I loved a game like that once. It was one of those "Windows" gamed made to play in a small windows like Minesweeper. I think this was back on Windows XP. I thought it was called Medieval Chess but could never find it again. More modern looking than Archon you could shoot arrows and capture pieces in unique ways. Shame I can't remember more than that. I remember playing Archon on Atari 400. There is a modern version made on IGG that came out not long ago.
I remember that game and it was better than Archon :) It can still be downloaded from Abandonia. However, there are a lot of things to do to get this game to run (DOSBox and sound problems).
Wait is that a real game ??? Daaaaamn I wonder if Moral Kombat Mystification took inspiration from that, in this title of the franchise we had a Chess Game where you get to chose each character for each class and when you took some piece you get to duel (with fatality) to decide who won the said square.
