So, about "multiplayer" or "local co-op" YES, it does (somehow). for "local" you need at least 1 controller (it could be a ps2,ps3 or whatever controller you have, if you dont have an xbox controller you gonna need to emulate one, but if you DO have one, then you can skip some of the following steps...) here's a quick guide of how to emulate a non xbox controller; http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1847904 (not mine of course). also you'll need to open the console for almost everything that's on the guide, in case you dont have it, just open your portal game (The LAUNCHER.exe) go to settings --> keyboard settings --> enable developer console. and then press "´" also the guide explains how to enter a map playing local multiplayer with the console. so if you have 1 or 2 xbox controllers and still can't play just by pressing "X" on the "local-coop" screen, then follow the steps on the guide and you'll be good to go.(the same applies of course, for non xbox controllers). It may not be very accurrated what I just write right above this, so you may want to see other tutorials from youtube or do some serching on the internet. also a quick note; playing "local" using the command "ss_map" will make every test chamber "complete" and there's no way to change it. hope that helps too. :P
Check you router it might have a list of games that it can work with. Or it might let port forwarding in all games, as for the hamachi thing, It showed.
'Kay, so... if you've got the following problems/errors follow my instructions; If the LAUNCHER.exe or portal2.exe Open and inmediatley crashes then; Move the game to another drive, likely the "C" one (because most of the setting on the "SmartSteamEmu.ini" file has that directory.), then open the "SmartSteamEmu.ini" file and change everything that's wrong with it (like the game directory path, you'll se what I mean). And if your having an error message saying that the "AppId is 0." kinda thing, then look on the "SmartSteamEmu.ini" file, Its completely broken (Seriously, it is.), because that "SmartSteamEmu.ini" File it's meant to be for playing "age of empires" but can be used for other games IF you change some specific things from it, that's the reason why your game isn't working at all, the "SmartSteamEmu" file its literally broken because it's not designed for playing portal 2 at all. Hope that helps n.n
I have all of the specs required in order to play this game. I load up the game, and the game freezes on a black screen. I try task manager, but it won't show up on my screen. Do I just wait and let it figure out that it's not responding, or do I do something else?

Just look for the Config file(ini) "SmartSteamEmu"(in my case) or "SmartSteamEmu.ini" (in the main folder!) Scroll down a bit till you can see the Target Options. Now u will probably see there is a wrong File Path (as it was in my case) just fix it wherever your Folder is and than save the changes and restart the "LAUNCHER.exe" easy af bois hf

We just updated this game to lastest version (19/03/2017). If you got problems in previous version. You should download again this version, and start game from "LAUNCHER.exe". Enjoy ;)
Yes, it's broken. Tried a variety of methods to get it to run - also getting an older (close to Oct. date as possible) dlls to make both lights go green and that still fails. Yanking another repack.... which this is as well. Not really IGG's fault. Bad repack.

ABOUT THE ISSUE BELOW : If any of this works please reply to this comment.. 1)Run as administrator ! 2)Move the game from the drive it is on to the other drives and try it , for example if your game is installed on C: move it to drive D: or E: or any other combinations .. Whatever.. 3) @vietphap123:disqus A lot of people on Steam fixed this by checking file integrity which makes me think this crack needs an update, but still its just a simple crash so it might be different solutions to everyone, anyways I think you should check it out and see.....

and i tried to open via smartsteamemu launcher, it wont open not even the valve intro. but i opened the other one Portal2.exe it can reach to the loading screen of P2.
for me nothing new the same error. if u somehow end up with playing this game i would be glade if u write what u done to start this game. For now download portal 2 without dlc in this site too
Ok... so I install the game (without the additional program) and i fix it putting the steam_app.dll and steam_app64.dll downloaded new, i can run the game, but, when I try to start the story mode it crashes can anyone help me? [edit] (sorry if my english is bad ;-;)
need help. if i open it with smartsteamemu it closes instantly(so fast it only flashes black and then go's back to desktop) and if i open it with the exe it gets to the portal loading screen and then closes. what am i to do? what i already tried. -run both in admin mode and both with steam open and closed. -i had steam open when i installed it and launched it the first time update still have not found a fix but saw a error when in the smartsteamemu game settings saying that the steam_api.dll failed (not original). maby this will help someone smart fix the issue
i have the same issue, but i got past the steam_api.dll. I just went to a website and downloaded it, then put into the (bin) file. It said it was verified/original, but it still didnt work. Do you think that maybe you need it from the game itself?
I tried to do the same but can't find a dl for it that works. If you don't mind trying to find the link i can maybe make some progress in making it work.

Yeah sadly it doesn't help but at least we have gotten rid of one issue. I also noticed next to the Steam.api.dll there was something called steam64 dll. I tried downloading it but it didn't help at all.....
So it played just fine after I finished installing it and I simply clicked "launch" from the installation menu. Now, when I try to play it from either the Portal2.exe or the Launcher.exe, it doesn't work. SmartSteamLoader doesn't work either, it brings up an error message saying that the AppId is 0. The AppId is not 0, I found otherwise in a .ini file just above SmartSteamLoader. Anyone know what's going on and/or have a fix?
Sorry for the late reply. After you downloaded all the parts just extract them using WinZip, make sure you extract the first part first (I usually extract them all at the same time). After that just go to the place you extracted the parts to. Sometimes, the game requires a crack to run, simply copy the contents inside the crack folder to the main game install directory. If there isn't a crack folder just install/run the game. But why the heck am I telling you this, there's a video tutorial just there... lel :P
I have a question, do I need to download all the parts in order for them to work? Because I'm not looking forward to having to wait 12 hours to play Portal 2.
