A GAME FOR MASOCHIST FREAKS Just the two cents opinion of somebody who played video games since 1990 : this is THE MOST DIFFICULT GAME EVER MADE, and there's not even a contest. You've been warned. The deaths are always EXTREMELY cheap and insanely frustrating. 😡😡😡 Some enemies and traps just come out of nowhere, it's not your fault and you can't do anything. Many enemies and traps make you bounce far away, sending you right in the arms of another enemy, so you lose one more heart and bounce again, SINCE YOU'RE FUCKING STUNLOCKED, and so on, until you lose your 4 hearts and die miserably. At this point, hot steam is starting to come out of your ears... 😡😡😡 This happens in 99,99% of your runs. And this means literally instant death. On a side note, I propose that this game should be renamed INSTANT DEATH. Cos it's how it feels like, mostly.😡😡😡 Finishing a level or not depends on 90% of pure luck, and 10% of skills. Your whip is still desperately short, it's really really horrible. I thought it was a joke when I saw it. 😨😂👍 I feel like the character would have a longer reach with his arm. lol Every multiplayer mode is just completely dumb and unplayable. Good ADDICTIVE game, though. Despite losing EVERYTHING every time you die (like an old-school roguelike), the runs are short enough to motivate us to try again right away. A pure "just one more time" game! But it's one of the better games I've HATED the most in my entire life. lol😡😡😡 In my opinion, this game is SO hard that Spelunky 1 feels now like a walk in the park. Needless to say, I consider Spelunky 1 to be a vastly superior game, despite Spelunky 2 feeling more polished in general. Spelunky 3 will have to be a revolution in every way possible. Graphics : 80% I like them. Cute and clear.👍 Music and SFX : 85% Very good and in a similar style as the first game.👍 Controls : 65% Tight but a few mechanics are too slow or clunky, and this game requires lightning-fast reflexes.😓 OVERALL GAMEPLAY : 60% Just too frustrating and not fun.😡😡😡 NOTE : I'm sorry, but the ghost appearing automatically after 2m30s in every level (I forgot if it was the same time in the first game) is just a freaking stupid idea. Spelunky 2 takes way more time to play than Spelunky 1, cos every level is filled with traps like crazy, and 2min30s feels too short for many levels. So, not only you feel constantly frustrated while playing this game, you also feel constantly tense because of this invisible timer which forces you to finish every level as fast as possible. Hate it hate it HATE IT!!! NOTE #2 : I found the best paragraph in a review explaining in a few words how wrong this game is : "This isn’t my idea of fun. Spelunky 2 isn’t my idea of fun. I’ve long held the opinion that the best roguelikes do not actively try and kill the player. Instead they create scenarios whereby, through stupidity, carelessness or just plain greed, the player kills themselves. Most of my deaths in Spelunky 1 felt self-inflicted. Few of them felt completely unavoidable. Importantly I always felt like I was making progress; beating the game never felt like an insurmountable challenge. By contrast, Spelunky 2 feels actively malicious towards the player, like every time I die it’s grinning and nudging me in the ribs going “Do you like the way I killed you this time? How about this? How about this?”"
Many many people think this game is near perfect, and the deaths may seem unfair but they are not, experienced and patient players can deal with them by planning ahead, there are even people who speedrun this game. But there is a pretty big learning curve, so i recommend the game on co-op, which is way more forgiving so you can learn the ropes faster and with a friend so it isn't so stressful
Yes, funnily enough people who bought the game have make a copy & use goldbergs steam emu so they don't get in trouble on leaderboards & such. Edit- I was thinking of Overlunky so you can spawn any entities, but i believe Mods do work.Best thing is just try it man. I have no need too Mod the game yet, but overlunky definitely works.

Im having trouble with the game noticing my gamepad.... I tried many things.. Steam configurations... x360ce_x64... but it still doesnt notice my usb gamepad, while Blasphemous noticed it right away!....... :(
what pad do you use? i use a ps3/4 pad and use emulation software(ds4 for windows ps4 & scp for ps3) to make windows think it's an xbox 360 pad, you get 100% compatibility that way.

Gotta be honest, I don't feel this game that much, I feel like it's not for everyone, it requires a lot of patience for a roguelite and thinking of every move, I don't like this kind of pace, but it's very polished and I can't say it's a bad game, just not for me.
caveblazer its way more harder even without using relics you can get instantly killed with all relics its a fucking speedrun, and with vampire perk its even worse took me lots and lots of retries to finally finish the game with all relics on
I just tried Spelunky 2 for the first time... I spent many hours cos it's quite addictive, and I've gotta say, this is now on my top 5 of most difficult games I've ever played. I don't know if I love or hate this game. lol It's really overly ridiculous, and I wish there was a way to lower the difficulty. On the other hand, I agree that the first game was a walk in the park compared to this one.
vampire might be the best for me, wow I guess everyone has a different favorite relic. I kept using vampire so much I got used to it, I even use the time limit rune on it so I can kill as fast as I can and also participate in the secret levels for waves of monsters to get extra kill for stat
vampire perk its the most harder to use but also the most OP if you get the correct shrines and upgraded weapons like the upped crimson blade or skull stick
If you've gotten the best ending in Spelunky 1, it probably took you longer there than here because the skills and knowledge from Spelunky 1 carried over into this game.
This game is pretty fu king bad, some textures are pretty fu king bad and the overall game is just pretty fu king stupid. Some enemies are way too fast, they "sense" or feel you even through the wall (just like on Digital Devolver shitty games), and the worst is not dying, but dying to bullshit bullshit. It's not worse than the first iteration, but still pretty fu king horrible.

People are arguing over Windows 7 vs Windows 10, but real problem is the developer. This is a friggin basic 2D platformer (with mild graphical effects) and no business needing a bleeding-edge super-computer gaming-rig to run. It's just poorly made and not optimized at all. There are plenty of people on the Steam boards who have Windows 10 and still can't play it. 🙄
It doesn't support win32 and Microsoft is slowly fading that out too so no reason to support win32. Use windows 10 64bit or big F. Expect chrome to stop working in a few years.
I agree with Jean, there is almost no reason to stick with 7 as 10 is free and anything you don't like can be removed with ease. The file seems legit btw.
I cannot for the life of me even begin to fathom why anyone with half of a brain in their head would still be using Windows 7. Windows 8 and all versions of Windows 10 are much better as operating systems.

And I don't have any special software installed to enable me to do so. A good majority of the games I play come from this site and they work just fine without any complicated processes to go through in order to get them to work. the game doesnt work, tried extracting it and running spel2 but is gives me an error message that says: VCRUNTIME140_1.dll not found. does anyone have this issue as well ? EDIT: i managed to fix the issue, i just had to download the missing dll file and place it in the game's folder

The rationale behind this is that we're a small team with limited resources and can't provide official support for every single setup at launch. Since official steam stats point out that ~8% of Windows users on Steam use Windows 7/8/8.1 we decided to focus on the 92% at launch.
This will be revised in the future but right now we're focusing on polishing and even though some team members play Spelunky 2 on Windows 7 on daily basis and it works right now out of the box we don't want to take the risk to state we support something without having the game go through the full Quality Assurance process. So sounds like later versions might start supporting windows 7.
