Why no TftD remake? I want Cthulhu and atmospheric underwater battles, not the thousands' boring on Land Turn based strategy game.

I remember I asked the new XCOM devs in their facebook about that, making a remake of Terror from the Deep, and they liked my comment, it's the one with the best story and alien database, let's hope they make it some day :)

What's the difference between the UFO series and the X-Com?

And to no one's surprise the game is in a state that shouldn't be seen. Turning on subtitles caused it to CTD. Running in a window requires a restart and now it won't open at all without a /safe suffix.
I'll give them this, they've definitely recreated the out-of-the-box experience of the original.

Presumably you are referring to UFO:Aftermath, UFO:Aftershock and UFO:Afterlight. As the other person responded, they are variations on a theme. The biggest difference you will immediately enounter is that they are 'realtime with pause' games, not unlike the old Baldur's Gate or more recent Pathfinder game.
THIS GAME HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THEM. UFO: Extraterrestrials is it's own series by different developers and the first one was one of the worst XCOM clones of all time. It was basically unplayable upon release and was only made kinda playable by a fanpatch that actually got included inthe GOLD edition of the game.
The UFO:After series shits all over UFO:Extraterrestrials, easily. Especially the middle one Aftershock.
Even when it was forced to function properly, the game added pretty much nothing to the genre, providing an objectively worse experience than the original 90's XCOM that came on two floppy disks, while still managing to be uglier. It WAS easily moddable, but this was mostly used to fix the game presented to purchasers.
Despite all this, UFO Extraterrestrials had (and maybe HAS) a surprisingly active and welcoming community, probably because of it's foreign roots (can't remember if its Slavic or European).
I have been playing XCOM since before it came out, when a friend's parent got a demo disk for it in an Apple magazine. I PREORDERED the first UFO: Extraterrestrials at my local Gamestop when it was an Electronic's Boutique.
I will, of course, be downloading this immediately.

On the other hand, I do hope that they balance the use of time units to do attacks and such other significant actions.
Xenonauts have a balancing measure, e.g. firing a weapon takes away an amount of time units according to a percentage of maximum time units that a soldier has.
Otherwise, veteran characters are going to look like quicksilver from the perspective of rookies.

Never played Xenonauts, waiting for part II. The demo looks good.
"firing a weapon takes away an amount of time units according to a percentage of maximum time units that a soldier has."
It's like the original XCom. Aimed shot 60%, normal shot 45% and fast shot was 26%. Or something like that.

Good to know that it was already there in the original X-COM games. I don't remember Apocalypse having that though.
Don't forget the hyphen. There IS a hyphen.
