I wonder if my Sega Saturn still works. I remember killing so much time with this, Astal, Blast Chamber, and NiGHTS. I didn't find it a bad system. Just...easily pirated...much like the ...Dreamcast.
Damn, no wonder they turned 3rd party.

Eh, yes the piracy was the death of the Dreamcast and so SEGA, but the one intentionally promoted by the infamous playstation manager, even Konami and Capcom nearly bankrupt with all the sales succes they had, they . The Sony senior chief managers made a public apology for that(coupled with the planned absolescence) and if you know well Japan culture you can imagine how bad and serious is admitting their fault for them.

Tsss just a rip off of this game on the original Xbox, what a low tier trash quality idea. SHould be sued to make a rip off and a copy of an existing game, just because it's 20 year old ain't mean you can
Scammer copy

It looks like the art is "drawn" or painted in those screenshots.

Well you say that cause you're looking at still images, it's different with movement. But hey that's how much the graphics improved from the original version. Now if only they'd remaster PZ Saga...

Quick warning: This game has NO in game v-sync option so make sure to force v-sync on in your board's control panel or else the game will suffer from A LOT of screen tearing

Yes, it was released on gog a few days ago. It contains Metal Gear, Metal Gear Solid and Metal Gear Solid 2 Substance. However they are just the old ports of the games so you NEED the fan patches

it's basically the start of 3d scrolling shooters before starfox 64, or anything else like that
various games basically copied this games shooting style.
sonic adventure 1's plane stages are basically using panzer's lock-on system, bayonetta also used it for the flying stages, pretty sure kingdom hearts space stages were prob made in reference to this game

It's possible. I'm not sure, but I think it's the first 3D Shmup I played. Before that, there was Galaxy Force II(2D/fake 3D), which was incredible. And before that, of course, Space Harrier II. At least for me, Panzer Dragoon was revolutionary. We didn't have that many games, back then. It was awaited almost like the messiah on Saturn.
There's something magical about the graphic style, although some people will hate it, of course.(Moebius and Miyazaki style) And back then, it was definitely one of the prettiest games ever made. Now, when I see Sega Saturn screenshots, it looks horribly outdated, but they did a great job on this remaster. Go check Steam trailer and user screenshots.
Music is great but not over-the-top or too lyrical, compared to the two other games. It's mostly drums and tribal rhythms, "ethnic" instruments which contribute to create an exotic atmosphere. I love it, and I even have the OST on my PC. ha ha
Gameplay is top-notch(sorry, I'm bad at explaining in details why lol), it feels like a good old arcade game(SEGA was the king of arcade back then, even more than SNK), and according to most reviews, this version is even better. It's simply one of the most satisfying shooters ever made, but you have to try it to see how you feel about it. Some people hate that it feels too much like a "rail shooter", for example.
Everybody will tell you that this is the weakest of the trilogy, so I REALLY hope they intend to remake the two other games as well. (the third one plays like a RPG and is considered as the best in the series, but although I love RPGs, I think that shmup gameplay is better in the world of Panzer Dragoon.)
I haven't tried it yet, though! I don't even know if we have 60FPS! Obviously, we should, right? And that will be a huge difference, because the original game had frame-rate issues which ruined a few sequences. So, I can't wait to see this!
There's a great detailed review about it on hardcoregaming101, one of my favorite gaming websites : http://www.hardcoregaming101.net/panzer-dragoon/
Edit : On a side note, this is NOT my favorite shmup ever, though. I'm a CAVE shmup addict and I think nothing will ever beat them. All of the Dodonpachi games, Mushihimesama, Progear, Espgaluda, etc. But still a must-have for any shmup fan!

Thanks for the answer. It definitely has the charm that I associate with video games, a charm that I think only indie games can replicate these days. VR is probably the closest ppl will get to the feeling that ppl had back in the day when 3D games were mindblowing.
