I feel you lol. I've spent like 130 hours into the game up until my friend told me that i'm literally missing almost 40% of the gameplay because i dont have any of the DLC. Guess im going to have to play the pirated version until i can save up for all the DLCs or until it goes to a huge sale.
Guys, if you're getting database migration error in launcher uninstall the game, delete the Hearts of Iron IV folder in Documents/Paradox Interactive and reinstall the game, then go into launcher_settings.json in the folder where you installed the game and change where it says distplatform: "steam" to "pdx".
If you're having problems with mod installation do it manually by putting the folder and .mod file of the mod you're installing in Documents/Paradox Interactive/Hearts of Iron IV/mod and copying the folder of the mod you're installing to Documents/Paradox Interactive/Hearts of Iron IV/workshop/content/211990. You also have to change the path at the bottom of the .mod file to "C:/Users/{user name here}/Documents/Paradox Interactive/Hearts of Iron IV/workshop/content/281990/{mod id here}". Mod id can be checked in descriptor.mod file in the mod's folder itself as remote_file_id. After this rename the mod's folder in Hearts of Iron IV/mod and Hearts of Iron IV/workshop/content/211990 to the mod's ID if it isn't already. If you don't have the mod and workshop/content/211990 folders just make them.

Edit: If this doesn't work then go into the launcher settings in the launcher (bottom left) and turn on receive beta versions of the launcher, after which run through the process from the very start.

Can someone help to install mods? the mod did appear in the launcher, i put it in a playset, and enable it. But smh when i start the game, it loads the vanilla one instead of the modded one. Adding to this, you can absolutely 100% ditch the launcher, which will only annoy you as you play a cracked game.
To enable/disable mods and DLC, use the dlc_load.json file in the documents directory of the game. If it doesn't exist, just create it and format it as such

Guys If you have no DLC active go to your Paradox Interactive Folder (usually at ur document) and delete it if you have the last 1.12.14 delete that also
Because you still not crack it before start game. After install, you must open .iso file, you will see "RUNE" folder, copy all files in that folder and paste to your game's dir, enjoy ;)

Got an issue with the game, when I research better weaponry and start a production line with them, all of the new guns are converted instantly to the ones I started with in 1936. This affects the AI too.

Manually drag and drop into the game file downside you can only have 1 mod only because if you try add other and that will rewrite something causing it to break. It has same principle as Stellaris mostly I only making mod idea not hard to do you just need making new Decisions so AI won't use them and Idea for that effect.

Some errors are present in the map definition and have been logged to error.log
You might want to disable your mods and try again. If that fails, check the integrity of game files inside steam. If that fails, try clearing your user directory from the launcher.
This error happens because of failed file pathing, as in, your game fails to find the map files and as such fails to load and crashes
This happened to me a lot when trying to load Kaiserreich. I fixed it however. The problem was the pathing indeed. Go to the .mod descriptor file and edit it. This editing is way more easy when using a tool such as notepad+++
Look for the path, if it isn't there, put it yourself:
This is my path for kaiserreich: path="C:/Users/Asus/Documents/Paradox Interactive/Hearts of Iron IV/mod/kaiserreich"
One major error is the stripes. You may copy a path and your computer will put it with \ stripes, but this way, it won't be understood as a correct path by the mod, so make sure your path has / stripes, NOT \
Secondly, make sure the path is formated accordingly with the example, for example, it is started and ended with inverted commas "..."
Also makes sure the end of the path is the same name as your mod's FOULDER name, naming it something simple helps a ton.
This should fix the issue, it did for me, if it doesn't or you need help in the way feel free to ask, although I am not the sharpest when it comes to modding I can get around simple issues such as these.
Hi, i've downloaded the HOI4 file games and first tried to play kaiserreich. I played it well with no troubles but, when i tried to install Millenium Dawn mod it started to answer me with the map load error. I tried to reinstall the mod but nothing, and after i tried to launch the game in debug mod and actually the map was a mess. After all i seen your comment and i tried to fix it but in the descriptor.mod file theh slashes and the commaas were fine. How i can fix it? The Millenium Dawn version is the latest that support 1.11.* and the game version is the 1.11.12 as the files downloaded here

Paste the zip file there
Extract file. Rename extracted folder with a more simple name if need be.
Open folder and take the .mod file out of said folder into the mods folder
Forgot to tell ya, sorry, you have to install a text editing tool. I highly recommend notepad++, it makes the experience way easier. Otherwise you can use the built-in windows notepad app...but it is hell working with it when it comes to code chains.
Open the .mod file with notepad++ (Or a similar tool). Look for path. Where it says path, insert the exact file path that heads to the certain mod's folder. Example: C:\Users\Asus\Documents\Paradox Interactive\Hearts of Iron IV\mod\kaiserreich
This is my path to my kaiserreich folder.
The line in the file will thus be path="C:/Users/Asus/Documents/Paradox Interactive/Hearts of Iron IV/mod/kaiserreich"
Be careful: You HAVE to use /, NOT . Using \ will break the pathing.

You are all set! Now! You don't have a launcher! How do you load your mod in??? In one easy solution. Exit the mods folder and go back to the Hoi4 documents folder.
You should see dlc_load.json file. If you don't, create a text file with the exact name (But remember, it will be created as dlc_load.txt, you have to change it to dlc_load.json)

You must put the path to the .mod folder between quotes and seperate every mod with a comma.
And you're done! You are ready to play modded HOI4. But remember, issues may arise from doing this wrong, even the tiniest mistake can ruin the whole process, I remember Kaiserreich crashing before loading map files because of a wrong pathing (I put \ instead of /)
Hello everyone, i have a problem thats quite anoying, the file steam_api64.dll is messing with me, the one that comes with the instalation, doesnt have any DLCs in it, online works fine, and steam overlay works just as expected. But if I want to play with all the content enabled i have to use the CODEX steam_api64.dll, which renders me unable to play online, and steam overlay and notification that i'm playing stops working (im mentioning steam and online playing together because i suppose that they are related in some way). So at first if dlcs didnt work you have to reinstal the game and in codex installer you have to apply the latest option something like apply codex in your files ar something like that. And enjoy it. Btw Im not so good at english soo i apologize for all my mistakes.
Uninstall and redownload it Make sure that u download the codex directory in it Then when it finished u wil go to the place where u downloaded it and boot it up from there

if you want to add mods, download and activated the mod from Original HOI4 Steam, and then playing from the cracked one!
there should a .txt file that decides what the game uses for mods, its default is "steam" but you can change it to "pdx", after youve done that you create a mod using the launcher and replace it with a mod downloaded from steam, there should be yt videos on it

Play the game manually, don't use the launcher
Soif you want to change mods you have to manually open dlc_load.json everytime you want to change the mods. So i would recommend putting a desktop shortcut.
On the drive you mounted your .iso file (same place where setup.exe was) to there is a folder called "CODEX". Copy the contents of the folder (should be three files containing "steam" in their name) to the install directory (you can access this directory easily by right-click on the desktop shortcut > Open file location).
Please show me picture of the .mod file of the mod. Most likely the path is incorrect.
In other advice, I'd recommend downloading all mods you can find from Skymods. If unavailable, use some sort of Steam Workshop Downloader service. It makes the process relatively straightforward, with minor path tweaking at most.
Guys to play with mods there is an easy fix that I used for EU4 as well: – Go to your hoi4 install folder and edit the “launcher-settings.json” file with a text editor. – In the third line ” distPlatform”: “steam”, replace steam with pdx. – To play you now need to run the dowser.exe file (run as admin) and you’re good to go – If mod doesnt work change the path of the descriptor path ie: Paradox Interactive/Hearts of Iron IV/mod/123456" (change it to the highlighted part)

in donwloaded file you should have codex and setup file, you open the codex file and copy them, later just paste these files into game file it should ask you if you want to replace files and thats all what you must do

tip for using mods: you can subscribe to mods from the official paradox mods site, you just need to make an account, log in through the browser and launcher, add the launcher as a non-steam game, start the launcher and pick which mods you want to enable, then you start the game by using it's exe and that's pretty much how you get mods
hi, it seems like this works, because the mod is enabled (Kaiserreich here) and it downloaded normally by subscribing, but when i enter the game, the mod doesn't show up and it's a normal, vanilla version of the game. Do you know what can i do?

Hi, i'm having trouble with launching the game. I already changed file .json to "pdx" and updated my drivers, direct x, and launched game from browser. But when i get into launcher and i try to launch game, game dont launch and red triangle (warning) appear next to play button with text on it: Launching game failed. I dont use any mods, antivirus didnt take anything away from game files, and i run dowser in administration mode. Hoi4.exe dont work. Does have anybody any solution to this?

okay, i found something. I had the game in folder which doesnt supported non-english words. Then i putted it into (whole game) another folder which supported english words. What i mean is that if you have the in folder which path is for example -> D/folder(in which is ě,š,č,ř,ž, or any other character like !,§,?, etc.) --> then Dowser cannot find the hoi4.exe file. Its dumb but it is what it is. If you have dowser in (again example)-> D/downloads/Games --> then that game should be running. So try it, and tell me if that worked for you, also didnt use any mods and did -> Clear User Directory . I hope this will work for you friend!

i just found in in one of the game folder. I dont remember its name but it said that game was launched from nonexisting folder in my PC, so i move it and it change it. Not a problem! We are family, We are gamers!
Was able to change language via dowser.exe and/or bootstrapper in the game folder. Simply use the globus in the upper right corner of the launcher to change language, then start.
I don't know if you will read this, but actually you just need to run the "dowser.exe" file then scroll down in the launcher an you will have the option to change the language. then click on "save" (if there is no "save" button then just quit the launcher) and launch hoi4.exe. there you are.

For those asking, here's how to install mods: Open your Hoi4 folder and look for the .json file launcher-settings.json. Right click on it and select edit with Notepad/Notepad++. Now look for "distPlatform" : "steam" (It should be the third line). Replace "steam" with "pdx". Next, look for the executable called dowser.exe and run it as an administrator. This is the Paradox Launcher where you'll be able to browse for mods. In case you do not find a mod here on their platform, go to skymods and download them from there. To install a mod manually, go into your Documents folder, then Paradox Interactive, then Hearts of Iron 4. Manually create a folder named mod. Mods from the skymods website should come with a folder that has a file inside named descriptor.mod.. Take the file out of the downloaded mod folder and give both the folder and the descriptor.mod file the same name (except that the file will have the extension .mod). Right click on the .mod file and click edit with Notepad/Notepad++. Look for remote _file_id= "(whatever is in quotations)" Replace the name in quotations with the name you gave both the mod folder and the descriptor.mod file (so that the file knows where to do its thing). If there is a line starting with the word archive, replace the word with path. If there is no line at all starting with either archive or path, manually create one yourself that looks something like this: path="C/Users/(fill this in with the folder you have your Documents folder in)/Documents/Paradox Interactive/Hearts of Iron IV/mod/(fill this in with the name you gave both your mod folder and your descriptor.mod file) Reply if you have any issues with the mod starting. I recommend downloading a mod from the Paradox Launcher first (any random mod) and trying to see how those files behave before trying to manually download a mod from skymods.

I don't know why ... but when I try to run the game from the download folder, it opens, but anywhere else, like the desktop, I get the error (0xc0000142). for some reason, other games have the same error, but when I move the game folder to the download folder, it just starts working, so it could be a problem on my computer. well, until now there was no big problem, just needed to create a shortcut, nothing much, but then I tried to play with mods ... it didn't work because for some reason if the game and the launcer are inside the download folder, they can't access the documents folder where the mods are, so I can't play with the mods, is there any way to fix this? like, is it possible to run correctly anywhere other than the download folder?
Well am not sure exactly but as long as you can play Road to 56 mod you dont really need to care about base game since all that mod does is enhance everything

Am not sure myself about the DLC problem but i guess that crack just cant bypass some stuff. As for the failed launch just launch it using the .exe application like any other game instead of drowser. You should only use drowser to activate and deactivate mods.
Well am not exactly a tech wizard but i would advise: a) a good old restart/reinstall b) run as administrator c) reinstall DirectX if none of those work you could try doing some research on the error and what could cause it and maybe ya find something. Cheers!

I figured it out If anyone is having something similiar make sure to install the paradox launcher to the same directory where the Hearts of Iron 4 exe is and change the "steam" into "pdx" in the launcher settings.json
It might be some stupid... I alredy changed "steam" to "pdx" on "Launcher-settings.json" but i still get the error "(0xc0000142)" when i try running "hoi4.exe" what should i do?
I might be blind or plain stupid, is this the latest update? Because i don't know if this is 1.9.3 or 1.10 cause it's not written anywhere than the update title, im not asking much just asking for confirmation.

i downloaded hearts of iron 4. I crash when i launch the game. When i launch the launcher i get "acces error to game data - We don't have read/write acces to the directory with game data. Please contact support.". I have already reëxtracted, i have tried deleting the documents/paradox/hearts of iron file. I have made an exception with my anti virus. I also believe the same thing has happend with my crusader kings III crack, but im not sure as it was a month ago....
Thats what im telling you, the launcher is extremely unreliable in many circumstances, ESPECIALLY on cracked games. So thats why rather then wasting hours trying to fix the errors associated with mods; i.e Failed to load map, DLC not confirmed, game freezes and so forth. Just use the simple yet extremely reliable technique i used, the only error you can get is when the mod doesn't support 1.9* or 1.10*

Play the game manually, don't use the launcher So if you want to change mods you have to manually open dlc_load.json everytime you want to change the mods. So i would recommend putting a desktop shortcut.
Game blatantly crashes at the end of the loading screen. It crashes to desktop. This only happens when mods are on.(this is a fact, i have tried road to 56, TNO and Kaiserreich and they have all crashed at some point before giving me control of the country. Someone please help.
The current version of the game are not supported with the up and date mod that requires the latest update of hearts of iron Version 1.10.1 are outdated so I may suggest getting a mod that can play any latest abd oldest version of game
When i launch HOI4.exe it immediately shows a black screen and then crashes. I looked into the error logs, and found the following: "[21:28:40][dlc.cpp:1293]: Could not find item in store backend.". How do i solve this?
Change the game to window mode to playable, almost every paradox game that i crack have this problem only playable in window mode, they usually have backscreen in full screen mode, and this is the only solution I found to solve this problem.

Seems like I still can't transfer ships, whenever I go to fleet management, and try to drag ships to other fleets, the "Select ships to transfer" tab shows up for 1 millisecond and then disappears, can't transfer ships after the "La resistance" update, so I've been playing the old Man the Guns version. Any ways to fix the fleet management?

For some reason I can't start HOI4 through the launcher because of this error. I want to play HOI4 with mods enabled but because of this error I can't do it. Could anyone please help and explain how I can fix this error?
You can just go to the mods section in the launcher, add them to the playset, select all the mods you want then click on play(no idea if u-you need to do it but i do it just in case) and then exit out of the launcher. then launch hoi4 with the application and normally the mods will be active
Friendly Reminders : If your game won't start because a DLL is missing, try seeing the Windows Defender settings to see if Windows marked the DLLs as a virus (note, they aren't actually viruses, Windows just thinks they are), if it has marked it as such, make sure that Windows Defender allows the file. Also make sure that you have the correct APIs installed, these include the latest DirectX version (that your PC can support), Java, .NET Frameworks, C++ frameworks, etc. Also make sure that you are certain your PC will do fine on the game you are downloading, as sometimes the IGG specifications are either incorrect or not listed at all. Had the same problem. For mE it got fixed after updating DirectX runtimr (which became another can of worms by itself). Links for runtime: online installer https://www.microsoft.com/en-US/download/details.aspx?id=35 (which didn't work for me for some .cab file issue) offline installer: https://www.directx.com.es/download/ (in Spanish since I couldn't find it in english without a crapton of adware as a side dish, or with a bandwith better than what you could find in Antartica). How to get rid of error error 0xc0000142? I get it when clicking on hoi4.exe. I can't run it by drowser either. I changed launcher-settings.json from steam to gog and it still persist.
Can someone help me. I tried downloading Old world blues from here: https://top-mods.com/mods/hoi-4/alternative-history/169-old-world-blues.htm But I'm not sure how to get the mod running. I tried going to mod tools in the launcher, creating a new mod and transferring the Old world blues mod into the mod folder created, but i just get this message.
To launch the launcher you must run as administrator doxser.exe in the game folder after you must run the .exe named bootstraperv2 that will launch the launcher with the launcher you can selecte the mods and the dlc you want but not launch the game also after you choose you dlc and mods click on play and shut down the launcher and use hoi4.exe after wait and enjoy the game.
I think you can t you must download the new complete version and reinstall it but you data will be save because there are stocked in a other file that the game

Hello I have the same problem as you, when I searched on the web how to solve it I found that this problem come when the mod is outdated and the map cannot be formed because she is changed.
This doesn't work for cracked, just for Steam version. Reason is it only provides DLC, not the patch. Steam auto-updates games you bought from them, whereas for this to work for cracked version you would need to have 1.10 already, which I haven't seen cracked yet.

First error is most likely associated with mistakes in .mod file, or if descriptor.mod was pasted to game directory without replacing "archive" line with "path" line. However I still have to know what is the site you downloaded it from. I am afraid I am not experienced enough to help with error no. 2, but if you can provide me with exact text of the error there might be something I could work out. Hello and thanks for the reply. So, here are the instructions to fix your problem (hopefully). Let me know if it persists.
I presume you are using WinRar to extract your files. Extract .zip file you downloaded to the folder. Rename the folder "Kaiserreich" (without quotation marks) - very important.
Inside of the folder is descriptor.mod. Copy & open the copy.
Almost at the bottom you will see the line saying "path="C:/Users/gabri/Documents/Paradox Interactive/Hearts of Iron IV/mod/Kaiserreich". Change "gabri" to your username (found at C:/Users), or better yet, delete everything up to mod/Kaiserreich, making it look like "path="mod/Kaiserreich". Save the changes and exit the file. OPTIONAL: Rename "descriptor - Copy" to "Kaiserreich" or sometimes like that for easier recognition which mod is the file linked to.
Copy your copied descriptor to mod folder in My Documents/Paradox Interactive/Hearts of Iron IV/mod.
Copy "Kaiserreich" folder to the same folder. Enjoy! For the second error, I am not 100% sure this will help. Do not launch HOI4 from dowser.exe. Open dowser.exe to check mods, close it and run the game from hoi4.exe.

Im having trouble with launching. I have no mods enabled, i run Hoi4 and dowser as administrators but i keep getting this error message. I have no idea what i did wrong? Crack is already applied to game folder. I didnt have any issues with older version 1.9.0 but i decided to go for newer version.
Go to Map sub directory. You will find some excel files. The one that has the suffix .old has to be renamed. Delete the .old suffix (leave the rest of the name as it is) and launch the game from the hoi4.exe Dowser will probably work if you meddle with the steamapi files-there are many tutorials available online.

Try turning off all mods and launching vanilla, if that doesn't work, go to the documents, HoI4 folder and search settings.txt, find "draw_terrain" and change it so it goes like this "draw_terrain=yes". Save and launch again.
I can't edit the file "launcher-settings.json" to fix the launcher. When I open it with notepad and change the "steam" to "pdx" (or "gog"), it tries to save as a new file but it doens't allow me to replace the old one. With thai being said, I've done this same process with CK3 and it worked just fine. Also, I can play the game just fine, but wanted to try some mods so I had to investigate this. Anyone knows how to solve it?

Ok so i have been play hoi4 for a while now even had a mod or two running but now when i try and install millennium dawn mod it just crashes on launch is there a way to fix this or is it a lost cause

It is synchronised with workshop so most mods is up to date, and files are setup in a way that requires only pasting the files into the respected folder, although few mods are locked by author (Kaiserreich), but you can use the workshop downloader and forge .mod file by copying, renaming and changing few values if you have one from site above. Beware, if you're using mod for newer version of HoI, it can also crash (conversion mods or focus trees).

You just have to go to your windows security, virus & threat protection then under current threaths you wil see allowed threats. Click it and you'll see the missing file that has been blocked. Allow it and done! If it still doesn't work you just have to update / install your Direct X because all games requires it to run

Use dowser.exe. it automatically install and execute latest launcher find launcher-settings.json ,change "distPlatform": "steam" into "distPlatform": "gog" it will fix DLC ,steam api error in mod file, move zip file(ex: 820260968_the_road_to_56 .zip) to username/Documents/Paradox Interactive/Hearts of Iron IV/mod open zip file and extract descriptor.mod to mod/ and rename it ex) 820260968.mod add this line path="mod/[zip file name]" ex) path="mod/820260968_the_road_to_56" no more unwanted vanilla if mod(or dlc)have an error, move it to another location, launch game, put it back sorry bad english
Go into the properties of the file, by right clicking. Then, click the security tab, and click Edit. Then, click on Users (Username here), and click the allow checkbox for Full Control. Then click apply and it should work

Anyone get LocalizedError: Steam reported an unknown error: Couldn't get appID: Steam Api is not initialzied, i did crack everything and the normal game works, just the launcher doesnt want to work.

The DLCs say they need to be verified (I have copied the .dlls over, changed the .json to pdx, and ran the dowser as admin) I have bought the base game on steam so could that be causing the issue?
Does anyone have a problem with fleet management? When I click the navy tab, and try to transfer ships to other fleets, the "select ships to transfer" tab appears for like 1 millisecond and then disappears,I couldn't transfer them...I've tried other versions and they work perfectly fine, but this one seems to be bugged.
Shift + select ships you want to transfer, Shift + right click on fleet you want to transfer to. It's an alternative. It's my third download of it and in all was some kind of bug. Paratroopers crashed the game, captured operatives couldn't be rescued.

Mods not updating? what i do is just copy the cracked files into a safe folder and then verify game cache once that is done i run the launcher to let the mods update then i reapply the crack.
uh oh, nvm i got wrong paste dirrection, but still both road to 56 dont wanna loaded, its written "need 1.91" so i guess 1.91 kinda missing after i unninstal the older version (1.90) and installed straight to 1.93; maybe someone can put the older version link so i can redownload it
Could I get some help with the mods? Whenever I click on the game, it opens straight to the vanilla, and I have no choice of changing the mods or DLC. If someone could assist, I would greatly appreciate it
I think I know how to fix the map loading error . When you create a mod folder for yourself read the path of the original descriptor file of your mod , in my case it was EAW . Find for this exact line in your mod file : path="C:/Users/Utilizator/Documents/Paradox Interactive/Hearts of Iron IV/mod/eaw When you create your mod just use the name of the mod : in this case it is EAW. Copy the descriptor file in the downloaded folder , delete the one the mod creation tool created ( Yes I think this is the most important part ) . I have tried this and it fixed my problem with Equestria At War mod .
When I enter the EAW discord and present them to my problem they slam me with some words that change how I think about the fickin problem :'Do you use a crack version of the game ?'( Yes it is the truth but do you really think that asking that will make people buying the game more ? ) I really felt very bad after hearing that and I've tried my best fixing this problem so that can be a sweet revenge .
Vanilla works without any problems but when I try to start any mod it shows that map error. I've done everything that has been recomended here, disabled Famous Battleships, reinstalled the game and mods, launched with both launcher and shortcut, but nothing works.
What's even more annoying, I have set up mod correctly, when I load up Kaiserreich, I see it's loading screens and quotes below. And at one point during loading it just shows map error as someone has posted below.
Uhh, why is the Famous Battleships DLC corrupted? And if you have problems still after changing "distPlatform": "steam" to "distPlatform": "gog" or "distPlatform": "pdx", just run the dowser as admin.

Is the file size less than 5 MB? Did you get the file directly, or have you used an exe? If the answer to any of the questions is yes, you downloaded an ad. Please try downloading the files again and make sure you get the correct ones.

Hello. I am trying to run by game with the Beautiful States Reborn mod. However, I am getting an error message about the map definition. When I checked the error log, it gave me some statements about ideas with no ledger assigned. Does anyone have a fix to this problem?
I disabled Famous Battleship but it didn't work so I'm not sure what's going on. I'm trying to load Millennium Dawn but it keeps pulling up that 'Failed to load the map' error.

When I try to launch the dowser, it starts some kind of installation. Tried to install multiple times but still cannot get the launcher to start, any solutions? EDIT: OK I actually solved this by installing Net Framework 4.5 Dowser now works.

Read the comments below, there is nothing I can add here that has not been already said in this thread. This version works like a charm. You just have to follow some steps regarding the launcher and the cracks.
I have literally done and tried everything. I have reinstalled the game 3 times but mods just simply dont work. DLC work just fine so i know i have cracked it right but when i try to play with mods the game just launches as vanilla
Ok, if the DLCs are working you did everything right and you are almost there. The problem is the Mod and what's written in the *.mod files. Depending on the place you downloaded the mod from (skymod or steamwks download), it has the correct structure (or not). Basically, mods on Skymod have the correct structure (root is a folder with many numbers and *.mod with the same numbers). If you do not have this structure, you can alway create it. Put both files in your workshop folder (in your documents / paradox etc.) Then copy the some_numbers.mod file to your mod folder. Open it, and change the path so that it links to your workshop folder (something like : /Documents/Paradox Interactive/Hearts of Iron IV/workshop/content/281990/some_numbers/ ) and relaunch the launcher. You should be able to load the mod.
Did that and still the mod doesnt work. Its really weird because in the old launcher i did the same stuff and it worked. I dont know what wrong with the new launcher
It is unclear what "that" is you did. Obviously something has been done wrongly. The new launcher works way differently from the previous one so doing the same is of no use... It is also unclear what you have/see in the launcher... Cannot help you there.
I don't know about hoi4 but for stellaris I delete mod.json file in document/Paradox Interactive/[Game] and maybe gamedata.json too it will recreate the file and reload the mods, I don't really remember if it work but save a backup just in case and try it maybe
I checked the mod's path and it was correct but mods still doesnt work. I have tried everything and i dont know why it doesnt work. It worked in the old launcher but now i cant get it to work
On the ISO,when you mount it, there is a folder, CODEX if I remember correctly.... It contains Steams dll. Just copy them to your game repository, overwritting the previous ones. If you changed the Launcher . json plateform from Steam to pdx it works perfectly. You can load/unload DLCs and Mods just like before.
Is there a way to disable dlcs seperately in the dowser.exe ? Since all the dlcs are being verified and it only works with disable all. Also even then the game would not launch from the dowser so no changes are made even with dlcs disabled.
Hey I've got my launcher working from changing the .json file but I have one issue left, I can't load any mods. It tells me "The path to this mod is invalid and cannot be loaded..." what can I do?
Never mind I fixed it. I edited the .mod file in notepad++ (or notepad) and at the bottom I had to change the user to mine along with the descriptor file in the mod folder. Hope this helps someone.

Since the release of the new launcher back in 1.8 , i can't play with mods anymore. They appear in the launcher, i enable them but the game starts as vanilla. Any ideas?
there should be a dowser.exe in the installation folder, that should bring up the launcher (at least works for eu4 but i havent played cracked hoi in a long time)
check the path in the .mod file that it corresponds to where you placed the mods, i recall i had to change that in order to make the mod work in game or it wouldnt find the files and just load vanilla hoi
when you download a mod (i'm assuming you know how to do that) you get a .zip inside somewhere there's a .mod file where there's a path which is where the mods are usually stored (since for legit users it's always the same) since you are not a legit user you either change the path or put the mod where it should be

Use dowser.exe to use DLC. It's the paradox launcher. But before you launch it, open "launcher-settings.json", find "distPlatform": "steam" and change it to "distPlatform": "pdx". Also let the launcher update itself if you can't use DLC/mods.

You see the select path button? Try installing it somewhere else. for example, create a folder for it on your desktop and install it there. Or you could try to manually create the folder where it originally would install.

Try to play it by open hoi4.exe, not dowser.exe. but if you want to play with mod you can still open dowser to tick the mod after that close it then play with hoi4.exe.
Try to turn off your internet connection. Sometime it make game crack not correctly work. After all its a crack game.
Don't interfere the loading. Like clik the mose while it loading. It may cause crash sometime for me when i play it.
Try to re-install it. But remember to turn off your connection and anti virus. And put the crack file manually.
If you play with mod. Then maybe the mod is the cause for crash due to the mod still not finish correctly maybe.

Do you get any error message? The game works fine for me so all I can do is guess what the problem might be. Someone else here had problems launching the game but fixed it by launching it as administrator, have you tried that already?
Make sure your launcher settings file doesn't have any errors (Mine looks like this: https://pastebin.com/N3ZTFiMk). If there were any errors the launcher should give a general error about failed initialization instead of launching, but just make sure. Like I said the game works fine on my end so I don't know what else I could tell you, maybe reinstall?
This is a problem with Europa universalis. You could try cutting its internet access. Check online how to do it. I think it is in the firewall settings but dont try it alone check a video or you could mess up your computer.
If the error also says that it can't reach steam, you just need to tell it to not use steam as the platform. Open the "launcher-settings.json" file (it's in the same folder as the launcher) in your favorite text editor and change "distPlatform": "steam" to "distPlatform": "pdx"

Had the same problem, found a fix today. Installed it in windows safe mode. then add an exception in windows defender to the game folder and exe file and lastly i disabled rivatuner statistics server.
It was so much simpler when CODEX team crack this game (all of paradox games actually). it's also easy to update when a patch came. I'm sorry if i sounded ungrateful.
from what i know update 1.8 broke the launcher am not sure if this fixed it haven't tried myself but am still rocking 1.7.1 and honestly differences are so small that it doesn't even matter, even if you download mods ya can just trick the game by changing the version of the mod in its description.

Hey guys, for anyone having problems with mods not showing up in the launcher, google for paradoxos mod manager, it's a mod manager for paradox games, you just select the mods you want there, close it, open the launcher and just press play, and the mods you selected will be activated. Enjoy
are your .mod files and folders named as random numbers? if so, you need to put .mod files into the mod folder and the folder (that has the same name as the .mod file) into workshop/content/281990 folder. I'm having problems with installing the mods, I've seen some comments in below and everyhing is correct. My mod folder path is Documents:Paradox Interactive:Hoi4:Mod. But for some reason whenever I add mod folders into it they don't show up in the launcher and I've tried many of them. The mod folder has to be here: C:\Users%USER%\Documents\Paradox Interactive\Hearts of Iron IV\mod If your mod path is correct, Check the read-only option for your .mod files. If neither helped, you can try the following:
Go to "C:\Users%USER%\Documents\Paradox Interactive\Hearts of Iron IV"
Open up "dlc_load.json"
Enter the mod names like this: "enabled_mods": ["mod/MODNAME1.mod","mod/MODNAME2.mod",....
DON'T start the game with dowser.exe, use hoi4.exe instead.

Well i turned off the antivirus and then i installed the game... Maybe you have more than 1 antivirus i'm using Windows Defender so i just turned off that one and then i used Winrar to extract the setup and then i install it... So try first to turn off your antivirus and then extract the rar ok if you do it after, the antivirus might delete the setup or the crack trust me it happened to me so i do it like that and it worked... I hope you can find this useful...

If you see the left window that he is showing, it says at the top , where the directories are, that he has his paradox interactive folder AKA where the hoi4 mod folder is, in the wrong folder. He needs to move that paradox interactive folder from the DATA folder he has it in to the documents folder.
I keep getting told I don't have correct permissions to access the installer, I don't know what's up with that. I can mount the file so as the extract the contents however it ill not let me finish extracting the installer again because of missing permissions. I have also tried launching the installer within the mount however this doesn't seem to help either a message appears saying I don't have correct permission. edt: it doesn't ask for a passwords and I have tried using admin perms
just take the hoodlum file from the folder where the setup file is and move it to the local disk/games/hearts of iron 4 or whatever the path youre downloading the game to is thats how i did it atleast
If the game doesnt start chances are you deleted the crack folder. Your antivirus can do this automatically & it will just look like everything is normal but a file will be missing. Switch off antivirus till after install. If you downloaded this file with antivirus on I can almost guarantee that you deleted the crack. I downloaded the game, switched antivirus off, extract & click installer - works 100% & all DLC is available including the latest
It will always label the crack file as a virus. Thats why we either deactivate the antivirus or simply tell windows defender to ignore when the popup shows. If you dont do this you will delete the crack folder automatically (the reason most of these people in the comments keep saying "wont run" etc - their antivirus deleted the crack

If you're having problems with mod installation do it manually by putting the folder and .mod file of the mod you're installing in Documents/Paradox Interactive/Hearts of Iron IV/mod and copying the folder of the mod you're installing to Documents/Paradox Interactive/Hearts of Iron IV/workshop/content/211990. You also have to change the path at the bottom of the .mod file to "C:/Users/{user name here}/Documents/Paradox Interactive/Hearts of Iron IV/workshop/content/281990/{mod id here}". Mod id can be checked in descriptor.mod file in the mod's folder itself as remote_file_id. After this rename the mod's folder in Hearts of Iron IV/mod and Hearts of Iron IV/workshop/content/211990 to the mod's ID if it isn't already. If you don't have the mod and workshop/content/211990 folders just make them.

go to launcher-settings.json Change distPlatform from "steam" to "gog" instead, but you need to have an online fix file. If it doesn't work, I don't know because I tried and it worked.

Some errors are present in the map definition and have been logged to error.log
You might want to disable your mods and try again.
If that fails, check the integrity of game files inside steam.
If that fails, try clearing your user directory from the launcher.
the only mod i can play is road to 56
This happened to me a lot when trying to load Kaiserreich. I fixed it however. The problem was the pathing indeed. Go to the .mod descriptor file and edit it. This editing is way more easy when using a tool such as notepad+++
Look for the path, if it isn't there, put it yourself:
This is my path for kaiserreich: path="C:/Users/Asus/Documents/Paradox Interactive/Hearts of Iron IV/mod/kaiserreich"
One major error is the stripes. You may copy a path and your computer will put it with \ stripes, but this way, it won't be understood as a correct path by the mod, so make sure your path has / stripes, NOT \
Secondly, make sure the path is formated accordingly with the example, for example, it is started and ended with inverted commas "..."
Also makes sure the end of the path is the same name as your mod's FOULDER name, naming it something simple helps a ton.
This should fix the issue, it did for me, if it doesn't or you need help in the way feel free to ask, although I am not the sharpest when it comes to modding I can get around simple issues such as these.
I played it well with no troubles but, when i tried to install Millenium Dawn mod it started to answer me with the map load error. I tried to reinstall the mod but nothing, and after i tried to launch the game in debug mod and actually the map was a mess. After all i seen your comment and i tried to fix it but in the descriptor.mod file theh slashes and the commaas were fine. How i can fix it?

It's an error concerning DirectX. Go to windows.com and download latest DirectX components.
- Pick a mod on the steam workshop for HOI4
- Head over to https://steamworkshopdownloader.io/
- Copy-paste the link of said mod's steampage
- Download
- Head to documents/Paradox Interactive/Hearts of Iron IV
- Go to mods folder, if it doesn't exist, create it
- Paste the zip file there
- Extract file. Rename extracted folder with a more simple name if need be.
- Open folder and take the .mod file out of said folder into the mods folder
- Forgot to tell ya, sorry, you have to install a text editing tool. I highly recommend notepad++, it makes the experience way easier. Otherwise you can use the built-in windows notepad app...but it is hell working with it when it comes to code chains.
- Open the .mod file with notepad++ (Or a similar tool). Look for path. Where it says path, insert the exact file path that heads to the certain mod's folder. Example: C:\Users\Asus\Documents\Paradox Interactive\Hearts of Iron IV\mod\kaiserreich
This is my path to my kaiserreich folder.The line in the file will thus be
path="C:/Users/Asus/Documents/Paradox Interactive/Hearts of Iron IV/mod/kaiserreich"
Be careful: You HAVE to use /, NOT . Using \ will break the pathing.
12.Change the .mod file name. Example for kaiserreich, it would be kaissereich.mod
- You are all set! Now! You don't have a launcher! How do you load your mod in??? In one easy solution. Exit the mods folder and go back to the Hoi4 documents folder.

You don't actually need a launcher to play the mod. In other advice, I'd recommend downloading all mods you can find from Skymods. If unavailable, use some sort of Steam Workshop Downloader service. It makes the process relatively straightforward, with minor path tweaking at most.

you can subscribe to mods from the official paradox mods site, you just need to make an account, log in through the browser and launcher, add the launcher as a non-steam game, start the launcher and pick which mods you want to enable, then you start the game by using it's exe and that's pretty much how you get mods

If I do this, the game works for me. I can't verify the ownership of the DLCs still, though, so I am not sure if automatic installment of mods would work.
What i mean is that if you have the in folder which path is for example -> D/folder(in which is ě,š,č,ř,ž, or any other character like !,§,?, etc.) --> then Dowser cannot find the hoi4.exe file. Its dumb but it is what it is. If you have dowser in (again example)-> D/downloads/Games --> then that game should be running.
So try it, and tell me if that worked for you, also didnt use any mods and did -> Clear User Directory .

Open your Hoi4 folder and look for the .json file launcher-settings.json. Right click on it and select edit with Notepad/Notepad++. Now look for "distPlatform" : "steam" (It should be the third line). Replace "steam" with "pdx". Next, look for the executable called dowser.exe and run it as an administrator. This is the Paradox Launcher where you'll be able to browse for mods. In case you do not find a mod here on their platform, go to skymods and download them from there.
To install a mod manually, go into your Documents folder, then Paradox Interactive, then Hearts of Iron 4. Manually create a folder named mod. Mods from the skymods website should come with a folder that has a file inside named descriptor.mod.. Take the file out of the downloaded mod folder and give both the folder and the descriptor.mod file the same name (except that the file will have the extension .mod). Right click on the .mod file and click edit with Notepad/Notepad++. Look for remote _file_id= "(whatever is in quotations)"
Replace the name in quotations with the name you gave both the mod folder and the descriptor.mod file (so that the file knows where to do its thing).
If there is a line starting with the word archive, replace the word with path. If there is no line at all starting with either archive or path, manually create one yourself that looks something like this:
path="C/Users/(fill this in with the folder you have your Documents folder in)/Documents/Paradox Interactive/Hearts of Iron IV/mod/(fill this in with the name you gave both your mod folder and your descriptor.mod file)
Reply if you have any issues with the mod starting. I recommend downloading a mod from the Paradox Launcher first (any random mod) and trying to see how those files behave before trying to manually download a mod from skymods.

It crashes to desktop. This only happens when mods are on.(this is a fact, i have tried road to 56, TNO and Kaiserreich and they have all crashed at some point before giving me control of the country.

Version 1.10.1 are outdated so I may suggest getting a mod that can play any latest abd oldest version of game
1- Open Folder of game and find ''launcher-settings.json'' next open as this with text document, after that find steam (or gog) change to pdx.
2- If you have dll error you must get latest versions of DirectX (version that your PC can support), Java, .NET Frameworks, C++ frameworks. after be sure about windows defender dosen't block hoi4.exe (if you don't know how to do that just google it or look youtube)
3- If you want use mods, download mods at http://steamworkshopdownloader.io (
copy the steam link of the mod you want to download and paste it ) after open your dowser as admin and make a new mod (just randomize it settings but game version is important make it currently verison of game (1.10.1) ) finally open your mod file and copy everything and paste it to what you named as mod
4- If New version done by skidrow follow this :
copy inside everything of ''CRACK'' file (probably 3 file ) and paste it in main folder of the game (after setup)

For some reason I can't start HOI4 through the launcher because of this error. I want to play HOI4 with mods enabled but because of this error I can't do it.
Could anyone please help and explain how I can fix this error?
Make sure to have steam running in the background
If your game won't start because a DLL is missing, try seeing the Windows Defender settings to see if Windows marked the DLLs as a virus (note, they aren't actually viruses, Windows just thinks they are), if it has marked it as such, make sure that Windows Defender allows the file.
Also make sure that you have the correct APIs installed, these include the latest DirectX version (that your PC can support), Java, .NET Frameworks, C++ frameworks, etc.
Also make sure that you are certain your PC will do fine on the game you are downloading, as sometimes the IGG specifications are either incorrect or not listed at all.
In this case I'd say it's incorrect, but opinions may differ, for me, my recommendation would be :
Minimum :
OS : Any OS above Windows 7, regardless of whether it's 32 bit or 64 bit, but go for 64 bit to take advantage of your extra RAM
Processor : Anything from 2011 or newer will do just fine
Memory : 4GB, anything below that is not enough to run a system these days,
Graphics : I'd recommend an 8800 GTX or better, anything older will either run just above "playable" or won't support DirectX 9.0, (Note : To be specific, the earliest Nvidia card that supports DirectX 9 is the ones in the FX Series (2003) and for AMD/ATI it would be the R300 series (2003), however, those are very weak and so they won't be able to play the game so easily)
Storage : 4GB (as of now the game is 3.2GB big)
Recommended :
OS : Windows 10 64 bit to take advantage of modern utilities
Processor : Any CPU made after 2015 will do

First error is most likely associated with mistakes in .mod file, or if descriptor.mod was pasted to game directory without replacing "archive" line with "path" line. However I still have to know what is the site you downloaded it from.
I am afraid I am not experienced enough to help with error no. 2, but if you can provide me with exact text of the error there might be something I could work out.

For the second error, I am not 100% sure this will help. Do not launch HOI4 from dowser.exe. Open dowser.exe to check mods, close it and run the game from hoi4.exe.

When you create a mod folder for yourself read the path of the original descriptor file of your mod , in my case it was EAW .
Find for this exact line in your mod file :
path="C:/Users/Utilizator/Documents/Paradox Interactive/Hearts of Iron IV/mod/eaw
When you create your mod just use the name of the mod : in this case it is EAW.
Copy the descriptor file in the downloaded folder , delete the one the mod creation tool created ( Yes I think this is the most important part ) .
I have tried this and it fixed my problem with Equestria At War mod .

OK I actually solved this by installing Net Framework 4.5
Dowser now works.
One more thing when i use the new launcher it doesn't run the game i don't know why so i have to run the game clicking on hoi4.exe but the dowser launcher don't run the game i already did everything like changing distPlatform pdx and everything but it doesn't seem to work any suggestion ?
For DLCs to work, do not forget to replace steam dlls by those in the .iso
maybe try checking re-installing or re-downloading

But when I click "play" on the launcher it closes and the game never launches. am I doing something wrong?

In the music section looks like they removed some of the Sabaton DLC music pack songs is that a decision of Paradox Interactive or the Hoodlum guys removed it ?
Maybe you have more than 1 antivirus i'm using Windows Defender so i just turned off that one and then i used Winrar to extract the setup and then i install it...
So try first to turn off your antivirus and then extract the rar ok if you do it after, the antivirus might delete the setup or the crack trust me it happened to me so i do it like that and it worked...

You have to download the full game, because IGG used Hoodlum crack instead of CODEX for 1.9 HOI4.
