It's finally out of beta after three years. The 1.0 has already been requested, so I look forward to it being posted soon. ๐ค Hopefully the save-game will be backwards-compatible this time and not require starting over again.
It's quite fun, but as store page mentioned this is not an idle game at all. All progress requires actively attempting to level things up and you will have nothing really stopping you for a while if you are actively combining spells intuitively to push your level ups. The main enjoyment comes from the ever increasing ways you can configure your spells as you look for ways through the research trees. It's a puzzle itch.
After a few days I reached quite a bit of slowdown as I have pushed magic, scholar, world, and workshop hard as I can for small gains, and the last big unlock I got being alchemy, feels completely useless. First point where I didn't get any good new unlocks and I am jumping around looking through research and such for where I can push further as I keep making small gains in the existing categories. Still enjoying the game but you really do have to dig through these menus hard to figure it out constantly.
Further you may quite often as I have encounter the UI completely breaking in one way or another when you are spamming level ups. Just quit to menu and come back in to fix these.
The music is also quite nice and one of the tracks in particular is absolutely a banger. That is a nice aspect you don't usually get in the many low effort incrementals.
Nothing has really bottlenecked me thus far and the game remains very enjoyable. Mainly you will always have to really read deep into everything available to you and don't get stuck on the inventory tab later in the game forgetting to go back to upgrades tab and missing you had major unlocks waiting for you.
There is a research you want to get as soon as you see it that enables a third option for all unlocks instead of the standard two, so you can pick more relevant spells, artifacts, augments and such when you get the few chances to do so, as these are very important choices seeing as there will be a lot of options you don't get to pick (not sure if super late game you'll ever get to buy them all, but perhaps.)
Also, probably one of the most important unlocks in the game will be the agromancy (planting) category. The pain here is that you cannot see details on every plant you have, but keep in mind that you want to try to grow everything at the highest druidry level for size bonuses which you can only see at the moment you plant. If you have advanced many levels you may want to cut down and replant existing trees, you'll see a huge jump in mastery, and may be missing the ironwood unlock for a bit as I was.
Treasure trees are absolutely not something you want to miss farming as you will constantly accrue one of six different scrolls that can enhance EVERY attribute further. (Only one of each scroll per atrribute but you can override low rank ones as you get higher scrolls.) For most things you want to spread your scrolls around until you are pushing better scrolls onto the most important attributes.
The game is really entertaining for those who like to puzzle over optimizing builds constantly as you unlock more and more levels of complexity. I still haven't reached the endgame in several days. Supposedly on the achievement screen there is a point where you even prestige and I can only imagine the layers...
I've pretty much reached the end of the game at this point, there are no more upgrades I can do, yet I can't unlock Rituals or organic essence, or most of the other materials I used to have in previous versions.
The problem with 1.0 is that instead of unlocking things like spells and artifacts like in previous versions where you would mix symbols in the recopies, the new version picks one at random (or two if you waste your study materials to unlock that research). That's stupid because it doesn't let you choose what to unlock next, so you can soft-lock like I have. Getting the next spell to do organic transmute requires WAAAY too much materials, so the game is over. ๐คท ๐คฆ
The discussions in the Steam page don't look too happy, so I'm putting this aside until Marple releases an update to fix it (and probably have to start from scratch yet again ๐).
I have to argue if you are ever soft-locking like that it is because you missed upgrading something, somewhere. Alchemy materials upgrades, mastery of your spells, alch, artifacts, using treasure trees to put scrolls on your attributes, there is always something to get out of the hole you are in. I've pushed first run probably further than anyone should and that was routinely while ignoring an aspect of upgrading for a while and letting it pile up.
The worst case scenario is you put every single expert research into only one book and refused to put a few in each to get major unlocks.
The general consensus is that the 1.0 release is a tedious pain compared to the rereleases, and I concur. There are some really frustratingly annoying bottlenecks, especially with Agromancy. The re-balancing Marple did for 1.0 did NOT make the game better. I expect there to eventually be a patch that will fix it (hopefully it WON'T require starting over from scratch like EVERY SINGLE update before did ๐).
I didn't bottleneck at all until I unlocked alchemy which seems like a totally useless category to me. But I am still pushing gains through the other categories. Now I have my main issue is even with Ralochs cube for temp buffing capacities, I just cannot get capacity overall to really keep up with how powerful my magic is. I have output and reserve over level 25 and looking at my +295Qt mana with only 141Qt capacity...
All capacity unlocks are just not pushing significantly anymore unless I find a new multiplier hiding somewhere.
Edit: I should add, the huge problem with agromancy is you cannot view the size of your planted trees. You need to cut down and replant your trees with the absolute highest druidry you can push with your spells, as the only indication of size of a tree is the moment it is done planting. Otherwise you may think it is a bottleneck getting so little. Also, you only need to really farm basic wood and then treasure trees at the point I am at. You can get force bark off shaving a single tree/casting thunderclap, and you can get way more paper than you know what to do with at any stage once you have arcanum/dense expansion. Thus you can also have pretty much as much thaumic scroll as you want, and the above resources. Only needing normal wood for the few upgrades requiring it (unfortunately).
The reflective concepts with splash resources showing wood (natural learning), force bark (energized learning) and thaumic scroll (magic learning) unfortunately are useless for those resources.
P.S.: There is a free Web/Flash-Version,but on Steam this seems to be updated, which could be a good thing. This Game has Potential for so much more, and it is far from Version1.0(0.5.1 atm)๐ค๐ค๐ค
I have a problem, when progressing, I've hit a few weird roadblocks. After unlocking Alchemy, you're given Transmute Knowledge, but when I slot it in and use it, it doesn't give Mastery Exp for Transmute Knowledge, locking me from the first major Alchemy upgrade Alchemist. I had solved that with savedata modding but now a similar thing is happening again with Transmute Amber where despite slotting it in, it doesn't generate Amber, pls help.
Alchemy cards wont generate mastery IF they cant run from either: not enough capacity of the category or the material it is trying to create is FULL.
So if you cannot create any knowledge or amber those resources were probably already capped. This usually happens with potions, but can happen to any capped resource.
Where'd you find something to save edit? I'm still interested in the game but I'm bored of the current progression pace and want to cheat in some time runes or something.
Google for a Base64 encoder/decoder site and paste in your save export. The variable names are double encoded but I used an LLM to help find my roadblock and fixed it
Well that expains why there was no update for this game for so long.
The screenshots are from the beta, the full game looks different.
The progress remains the same but everythig got overhauled so much that it got me completly confused.I tend to click on everything that looks clickble since I don't duerstand anything.
There is also limited resurcess that can be spend on reserch, however since the game is so confusing I don't know how dose the reserch affect me so I end up thinking if I screw up my run.
Why does a 840mb game need an .iso repack? I wanted to play it directly on steam deck, but nooo, now I gotta learn the whole linux ecosystem just to open it up lmao
Blame TENOKE, they like to force people to use their stupid installer. ๐ I use an immutable VM to run crap like this to avoid running rando executables on my system if I'm unable to extract the contents any other way.
You simply need to install or extract it on your PC, then copy it to your Steam Deck.
By the way, TENOKE (and other "Scene" groups) have been around for decades. They have their own rules, and every group must abide by them. This differs from P2P releases, which operate without any such rules. That is why the Scene has endured for so long and remains a reliable, clean source on the internet. It is no exaggeration to say that if the Scene were to ever distribute a virus, it would mark the collapse of the piracy world. After all, almost everything pirated onlineโmusic, software, movies, anime, gamesโoriginates from the Scene. => No matter where you download this game from, it ultimately comes from the Scene :D https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warez_scene
To address your question: if a release isn't uploaded in ISO format, the group (in this case, TENOKE) would be expelled from the Scene. These standardized formats allow users to cross-reference files against Scene databases to verify whether a download has been tampered with or contains a virus. For example: https://www.srrdb.com/release/details/Orb.of.Creation-TENOKE
That is why many long-time users of pirated software never get infected by viruses, even without using any antivirus program, a simple tool like 7-Zip to verify the CRC32 checksum is all that is needed.
It's a great game of resource management. V0.6 just brought the last part of game to the last scene, changing most of the mechanics before. Suggest puechasing it to support Maple!
