I even remember the old versions where batteries work like they have hundreds of swappable mini batteries inside them. You seem to be very confident that you're right for someone who doesn't even play the game
It has always been free. The paid version on Steam is completely optional as a way of supporting the devs.
I was just pointing out to nekaz the information that I saw posted on this game's Steam page and suggesting to him that he re-check his information. I was not attacking nekaz's or anyone else's personal character, unlike how you attacked mine, SoulStorm.
It's okay to be passionate about a game but when passion devolves into fanaticism (See the photos below of the rival fanatical Soccer/Football fans fighting each other) then it's a problem. There was no need for you to react the way that you did towards me just because I was pointing out to nekaz that there's a retail Steam version of this game available!
I'm not going to say that I was right or wrong but the $19.99USD retail sticker price posted on Steam that must be paid in order to enable a download of the game from one of their servers is an undeniable fact whether 100% of the proceeds go towards supporting the devs OR only some of the proceeds go towards supporting the devs while another percentage enriches Steam simultaneously. It should also be understandable that anyone who is not familiar with the history of this game and sees the price posted on Steam would come to conclusion that the version of the game on Steam is a retail version. Additionally, I already believe the other members here, on face value, who have said that this is a freely downloadable game [Possibly from the dev's site, outside of Steam]. However, it's just not free if you try to download the retail version from Steam! So I can say with confidence that in this case, everyone is "right" and nobody is wrong.
Anyway, the point that I was trying to get across was that IGG-Games.com [admin] was not attempting to deceive anyone here by trying to pass off a freely downloadable game as a commercial one which a few members in this game page appear to believe is the case. Perhaps like me, IGG-Games.com [admin] was also not aware that there was a free version of this game that is simultaneously available outside of Steam. If you look carefully at the Game Request page, you can see from time to time that he flat out rejects requests for freely downloadable games from Steam [Or any other online store, should such a request be posted], so therefore, the version listed here is the bonafide, retail Steam version.
Oh man, when energy used to be a discrete lightning bolt charge item and you literally had to reload your batteries, I remember those days! Not a fan of the UPS/Battery split, though, and how hard it was to swap it, in the game.
Sorry Rob, but while technically correct that it is for sale, the free version is completely free and has the same content. As others have said, the steam version is just an optional way to support the developers.
ye like other comments said on their github when you google it you can download the free version which is identical to the steam version and mod it perfectly fine.

This makes no sense. There are 7-10 updates per day happening for Experimental. Just download CDDA Catapult Launcher or any other launcher and it will download and maintain the game for you.
Do not download this. Google "CDDA Catapult launcher". The launcher checks for updates each time you start. Given multiple updates per day on the experimental build, it is the way to go. Also this is a free game
