I actually enjoy playing FMV games but IMHO, this just dragged the entire genre down one notch. IMHO, We need more FMV games like https://igg-games.com/the-complex-free-download.html.

Maybe the devs were high when they thought about creating such a game. My first VCR was a top loader with manual tracking, so I hear you. My later decks were all front loaders with automatic tracking. Maybe the devs forgot that auto tracking was introduced later on because people were turned off about manually adjusting the tracking so they thought "Why don't we make a FMV game where that is the object of the game? People will love the nostalgia!".

I still have all of my front loader VCRs though only one of them functions properly (Some of them have worn out drive belts for which I couldn't find a replacement or other mechanical problems like a broken threading mechanism which fails to wrap the loaded tape against the video drum). I rarely use it now since I need to preserve it for as long as possible so that eventually I can transfer my family/personal content that was recorded on VHS videotape to my PC (Getting it transferred professionally would cost a lot). The top loader VCR's loading mechanism broke (It wouldn't eject/pop up anymore), so that deck was trashed years ago. It just goes to show that "Nothing lasts forever".
