I also had this problem with Niko. Again, a Darksiders installer. I was able to work around it by installing the game on a flash drive with a Windows 10 machine, and then transferring that folder back to my gaming PC.
That first screenshot was giving me some serious Advance Wars vibes. I already want to kick IS in the dickhole repeatedly for abandoning AW for endless Fire Emblem trash but I seriously thought they did this too... We need some Advance Wars games again. :(
Advance wars lol, try super robot games (much better than advance wars that is a low quality copy paste) they did a translation of the ps2 one, you could play it in a emulator, it's amazing
RNG rolls are vital for a truly good Strategy Game. It essentially forces you to manipulate your own luck, make decisions based on numbers, and if everything fails it forces you to adapt to a bad outcome. Remove to many of those hit-rolls, and you're left with a puzzle game, where the same decision will always have the same outcome, and there is always a correct way to win a battle. It might be good, but it's not strategy. Strategy is always about addapting to bad situations.
I would be okay if there are multiple outcomes depending on how far the roll landed from the threshold for "success", and if the player has means to remedy failures, salvage something or use that failure to set up the next round or engagement. But all or nothing outcomes? Fuck these.
While, as the reply above said, RNG rolls are almost a requirement for strategy games, I heartily agree with having more 'granular' outcomes to rolls instead of a constant, unpredictable and often completely stupid 'all or nothing' sort of deal. A lot of strategies in these games end up reduced to "maximize your RNG chances and win consistently", which is dumb as fuck. There needs to be a range of outcomes; glancing hits from a cannon shell that dent the armor but don't do much damage, bursts of automatic fire in which only a few bullets hit but help keep the enemy suppressed, explosives that go a bit off course but still damage the enemy somewhat, that sort of thing. Similar shit happens in 'choose an option' text scenarios in some games, where your chance of success is determined by a character's skills but there's an element of RNG which ultimately determines the outcome, leading to a failure that has no plausible explanation beyond "oh, you had a 5% chance to fail this so fuck you lmao".
Ooh grrrr, the text ones really get my goat. Fucking FTL started that. Also, there are games with the awful contrivance of not giving the player a 100% chance, i.e. there is always a minimum probability of failure, no matter how careful and thorough the player is. These are the worst!
When artists and animators don't even go for faces that look believable. That includes cartoons with caricatured humans, by the way - like Rick and Morty.
Ooooh,so i get to slay "uwu, struggle snuggle, fuzzy wuzzy"? I'd rather avoid them instead,if i would try to slay those entities saying those cringy lines i probably would've recoiled from cringe like when you get hit and you have thorns enchantment on other game and died in real life instead.
It really gives me the impression of a mobile game too. 2D planar presentation, going from left to right automatically, running over supplies to collect them ... not too terribly complex to code.
Not really, it's heavily inspired from the Anime War Game (can't name any I don't reccall their name since it's not my jam usually) but it's more focus on the fact you pilot a mecha with different part to upgrade and (when face an enemy) attack rather than troops of units. Looked cool on trailer, have to see what it's worth on release now.
I think I read somewhere on the game's steam discussions page that the best possible ending doesn't involve sacrificing any of the kids. So I think it's possible to not do that but I need to play the game to make sure.
Try to run it as administrator, that is a requirement for some games on this site to save progress... if that doesn't fix it... well, lets wait for someone more knowledgeable to reply.

If there are button issues, you can link it to your steam app, or combine both

Just have freedom to Equip and upgrade ...

It's already 2021, and there are still developers who resort to RNG rolls to determine outcomes.

Tho i hate the idea that you need to sacrifice one of the kids in order to use the ultimate weapon.
So I think it's possible to not do that but I need to play the game to make sure.
this looks very linear and too much power point than gameplay instead
