Nice game. Press R to relo - I MEAN
Press F to pay respect to the brave game devs that broke through with these games so today we could have a whole genre of them... And for starting the game industry/keeping it alive.

is it me or is this remaster kind of broken? There is no character menu and nothing seems to happen when my characters die. They just go unconscious and I stop combat to walk a square and restart combat with everyone at 1 hp. And the character window does not change, just shows the full health stats for them and doesnt change with combat damage. Dunno whats up with that but I stopped playing after like an hour. Could have been good but there was too much unfinished weirdness.

It functions almost identically to how the original does with the same hotkeys. So be sure to read the manual.

this game could be considered the pionner of the post apocalyptic genre
and the one who gave birth to the fallout franchise too
it would have been great to play this in those years (i was 3 years old ;/)

Fallout and Fallout 2 make perfect sense, this game don't make any sense at all.
We much better play RPG Maker games than this.

Feels really dated. Interesting as a nostalgia piece or out of curiosity for the times of yore.

Won't deny its seriously dated, but sometimes its fun to go back and see just how much the games we loved as a youth have changed. If only so we can appreciate modern games all the more. That or shed tears when we see how the quality in certain areas has plummeted. It's a gamble looking back at old games!

Exactly what I meant by "nostalgia piece".
To be fair - it was probably much easier to get creative while games where made by a couple of guys on a few thousand bucks - with a target audience of thousands and not millions.
That's probably why creativity can still be found around indies nowadays.

Cannot be more dated than all the visual novels that are still being produced.

Ironically enough visual novels age pretty well unlike graphical heavy games.
I mean, you could instantly understand and play a 20 year old VN , but a 20 year old FPS or strategy game or whatever would have a steep learning curve.
Only the themes and probably the tone of a VN would feel dated - and those usually age better than graphics or special effects.
Works the same for movies ?

I remember playing some VN from like 5-6 years ago and most their concepts are still current. I mean, peer pressure, drug abuse, bullying, the kind of stuff that is going to happen whether the setting is 1990 or 2090. So yeah, besides maybe graphical quality, VNs hold their age well.

Play Fallout 2 instead if u never have before, its still my fav RPG ever (besides FFVii) & it has possibly the best adult humor in an RPG if not any game ever.

Been there - done that.
And you're absolutely right.
On a side note - Wasteland 2 Director's Cut was somewhat pretty good. Opinions differ on that, but I found it to be close to the old Fallout spirit. Kind of.

I did like Wasteland 2 DC. I should drag out my copy and try and beat it. Too many games are in that category. Games that I started, but then things happened and it got put on near permanent hiatus.

Exactly.
A shame it's so awkward to play it today - it was great in it's time but nowadays feels too ancient to really be enjoyable IMHO even if "remastered".
Still, a great piece of video game history there.

I'll still take a look at it. See just how faithful it is to the original. I remember the "paragraph 17" copy protection system they used. It was fun to go back after you played the game and read the ones thrown in just to confuse people who tried to skip the story. I mean, there were many that talked about things that just did not happen in the game at all.

was this game and not fallout
something that you will never learn in the history class :P

History will never forget.

The game's general setting and concept became the basis for Interplay's 1997 role-playing video game Fallout

theres a recent mod who make it looks like a remaster

Just downloaded, will check it out. That game was pretty hard at that time. Games like Descent are not made anymore. All we see is politics, graphics and storytelling. Good gameplay like Synthetik Legion Rising is really difficult to find.

Yup this one is awesome - a cult classic. A true simulator of old - steep learning curve, no hand holding and crazy hard. And the mods are insane too.

I mean this image comes from the original release.
The difference between the original and the new version is clearly notorious, so it is not a lame-remaster such as Chrono Trigger, it is a proper remaster.
