Be careful with this one. In a word? Starforce. The latest patch (1.4.3 I think) will REMOVE this. Make sure you get the patches. Some people have reported their laptops and/or desktops becoming unusable until a rollback/reinstall.

Yes. It's been awhile since I tested this... but I did get it to work. I think I downloaded the 1.1.1 to 1.4.3 patch though because I was unsure of what this version was. Decent old old school game.
It works with the patch (on my laptop) updating the game from 1.1.1 to 1.4.3. I was around during the days of SF so I really don't want to test it with "protect.exe" and installing even newer SF drivers.
