I wonder what happened to him and his counterpart, "A:" (I think that guy, if it wasn't "C:" in disguise, had a floppy drive as an avatar). It's too bad that they disappeared. Oh, well. From what I recall, A: was more about moderating the site while C: wanted to put up warnings about games being VR exclusive/Early Access/non-English exclusives. Might be misremembering, though.
What happened is that one point he tried to make fun of the massive influx of lewd games with the 'Smeagol's Precious' meme, and some people took offense to that to the point of trolling him with mock accounts. He left sometime afterwards - might be a coincidence, might be not.
Have to say I do miss him and some of the old members around. Apart from the occasional politics (fortunately mostly limited to political games) this is a pretty chill site.

If you've really been here for more than a year then you would have seen racist comments against the jewish, blacks and asians as well as comments against gays and others who, in the view of a few narrow-minded people, "Do not fit the norm". The moderators here try their best to remove such negative comments ASAP whenever detected but unfortunately, they can't detect all of them given their other pressing responsibilities with maintaining this site. 😐
It's not that puzzling. FastComments doesn't always work for me. I don't always get verification e-mails.
Early on, if you didn't get that e-mail your comment would vanish into the ether. On those occasions I used a diferent account with an alt e-mail. Nowadays your comment just eventually shows up even if you don't get the e-mail.
In my opinion it is mostly limited to political games, where all sorts of ideologies start duking it out in the comments. I used to check those games out back in the day, not so much anymore.
The only case I can think of that got political at a harmless game was War For The West, which while admittedly a great game (quite possibly the best game of all time using the Choice engine) got a couple of Nazis drawn to the comments just for the title alone - mind you, the game is actually about Low/Middle Medieval Fantasy.
Then again I do not check every single game out there, maybe it is more widespread than we think.

Deffinitely is. The smeagol jokes and "fake account" was up for a long time. He stoped posting when IGG (intentionnally or not) had anti-add-block on the coment tool (so you basically had to remove your add blocker to coment).
Never saw him post again during (and after) that time. He was still around before this time and even when we got to change the coment system multiple time.
That is odd - I have an adblocker on all the time and never have to take it out for IGG. Sometimes I do have to take it down for the downloads, but... Not that annoying at that point.
