'crack.exe' and 'RORcrack.exe' don't run due to incompatibility issue - I've tried running in compatibility mode for Windows 95 etc, it still doesn't work. Also, base game requires CD to be inserted in order to play. Here's how I solved all of this: In 'Setup Instructions README.txt', ignore 4th step. Download this http://www.gamepatchplanet.com/game/download-gpf.php?file=AGE.OF.EMPIRES.GOLD.EDITION.V1.0.NO.CD.PATCH.EXE.ENG.BY.RADiATiON.7z (as of 06 Dec 2021, Password: gamepatchplanet). After download, extract file then copy and paste both EXEs to game directory (overwrite if prompted). Now continue from Patch step in 'Setup Instructions README.txt'.
If the download is stuck at 100% try this After you mount the mdf file, go inside the file and set the setup to compatibility windows 95 then run the setup as usual Well for me it worked.
Guys. I made a little guide for you noobs who don't get how to install this.
You must have Daemon Tools or another ISO reader program which can open and read the MDF. format. You can find several cracks for the software.
When you open the file you must right click the file "AOESETUP.EXE" and then you have to click on the last button down "options" or something like that (I have german pc sorry for that) and then you have to go to compatibilities and make a cross on "start as administrator" and on start program with Windows 95.
Install the game as FULL (255MB) not the lower one with 100MB. Edit: 4. You must have the ISO still mounted. The game will then detect the game and will think of it as a virtual drive (you don't have to insert the CD then).
