you have to run the EXE through Steamless and delete the 'unpacked.exe' at the end of the created EXE file to make the game work. You can't just replace the DLL files. IGG should have done this themselves, but I guess they forgot?

Whenever I try to start it, it tries to open Steam, is this happening to someone else too?

Edit: Using Steamless fixed it, just do the thing that hardjack said 2 comments bellow.

it's an antipiracy measure, i think that can be fixed using IamYourDev's tutorial:

"You should download Mr. Goldberg's Steam Emulator and apply the steam_api.dll and steam_api64.dll under Mad Games Tycoon 2_Data > Plugins > x86"

Just look at the comment 2, maybe 3 below yours and you should see how to fix it, posted by IamYourDev.
Get another steam_api.dll and steam_api64.dll and replace it to Mad Games Tycoon 2_Data > Plugins > x86
For example get Mr. Goldberg's Steam Emulator for the dll.

The version available as of today is so buggy it's basically unplayable:

unable to create game engines
unable to create arcade cabinets
UI issues when getting achievements/awards
Do not download and don't waste your time.

Hello! It seems that this version is not cracked properly, so you'd actually trip the anti-piracy of the game. but there should be a fix:

You should download Mr. Goldberg's Steam Emulator and apply the steam_api.dll and steam_api64.dll under Mad Games Tycoon 2_Data > Plugins > x86

This game version added and fixed these issues:

BUILD 2022.04.06A --------------------------------

Build mode: If you hold down the left Control key and click on an object, it will be copied (even if the build menu is not open).
Construction mode: With the right mouse button you can deselect the current object.
Subsidiary: You can now select up to 4 platforms that your subsidiary should prioritize.
In the options, you can now activate / deactivate the [★] marker for subsidiary games.
Remove game from market" menu: search function added.
Game development -> "Engine selection" menu: search function added.
Game development -> "Engine selection" menu: The technology level of the engine and the lowest technology level of the platforms are now displayed.
BALANCE: Revenue of F2Ps increased significantly.
BUG: If you picked up a co-worker and touched a room button with the mouse pointer, you could not drop the co-worker.
