This got me itchy to play some EDF, so I finally got around to trying EDF5 and it really sealed for me that World Brothers is simply not good.
Mission design results in just a big playground of random bugs walking around. You never get the feeling of "a horde is rushing me" that you get in EDF.
Progression is based around completing missions, not picking up weapon/armor boxes as you kill bugs. It's just not as fun.
The weapons are seriously terrible, I didn't find one good weapon in my 10+ hours playing.
The humor went from campy B movie to ultra self-aware lame humor.
I own this on my switch and i can say this is one of the better ones. It can be far more grindy than any of the older titles as the way your people get armour is by mission completion and that can take some time but do note that it is dependent on who you are and the difficulty plus if you are the super grindy type the max armour is 999,999. I would suggest playing with friends if possible because it not only makes it more fun like any other EDF but it makes missions that much more enjoyable too. This EDF title is definitely one of the shorter ones but the campy humor is well worth it plus it looks pretty nice for voxel and it has a lot of your faves from previous titles, like for me the heavy striker and prowler.
That is where the EDF games live... in the land between okay and great. Same game over and over with little improvements usually. But this is a fuckin weird move even for them. Is it at least as good as the average EDF?
I mean from what I've seen it's fun if you can ignore the voxel look. It's definitely much less super cereal than Iron Rain so it you like schlock and "humor", it's your game. But it's definitely better with friends
Spoiler alert: despite the "switch between four players on the fly" gimmick, it plays exactly like every other EDF game since time immemorial, except with even worse graphics. Still, if you really loved those games, you'll like this too. If you've never played or feel meh about the EDF games, I would skip this one.
EACH person has a four person team when playing MP and can switch through them at will, just like in SP. It's not what you think. Also, while that is new, it adds very little to the moment-to-moment gameplay in a practical sense.
Yes, I know exactly how it's played. Not only have I seen a stream I've also played it for myself. And you're wrong, it adds a lot to the moment-to-moment gameplay especially due to each character's special abilities(Though I've already seen some repeating though that might be because of the DLC characters)
How about everyone?
