Dark Devotion is one of those games where everything seems decent or good, but there are some iffy design choices here and there that make some things difficult to deal with, e.g. "quality of life" issues.
I encounter the same error as I_ran0utofnames, so i did some digging. Beside the difference in size, there was a peculiar change in steam_appid.txt. The content was 288750 in the current version, instead of 1280930 in the older version.
So, just go into steam_settings and change the content of steam_appid.txt into 1280930 and everything should work.

I only played it in EA-Phase,but also short,cuz didnt want spoil my fun. I love it,it doesnt invent nor makes great gameplay changes when it comes to Rogue-Lites(Dead Cells,Hades etc)but it has his own charme and its very enjoyable and you have different characters(unlockable),and the rest.... I am more than eager to find out 🎮🤖😋
