ori meets mario maker kaizo levels. it definitely has that romhack levels feel. actually the steam version even has a user-made levels which truly emphasizes kaizo.
personally I can't play long sessions anymore. I'd recommend it, but you'll have way more content in mario maker 2. sadly it's on switch only. I'd just point you there instead really. sure that game has plenty trash levels (since its user-based levels) but Sturgeon's Law applies to anything anyway.
