And once again, for the 1000th time this month, a developer who uses 8-bit music in a game with 16-bit graphics...🤦
Please somebody informs Gen Z developers that in the 90s, we had the legendary FM synthesis on Megadrive, samples on Neo-Geo and SNES, Roland/Korg synths to make great music on PSX and Sega Saturn (and all of these are now available as VST), and certainly not annoying 8-bit CHEAPtunes.
Besides this minor annoyance, the game is actually pretty good.
Intuitive and simple controls (classic metroidvania), gorgeous graphics imho, and big map to explore and lots of stuff to unlock. As other people say in the comments, nothing revolutionary but it works very well.
If you're allergic to 8-bit music like me, just turn it off and play some good old Snes RPG music instead, like Secret of Mana, Seiken Densetsu 3, Breath of Fire 2, etc. It goes well with the style of this game.
7/10

Stop calling things 8-bit or 16-bit, you clearly have no idea what you're talking about; you sound like an ignorant brat with no real criticisms.
If you knew what you were talking about, you could state something such as "The music heavily imitates the typical sound of the NES, which is a tired cliche, especially considering the graphics fall more in line with the SNES".
Instead of an intelligent response like that, you're basically stating "ow square and saw waves in any capacity hurt my ears!!!!!1 pls gib redbook audio soundtrakk" not realizing the "legendary" Megadrive had 3 channels of square waves that came straight off of the Master System, which is obviously "8-bit" to you.

So if a game isn't 8-bit, it can't use chiptunes? Fuck off lol

8-bit Nes or Gameboy sounds like shit, period. Unless you were born in the 80s and feel very nostalgic for your Nes, I don't see how it's possible to appreciate this.
The music we got on 16-bit consoles was infinitely superior.
Secondly, everybody does that. Why?
Why not making Snes-like music? What is so hard about it?
In this game, the sound is so bad that it's better to completely turn it off and I play some old Snes RPG music instead, it's 200% better.

A decent metroidvania game, even if the graphic and gameplay aren't that new, I'd still recommend you to get it.
Also, I'd recommend you to check out its prequel "Alwa's Awakening" so the story would make more sense :)

i feel like the art isn't as good as it could be. the art looks like frogatto before it got a facelift. that game's been in development for over a decade, but at least they're taking their time and refreshing the art every now and again. in comparison, this game probably went with the first iteration of the pixel art and was like 'good enough for me'.
it plays like a typical average metroidvania, nothing to set it apart or excite the senses. but still worth grabbin

Huh I remember playing Alwa's Awakening. In the ending Alwa's awake in the same game but with 16/bits. alwa's Legacy is the same game but with another graphic?

Another shitty comment without any idea for itself lol.
Relax man, what's wrong with playing similar games? There're countless other games you can be playing instead of just posting trash. EVERYTHING you play doesn't need to have new idea all the time to be fun, I for one can play metroidvanias all the time as long as it's not rougelike/lite.

Hollow Knight has nothing new in terms of its metroidvania mechanic, and hell, it's one of the best metroidvanias out there.
