What killed Rust for me, was Garry's choice to remove any kind of character customization. And instead having your character generate from your steam ID.(for those wondering how it works) So my character ended up looking like a buff version of one of my guy friends, and i just couldn't do it. Garry got real butt hurt too when people found workarounds, so he patched them out real fast.
WAIT WHAT!?!? Thats what killed Rust for you?? NOT it being the Single MOST TOXIC game that literally draws in the WORST & by so far most TOXIC human beings in the world? (I struggle to even call them human). Or not the fact that ALL Small or Medium sized server owners like myself (40-45 players) Have been KILLED by the WORST game developers in gaming history after they released the biggest game breaking/killing update (the Excavator Update) that FORCES ALL server owners to have a map size of at Least 3600 (thats HUGE for a Small/Medium pop server) just to have Monuments? Yeah, thats right, you DONT get monuments like Launch Site or Dome etc on your server anymore unless you make the map insanely Huge, thats what Killed Rust for me, probably because it also Killed BOTH my very successful servers that I spent YEARS of my life building & managing, building up to 40+ regular players, (thats just the regulars, not the new & random players that joined everyday) countless donators/supporters. The Scumbag Devs Killed their own game by choosing to kill ALL small/medium servers & nobody had any idea why, except I personally think its pretty damn obvious why they did it, to "Force" Everyone to only be able to play on "Official" servers. But no, you decided the game was dead just cause everyone was assigned a pre-made character, Rofl! Your so funny! If that was the only reason then Im very sad you didnt stick with Rust (before the game Killing Excavator Update insanity) & come & play on my servers! We made the friendliest & nicest place anyone could possible come to play Rust on! I even had 2 police officers, complete with a car & their own uniforms that used to drive around & police the players for me (one officer was a long time admin) to make sure everyone was following the rules (we had a max of 2 raids per 24 hours to force people to pick their raids more carefully & not just raid every new player or tiny base on the server in one day & kill the server like what happens a lot on other servers) I had free Skinbox so everyone had access to over 5,000 free skins & FacePunch (the Devs) decided, no, lets destroy it all. So sad!
Never got to the toxic part. I couldn't get past the way character races/genders were chosen. The whole SteamID lottery thing was a deal breaker. Life is bad enough with it being a genetic lottery, i don't need that in games too.
Some people don't care, some people do. To each their own. If you don't care, then great, more power to you, Rust's SteamID character lottery is perfect for you. I on the other hand, care how my character looks. And when my character looks like a buff version of one of my RL friends.. you just can't unsee that. I can imagine hanging out with him and his wife (also a close friend), and be like, so yeah, playing this game, my character looks just like you. But every time i die, you're totally naked.
