I'm under the impression that for most, the creativity well has ran dry OR they simply fear that new ideas won't do well which could lead to a loss of income trying to produce it. So they go the get rich quick schemes to gain dosh from the clueless bunch. And, though we don't do much for the community, a ton of the input can give you some idea where the motives are coming from the devs since we have nothing truly to lose outside of time.

From early releases that may never finish before Half Life 3 is released, trash Unity games using the same free assets found on 10 other Unity games, you typical Smeagol bait RenPy game with Bizzaro World-tier storylines, books disguised to be a detailed game with the state-of-the-art graphics of basic fonts, to my most hated free-to-exploituse program that has spawned thousands of mutated living Barbie and Ken doll programmed to bump uglies in the most disturbing positions ever laid eyes on. My friend, they are all made for the sole purpose to take your possibly well-earned money and maybe some notoriety...... so they can get more money.

It can be argued, but there's some real justification to shiver me timbers, matey the hell out of these games simply for the principle of it all.
