For such a simple looking game it's poorly optimized. Anyway, it's Pokemon without the humans, I was kind of hoping that it'd at least try to make the battles less slow to play than in Pokemon but doesn't seem like it, no options for animation speed/use or anything. Deity Quest and Siralim series are still the best Pokemon type games I've come across.
The performance still is not the best, will wait for future patches to fix this. Edit: Tip to improve performance: go to the options.ini file, open it with notepad, and change SleepMargin value to 20-25. Make sure to not set too high of a value.
