....................what stops me from refunding after I finish it?

what's so funny about that? it's true. there are tons of games that are incredibly short that are worth the experience they give you for the price. I'm fully aware of how dumb this sounds posting on a piracy hub but this site is incredibly helpful in discovering random indie games i would never see otherwise, and i reward them accordingly when the experience is good. and if you can afford to, you should as well. making games is hard as FUCK

Me personally use this site for 3 explicit circumstances

  1. To pirate all epic games exclusives.(exclusives on the Pc are a pox and must be fought tooth and nail!)
  2. To pirate all triple A games accept anything made by fromsoft or yoko toro.
  3. To demo indie games that don't have demos or have demos that are too short to make a purchase from.
The 2 hours steam gives isn't enough to demo a lot of games, for instance lets say you never played darksouls and you wanted to demo it. well 2 hours would not be enough to know whether you are a masichore gamer. in fact you really need to beat the first real boss before you get the souls like rush that really makes us addicted to the rewarding nature of those games. not all games take that long for instance a game like hyper light drifter is the type of game you know for sure in the first 40 min whether you love it or whether you have horrible taste in videogames and are an objectively bad human.
I think it's super important that we reward indie devs who truly support their community and strive to do everything right. Dev teams like relogic who put out 10-15$ expansion sized updates multiple times for Terreria for free almost 10 years after it was released. Devs like unknown worlds who used early access for its actual purpose and actually listened to their EA testers and made drastic game and story changes to the game based on community feedback. Devs like lofi games who also used early access properly and with 1 dev then years later a few more to make a masterpiece game that truly allows player freedom to shape every aspect of their game in kenshi. Devs like hello games who legit created a live service style game for free with zero microtransactions and still adds 10-20$ expansion packs every 6 months for free proving once and for all the EA/activision/ubisoft have in fact been lying to us all this entire time and proved that the sale of a single uber hyped game can literally pay a 20 man dev teams salary for 5+ years of constant updates alone and that simply making a genuinely good game will sell enough copies every update to justify keeping it free to those who purchase it once. Even devs like nolla games who literally created a game so original it barley fits any previously defined genres and is crafted with so much passion and dedication that you cant help but grin from ear to ear the first time you boot it up and realize every single spec is simulated and has interaction potential that borders on what most of us thought was science fiction and only possible through text like paragraph dumps like in dwarft fortress rather than real time pixel art.
The devs i mentioned who truly understand and love their community, who push the boundaries of what gaming is, are totally original and single handedly breath life into an otherwise stagnate gaming landscape through passion and mutual respect for gaming and gamers. Devs who are beloved artists that are humble, magnanimous, and even dare I say altruistic(cough Sean Murray cough) deserve our respect and they deserve our money and they deserve to be rewarded and encouraged at every step of their journey! For if we don't show them this what could we possibly expect from game devs other than tyrannical greed and a deep loathing of the gaming community? How can we expect respect and community driven games without predetory monetization if all we do is spit on their art and steal their hard work?
No I believe we should all strive to punish the greedy triple A companies and reward the altruistic dev teams.
The only exception I make is for people who genuinely can't afford videogames. I use to pirate when I had no income but I went back and bought all the indie games I felt deserved it the moment I could afford it and I would judge anyone who did the same. Besides it's not like you would have bought the game and pirating stopped that, you literally didn't change the ratio of purchases at all. Furthermore it will allow you to experience there art and perhaps tell others thereby acting as free advertising and if you are a good person you will buy the game once you have disposable income and I think this is an all around win for devs who genuinely make good games. This system only hurts the devs who lie and steal from their customers and screw them anyways. If for instance you claimed you were going to make the greatest game ever made based on a beloved table top game and you said this for years then released a buggy unplayable game that was worse narratively and mechanically than any game you made before you became mainstream..well..it would really, really hurt these type of devs and i think that is a good thing.

Had to login just to say how much I disagree with this dumb guy. Nobody is paying to support DRM, stolen assets from other games, or shady microtransactions. Not saying this game has all that but believe me plenty of them do.

this game doesn't have any of those things. literally all i said is that if you find the experience worthwhile and you can afford to, you should support the developer. and that's dumb to you? You guys are fucked

Sure, it's not easy to make games - but it's a saturated market now.
If game developers can't make things that are entertainingly worthwhile, they would be fucked, and they deserve to be so.
