hard work is going to just be thrown out the window for NOTHING whenever the current "season" ends.

this is, hands down, one of THE worst game designs EVER conceived!

i don't know if i want to keep playing now cause of this. what is the POINT?!

got my answer to my previous comment from last night.

they bumped my leader board spot back down to slot 9 (listing it as lvl 605 instead of 765), labeled it as "Pirate" (i see a number of other spots listed as pirate too), and back out on the title screen they have the season info switched to:

last season winners:

CH347ING
IS
B4D

"current season ends in 8 days"

so, i can still keep playing and make a new character if i want but the leader board is blocked. and making a new character doesn't fix it.

so, yes...the game itself IS single player but as far as the tracking goes, it IS also a multiplayer game with a connection to a server.

and i'm gonna go ahead and count it as a multiplayer game because, like other "seasonal" games, they sometimes offer a reward for the top 3 winners of each season in the form of cosmetics.

that's not single player game design.

sooo...got bored of the grind and well...for me, boredom tends to lead to cheating...via cheat engine...

and i decided to just give myself a billion of the experience stone (the normal small ones, not the large ones) and now i'm just curious of a few things.

  1. how high lvl will this get me while my anvil churns out a F ton of attack/armor stones for the exp.

  2. if this will get me banned off the leader board (yeah, technically this actually is a multiplayer game by virtue of that things presence).

  3. if i do get banned...will it prevent me from playing this game outright? if THIS point proves to be a correct assumption then you've uploaded an online multiplayer game, igg, and i have done the thing i oppose when it comes to cheating and hacking in video games...cheating in a multiplayer game.

but ALSO it will show that the game is incorrectly labeled as single player (again, technically due to the leader board) on steam.

we shall see...bout to dump the rest of my crystals cause this shit's getting slow... i will add the TNL (till next level) exp amount after that pile of crystals slows to a crawl...

lvl 728...past 600, the exp scaling gets insanely high. there is no way those 2 at lvl 649 and 650 on the leader board got there legit. uh uh, no way.

.....ok, with the full stack dumped... exp bonus stats is at 10,000,261.719%...

some of the exp i'm getting is negative...so...overflow...

748...tnl is 100,766,254,441...

lvl 765, gonna stop there... tnl is 192,918,800,811.

current season ends in a few days i think...so...yeah...we'll see if i get banned and can no longer play once that ends. i'm curious to see the results of this.

also, past a certain point, a bunch of values overflow...like hp and damage...not entirely sure how the math of it all is affected by that but 765 in the current seasonal design is 100% undoable imo.

ok...i'm sticking to my earlier comments as opinion regarding the seasonal game design but...after playing it some more, i've decided to stick with it despite that.

cause i actually don't see anything bad about it aside from that.

there's more point to playing GACHA games than there is a seasonal WIPE game!

because the gacha game doesn't flush all your progress down the drain every so often!

that miniBONG game i requested is now superior to dwarven realms simply due to the fact it's not a seasonal WIPE game. ANY game is now superior to dwarven realms due to that.
