English not supported. Perhaps sometime in the future the dev can start with an English Interface translation (Easiest and least expensive). If a fan base develops and increases, perhaps English Subtitles can be added (Most difficult and most expensive). See my explanation about translation.

If you're actually Japanese then you should be able to read the Chinese text as Kanji (Chinese characters) are a part of the Japanese language along with Hiragana and Katakana.

It doesn't quite work like that.

A Japanese person might be able to guess as to the meaning of a kanji character, but likely won't understand it for two reasons. 1) The pronunciation will likely be different, and the grammar is completely different. There are also a lot of kanji characters that mean the opposite of what they mean in Chinese.

It depends upon the Japanese person in question. If the person is well educated, as many modern Japanese are (In Japan, students are required to learn multiple foreign languages with Chinese being one of the top electives) then he or she will be able read and understand the true meaning of the Kanji characters within their context. Even older Japanese people may be well versed in Kanji as it facilitates trade and the sharing of information between China and Japan.

It really depends upon the level of education of a person. Maybe a poor farmer in the more rural parts of Japan might not have been afforded the opportunity to learn Kanji unlike the people living in the highly industrialized, urban areas like Tokyo, Osaka or Kyoto.

Maybe the dev has plans in the far future for translating this VN into English or it may just be a marketing gimmick to attract Asians (Mostly the youth) in Japan and China who know at least a little bit of English, to purchase this game. The younger generation in both countries like to mix English with Japanese or Chinese in their media like songs, videos, toys (Think plastic model kits of mecha) and video games. Let's hope its for the former rather than for the latter reason.

Also, there may be some things that we living in the West do not understand about the East. For example, the Japanese love their mayonnaise (Kewpie is the most famous brand there) so much that they've made it into an ice cream flavor!

Not unusual enough for you? Then try ramen flavored iced cream with chives, shrimp, and other ramen soup ingredients!
