the way you can change back and forth from old to new graphics is nice but i was hoping they were gonna do a morphing effect between the two styles - the way that "r-type dimensions" game done it.
I'm glad i played this game pirated, I would've have refunded if I bought it. The controls are really bad, I play it from time to time on an old console I have and this remake is a terrible money grab
Just my two cents, but I just lost THREE LIVES in a row in the very first boss fight because of the totally random aspect of the "jan-ken-pon" game... I remember in the Megadrive games (Enchanted Castle), there was a way to tell what your opponent would do (although he could change his mind at the last second, but it was acceptable), but here, I don't see any hint, is it normal? So it means that it's 100% based on luck? ........... FUCK THAT. Are you kidding me??? I enjoyed Alex Kidd on Megadrive as a kid, but I'll stick to the old games just because of this. They should remake Enchanted Castle instead, I felt like most flaws of the first game were corrected. Also, it was possible to disable vehicles and then re-enable them, so you could keep them forever as long as you don't hit anything. None of that here. Finally, the inertia makes your jumps way less precise than in the original game. (Update : the developer listened to critics, as I'm far from being the only one complaining about the controls, and they're going to give players the choice to disable inertia and have more precise controls.) Edit : 5th life lost in a row in jan-ken-pon. Uninstalled F-O-R-E-V-E-R. I have seen lots of stupid stuff in my life, but this tops the cake. Incredible. I see a guy on Steam writing this : "Thankfully, the bosses do use the same "hand" every time you fight them, so you can memorize that and outsmart them, but it just feels like a waste of time." WRONG. I just tried and the hand was different every time for me. First time, he used scissors, and second time was rock. So, you have NO way of telling what it's going to be. Check and tell me how it works out for you. Edit #2 : You can buy an item in the store which will give you the ability to read the mind of your opponent for the Jan-Ken-Pon game... (or is it a permanent upgrade? I'm not even sure) I also have to mention the fact that the items you buy have NO description whatsoever. (a bug or something?)
Well, I really wanted to like it as I grew up with Sega games like this, but yeah, I guess some gameplay mechanics have aged badly. Still love old 90s games, though! I never plays Amiga back then, but I know some of the games were pretty fun, like Road Rash, James Pond II, Sensible Soccer, Worms... Well, these ones were on Megadrive too, though. he he
highly unlikely they will remake Enchanted Castle , as miracle world is the only alex game thats considered a classic. shinobi world was alright as well but too easy
When games were about originality and having fun and not about assets and "good graphics". Kids you can't understand the feeling, so don't even try to judge this game, simply pass and go play COD and Fortnite with your ratkid friends.
C'mon, are you talking about Alex Kidd and originality? C'mon, Alex Kidd wasn't a bad game but it wasn't know because it's originality. Which one? All of them copied the mechanics of other games.
As much as I love Alex Kidd because of nostalgia, but my god was this comment dumb. Not gonna lie, without nostalgia, I wouldn't play this game... or "Wolfenstein 3D". A Rock/Paper/Scissors system has no business in a plattformer... and overall, the game is extremely basic with a really unconfortable momentum. And of course, "go play COD and Fortnite"... When do people stop typing this crap and name actually good games from this day and age? I wanna read for once "go play God of War" or "go play Wolfenstein: The New Order". How about the latest "Ratchet & Clank"? It has wonderful graphics and the gameplay was an absolute blast. People should be allowed to judge old games in a negative way. I, for example, can't stand these old Atari games, but the AVGN thinks they are the best games in existence... again, because of nostalgia. So yeah, there are surely people who can't stand Master System and NES games.
So you don't get anything of what I said. If I put examples like COD and Fortnite is because they are overrated games, I wouldn't say go play Days Gone, because it's a work of art. You have to judge a game in it's context, Alex Kidd was one of the first platformers of it's era, I know 90% of you didn't know Alex Kidd was the first attempt of SEGA to fight against Mario from Nintendo, Sonic born later. It have good mechanics and ORIGINAL BOSS FIGHTS with rock-paper-scissors. But who cares, nowadays you only judge things in your own context, so an old Lamborghini Miura is shit because a BMW M3 is faster.
that's not what we all mean, Alex Kidd in Miracle World was a good game on it's era, but, if the developers could fix the problems of the original game, that would be even better than maintaining the original one, that was creative in the past, but horrible now
"So you don't get anything of what I said." Yeah maybe... I don't really care... and don't need to read the rest, especially when I see at the bottom "a BMW M3 is faster". Also, there wasn't much to understand. If you don't mean what you were writing, write it in a different way in the first place.
Compared with COD, it was finally a really good shooter again. You know, the genre that died after "Return to Castle Wolfenstein" and a few "Medal of Honor" games. After that, we got hiding behind cover and regenerating health. I don'T care about propaganda you shmuck, I simply talk about gameplay. And "unimaginative gameplay"? It was a shooter, simple as that... you aim at things, you pull the trigger.
Oh yeah, the fucking rock-paper-scissors bullshit in boss fights. You know, I remember having played a Doraemon knock-off of Alex Kidd on one of Sega's platforms - and it was better because Doraemon (or was it Nobita?) can shoot the crap out of enemies with guns from his dimensional pocket. Screw punching - that's for fools.
I have never experienced Alex Kidd - and after seeing what passes for combat in this game, I am glad that I did not. For one, the player character dies immediately upon contact with enemy sprites - yet his primary attack is a punch that has him coming to a stop if he is on the ground or losing momentum when he is mid-air. This sucks.
Pretty sure this was on the Master System and not the Genesis. EDIT: Yeah confirmed, this one was on the Master System. The Genesis one was Alex Kid in the Enchanted Castle
Is that one good? I saw some info on it, looks interesting. And yeah man, give Alex Kid a try, it's super fun. In this one you can even switch back to the old style Master System graphics if you want
they picked arguably the worst one in the series, and then made the thought reading of the jjankenpon a thing you gotta buy lol. what a heap. maybe if enough nostalgia pigs buy it, they'll make a proper game. and maybe not screw up the fundamental way Alex controls. it's liek they didnt even play the original, this one feels liek crap
I mean this was the first one and arguably the most beloved, especially by Brazilian players(Believe me, Brazil goes nuts for this game). As for the jankenpon I'm pretty sure every boss follows a set pattern that never changes.
the remake messed it up from what I can see. the old patterns dont work, and repeating what you did one time doesnt always work the next. they pretty much riined the entire fun of the thought bubbl predicitions and last-second changes. that was the charm lol
You darn kids and your visibly identifiable images and non-ear piercing music. Back in my Atari days, everything were in block form. It was blue block versus a horde of brown blocks all-day-long! And no matter how well we did, it was the same each time; the end is inevitable death for your lil blue block. Just like life. Now that's some values they don't teach in school anymore. And karnsarnitt that's the way we liked it! Now, GET OFF MY LAWN!
I know man. Enchanted Castle was a more polished game and back then I didn't even know it was a sequel :D The Miracle World is new to me. I somehow wished it was going to be a revival and re-adaptation when the remake was announced. It seems like it's very close to a remaster however.
"Enchanted Castle was a more polished game" It's bad... like really terrible with extremely wonky hitboxes. Sometimes, you can jumpkick on an enemy, sometimes not. Your punch has a way smaller reach than it looks like it. Other than that, the game is extremely bad layed out. Absolutely no boss till the end of the game that isn't "Janken" based... you have to even play it in order to buy an item while risking a life. And there is only one castle. If you wanna play a good sequel, search for the rom "Alex Kidd in Miracle World 2." Same for "Alex Kidd in Miracle World 3" which has an expanded rom with really neat graphics, but some gameplay-rules are changed, and some for the worse. Both games are fangames/hacks of the original "Miracle World" and a million times better than "Enchanted Castle". EDIT: 2: https://www.smstributes.co.uk/alexkidd2.asp 3: https://www.smspower.org/Hacks/AlexKiddInMiracleWorld-SMS-AlexKidd3CurseInMiracleWorld-Mod
Thanks, I didn't know about those games, and I admit, they're infinitely superior to that remake. In fact, playing those unofficial sequels confirm me how bad the remake is. I should really play more hacked roms and unofficial sequels, there are so many hidden gems...
That's an admirable glass half-full attitude. Realistically however, even though nostalgia is a hell of a drug, it lasts for only 10 minutes ... and then you find yourself thinking: "Wow, some of these mechanics should've stayed in the 80s." It can still be a fun game though.
I once borrowed this particular SEGA for a few days, but at the time I was playing on my ZX Spectrum+ and a little later on the Atari 800XL (and before that on PONG:)
Nope, that was the time when a lot of games were exiting, because they invented new mechanics and gameplay unseen before. The change of hardware (8 bit to 16 bit to 32 bit) also made great leaps in graphics and complexity of the games possible, compared to this, the progress today is really inferior. But you're obviously a Retard, so I am wasting time here.
Why don't you go copy my entire statement, go on that foreign, obscure website called Google and plug it in there and find out who the fucking retard is, shit for brains. Your screen name to yourself is extraordinarily true to the tee. Oh and Mr. Genius, it's spelled "exciting". You are indeed wasting your time here, there is a pail that you should be drooling into somewhere.
No native speaker, so "exiting" can happen. I recommend, you write your next comments in German language. And for the Morons MORONS, here you go: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zwJFsjKZ360
