Boy, what an overhyped, fucking sweaty mess.

Graphically it doesn't even look like Redout anymore, just another game came out of nowhere - the old voxel style design is gone, and then there's the UI, I don't know what game they're trying to mimic... Forza Horizon? Lol you failed big time my guy.

Let's talk about difficulty this time... I can beat the hardest AI in the first game, this? Fuckers are just railing through the track at top speed even on lowest difficulty settings, as if physics doesn't exist!

Shit, even the tutorial feels impossible to complete, Jesus.

Also, you don't have the option to buy upgrades you want anymore, because even ships are unlocked randomly through a gatcha-alike system, and to make it worse, you only get ONE reward each race.

And finally we have this weird new boost system - you get two kinds of boost, one that you can use as long as you want and doesn't drain your energy pool; thing is, if your engine overheats, your ship starts to lose health! So don't hold down boost button for too long or you'll blow up - there's no way to make the engine cools faster, you can only wait for the gauge to go down.

And then the hyper boost, which is a one-shot boost that drains your entire energy pool, damages your ship if you happen to use it with waste heat left in the engine.

Powerups? Sorry my friend, we're out of stock here - literally!

For those who say they miss Wipeout, just play Ballistic NG, it's the best Wipeout alternative ever.
None of the Wipeout-like games which came out since a decade even comes close to it. Best Wipeout experience I had since Wipeout 2097 on Sega Saturn.

I tried it. It's literally just Wipeout with updated graphics, even the control scheme is more or less the same. The power ups certainly are.

Veteran Redout players are quite upset in Steam review section... clearly they fucked up again even after Redout Space Assault.

Judging from those negative reviews I saw, yes, first game is better than this.
Thing is, the "cosmetic" tuning parts they added to the new game need to be unlocked via a system similar to Forza Horizon's Wheelspin. That means, what you get from a race is completely random, and you're less likely to get what you really want to use.
The handling also doesn't feel like antigravity racer according to those reviewers - it's more like car or aircraft racing, not futuristic AG racer.
