I was excited to download this until I saw this download size. I know its not true here but in general there is a blatant inverse relationship between game quality and game size. The higher rez your grass has the less work you put into the actual game in my experience. The last game over 5GB I played was Roller Drome at like 7GB and that I've had a better gaming experience these last few years than any time before like 2010

I downloaded the game with no issues, extracted the files with no issues, but the moment install it and try to play it takes me to steam. I have uninstalled and reinstalled it multiple times already. Now I am not sure if I should delete all the files and redownload all of them again or if someone could give me an easy fix for this please.
Because you still not crack it before start game. After install, you must open .iso file, you will see "RUNE" folder, copy all files in that folder and paste to your game's dir, enjoy ;)

Yes, but you need to install and use a 3rd party server, like voobly. Edit: That only works for older versions (most recent version is the "the conquerors" update), if you want to play something more recent then you'll need to buy it on steam

It's rather disgusting how Microsoft has been milking AOE2 for so long, there is little reason to play this over the original release and its only true expansion unless you really want to experience the subpar new content. 30 GB for such an old game seems rather overkill.

Probably not, because the older version this has replaced was by CODEX. BTW if your on windows 7 don't download this, this version does not work with it. There is a hotfix which fixes that issue but I don't expect an update for that anytime soon.

What Operative system are you using? seems like windows 10, but that looks like a windows xp problem. It has to do with Java. Try uninstalling and re-installing Java to the lastest version. Besides that, update your drivers with some program (i recommend driver boost)
Now that AoE 2 DE is out do you think that AoE 2 HD zoom out problem is fixed ??? The fact that you couldn't zoom out was my reason to quit the game. Finally installed, fixed a problem (System error down below) just to know that my com cant handle it.DAMMIT is AoE2HD zoom out ok ????
The space is mostly different languages and the big HD 4k textures. the actual game is barely 8 gigabytes. you might need to get fit like some...girls, if you wanna have a lower size.
u need to install all the VC++ from 2005 i think till 2017 or try head for runtime all in one and install it but i recommend that u download everything and install it

When I upgrade something during the game for example units, they vanish and I can't use them. The same for some buildings (mill, market). Is it just a bug and I have to wait for update for this game or it's something wrong with the game?

There is a full list of features that this game has as well, four new civs to play as which're quite good, and 4k textures. yes. The graphics are very well improved.
I used to think like that, but it's quite misleading. "Content" is more than just size, the latest AAA games (let's take CoD BO4 for example) have dozens upon dozens of GBs of assets and files, sometimes exceeding 100gb, but they're very shallow and don't have much content. The original Skyrim, or any Elder Scrolls game, is under 10gb (if I remember correctly, it's been 8 years haha), and it has hundreds of hours of real, tangible content. With CoD you've experienced all the multiplayer has to offer in 14-20 hours max, and when it includes a campaign (BO4 didn't IIRC), it's rarely over 6 hours long. Then you have some more extreme examples, games like Slay the Spire that are only a few hundred megabytes and have tons of highly replayable content, or hell, old-fashioned roguelikes that barely reach 100mb and can potentially be played for thousands of hours! I think size is telling of how much content certain specific kinds of games have. But most of the time, in this day and age, size is only an indicator of how "high quality" (or badly compressed! lol) the assets, music, voices, etc. are, regardless of how lacking the actual game is.
I like to bring up Witcher 3 in such discussions as it has lots of content and good graphics, far more voice acting and is still far smaller in size (GOTY edition with all DLC und latest patches) than games like Wolfenstein - The New Order. Witcher being around 35 gigs and Wolfenstein being 47...
Yeah, exactly. Though I think the ID engine has something to do with the size: all the games made with it in recent years (DOOM 2016, Wolfestein reboot 1 & 2, etc.) are all huge in size, but not that big in terms of assets even!

That's good to hear. The comparison was purely to make a simple example with well known titles, but yeah, most modern FPS games are way too big for how little they offer. Back in the day, though, they were a genre were you could usually tell the length of the campaign by the size!
Generally size doesn't automatically equals to more content, it can just be unnecessarily bloated files, ever heard of .kkrieger playable beta from 2004 (if i am not mistaken)? thats a lot for a 95.0 KB single file.
None of them look like they can come close to the remastered sprites tho. The remastered sprites is really something else imo, the buildings esp. Looks better and more artistic than AoE 4 trailer (3D engine).

I can vouch that pirating and having to reinstall it every 90 days or so does NOT do any favors to your computer. I just bought the damn thing because it stopped accepting the version I had.

This thread is honestly one of the worse i've seen on this site. Anyone can literally just google "windows 10 activator" or something and you will get any windows version activated, with no need to reactivate and you can also update it whenver you want. You get no issues whatsoever (if you're not an iliterate at computers) And you uninstall all the bloatware to play any game you want with no worries about future assistance. Get your stuff together, people. I mean, if you can buy it, buy it, if not, just pirate it but don't do be a dummy about it.

Played the Beta, game looks good but the enemy and friendly AI weren't the sharpest tools in the shed, hope they fixed that and them taking the longest path to get back home. Hope it goes on sale during the holidays, AOE and Starcraft, good childhood memories.
No, but I expect better path selection than what I saw in the Beta. The default difficulty was Normal, maybe they're better once you bump it up to Hard. Still one of the greatest strategy games ever made. Hope it goes on sale during the big holidays that are coming up.

When you play while being zoomed out, the HD version looks pretty good.

I think size is telling of how much content certain specific kinds of games have. But most of the time, in this day and age, size is only an indicator of how "high quality" (or badly compressed! lol) the assets, music, voices, etc. are, regardless of how lacking the actual game is.

Anyone can literally just google "windows 10 activator" or something and you will get any windows version activated, with no need to reactivate and you can also update it whenver you want.
You get no issues whatsoever (if you're not an iliterate at computers) And you uninstall all the bloatware to play any game you want with no worries about future assistance. Get your stuff together, people.
