The "standalone" game of VoC is quite decent. The story is more of a sub-story compared to the previous two VoCs, which are more in-depth. The difficulty curve of the Beasts of Burden is more like, "vertical." It's kind of easy, like the other VoC games. In this one, the final boss is kind of impossible if you stray from a specific strategy, unless you do some weird cheesing.

This game does feature new mechanics, and it does a decent job of adding new things to the already existing gameplay. Although the combat is quite repetitive, just like the other two games.

The story is decent, and it felt odd when I finished the game because there's weird twists and turns.

The one thing that this franchise never fails at is the art style, voice acting, and the music.

Overall, this game is nice. But there are still problems that persist throughout the VoC games. Depending on how you perceive this standalone, it could be one of the best out of the series or the worst, or in between the two other games.

Not to sound ungrateful or anything, but is there any specific reason why the third game in the series is cracked whereas the second game, The Forsaken Maiden, was not?

I'm guessing you wrote this comment before The Forsaken Maiden was up, correct?

It's very good and it has a collaboration with NieR Re[in]carnation.
