This is probably going to be a disappointment compared to SOMA but I will play it anyway. Might even purchase this title. For anyone who hasn't played Soma, do it, it's amazing. Before I did not play SOMA because a bunch of reviewers called it boring, not horror, etc. A good example of imbeciles lacking taste. Frictional games have always been about psychology and athmospheric horror, and SOMA was really an amazing storyline. The only downside with SOMA is that if you have played subnautica, you will be disappointed by the underwater environments which create dread, but not as much as subnautica. Play Soma if you want a great unnerving story and subnautica style environment.

The original Amnesia is one of the best horror games ever made, specially with the incredible mods people made. A Machine for Pigs was pure trash, like Outlast 2, usually second parts are really bad compared to the originals, but with the 3rd part, they probably made a better game, avoiding the fails in the 2nd one.

I agree with Adam. Someone might find Silent Hill terrifying, but RE dull, or vice versa. Likewise, fans of Outlast might enjoy a game like this, or might hate it. Um Amnesia: A Machine For Pigs wasnt scary at all. I roamed for 2 hours before i saw the ridiculous pig enemy. Plus the lantern is unlimited (not challenging), not much interactables and barely any voice acting. Uninstalled it without completing it. Truly dissapointing. I have almost finished Rebirth and i thank FG for making a much better game than AMFP
As I said: Horror is a completely subjective matter that varies from person to person. Different things scare different people, and what scares some people may not scare you and me. But just because it doesn't scare you or me doesn't rule it out as being overall scary, it just means that it didn't do it for you personally. Personally, I'm fine without excessive voice acting. A horror game should be more about the atmosphere anyways. If there's some voice acting to move the story along, great. If a game chooses to stick to it for the absolute bare basics and rely more on the tense environment, even better.
Original RE1 and RE2 were the best games. Everything after that is action fan service really. But the original RE1/RE2 had some amazing horror. Not really, there is a lot happening, many interactions, not hard but interesting puzzles, amazing story, multiple endings that you can choose at the end, many excellent cutscenes. Well, I was very immersed in the game. it's rare for horror games, i think, but this was very, very fun to play, and i was strongly connected to the main character, i was immersed, for me that was a very fun horror adventure by frictional games, many parts were shocking especially closer to the end. Of course many people may not like this game at all and there are many people that don't like it, and many that do, it's their opinions, personally i like it very much.

So...Amnesia, i had a lot of great and scary moments with The Dark Descent back in 2010 whose atmosphere and sound, mostly the sound, were amazing and really, and i'm not kidding, scared the shit out of me. Then in 2015 these guys come back with SOMA that scared the shit out of me but not because the atmosphere and sound, which were great as well, but the story....the story of SOMA got me thinking for hours after finish it. That's nothing new for horror lately. Outlast has it as well, and I believe Remothered has it on occasion also. Sometimes monsters are more into the idea of scaring you than they're into the idea of putting clothes on first.

See, that's subjective for people though. Like, I never found Amnesia: Dark Descent to actually scary personally. It was a great game, but aside from the water demon (which was more just worrying about getting through without dying rather than actually scared), there were never any moments that really made me jump. Same goes for Machine for Pigs...great game, but not one that had me regretting playing it at night in the dark.
SOMA is made by the same developers, but yes it will scare u without using monsters as like amnesia: the dark descent but to do it u must get in to the lore of the game. It's fascinating though (i love the part about alexander and where's he from).

SOMA was a good story game but a mediocre horror game. Amnesia dark descent did it best, good atmosphere, good mechanics and decent narrative that doesn't drag on like in this one
I've heard nothing but good things about Soma. I saw nothing but great things from The Dark Descent, but after they gave the IP to Frictional and Chinese House for A Machine for Pigs, I doubted any new installment would really have heart behind it. Amnesia seems like a throwaway IP from the looks of it now.

Because so far people that played it say it not scary, the MC never shut the heck up so it break the imersion (like she coment on EVERYTHING like in the trailler), the puzzle are sparse and not great... I don't know the extent of which is true, since I don't watch playthrought, but I doubt you can invent line of dialogue that doesn't exist. Better to play it yourself. Outside influence is just advertising and doesn't help anybody. It's why I avoid trailers like the plague. Expectations are similar, just self-imposed advertising that either disappoints or makes you unnecessarily bitter. I've tried to do away with expectation, too.
