According to Japan, it doesn't fall flat at all. Though, one would have to search for the marketed-for-women portion of media to see that (which video games don't tend to be).

i simply don't get why this is still a thing
...well, kinda get how they're trying to make their characters distinguishable from others, but exchanging one set of fuzzy ears for another seems a pretty cheap form of creativity to me
