Okay so not really my kind of game, but I found some stuff from driving around. If you open your map, you will see another island just north of you starting position. There is a bridge leading to it, go over the bridge and look to the left side, you may see a little hut in the distance, go over there and you can loot some free stuff inside the hut. You can find a pickaxe there and on that same island are some rocks to farm.
