I know the developer and the story behind this game.
Basically, there was this Kickstarter called 'That Which Sleeps', which turned out to a scam with a half-insane/half-lying developer who obviously was punching way above his weight and had no idea what he was doing. All the money that was not used for art went down the drain, and all videos of the game were/are scripted - there is no actual, functioning engine behind them. All that ever came out was a half-working Map Editor.
Enter Bobby, the developer of Shadows Behind The Throne. While this game is far away from what was promised for TWS, at least it works - and the developer is very active, continually fixing bugs and improving the game based on player suggestions.
The game also has a very active fanbase making mods and what not. so I definitely recommend checking it out, if anything because it shows how persistence and dedication can lead to something actually being made.
This game is certainly amazing, after playing Dominions 5, this game is my favorite (low spec) God game. Hopefully someone will update it to the v(0.9), the new version has a new playable Elder God, Mammon, and some bugfixes.
Am really surprised how am soo much enjoying this game. The AI seems smart and the potential of the game is awesome. I hope modders will provide assistance to the game in future.
If you find the concept interesting I'd recommend also having a look at Unferat and Ruinarch which are both games where you play as an evil person/entity trying to mess with a group of good people but with very different scale/gameplay.
Ruinarch is fun. Though it's a very different style of game. It's like playing reverse Rimworld, where instead of building up your colony and managing your people, you're the enemy messing with a colony and trying to drive people nuts.
