i need a bit of help whenever I try to use set up my controller on the config option and select the controller, it starts acting up like a the computer mouse and doesn't give me the option to customize the controls Also when I open the game, the controller doesn't seem to work because I can't even press start and need to do it by keyboard even though the controller on its own is 100% functional Could someone help me with this problem please? I would really aprecciate it :) EDIT: Nevermind that, I fixed the problem. You have to open the game as an admin.

Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\SEGA\Sonic Generations (or wherever you downloaded it to) and run ConfigurationTool.exe as Administrator. Change the settings and then hit Save and Quit.

Alright, so the DS4 is doing some pretty weird shenanigans when ever it is connected and I select/focus the config tool it prefers to act like a mouse, rather than a controller and never gives me the prompt to give the input. sucks, really.
Manimtired1312 I've had it, and whatever I did to change it, it never actually worked. I couldn't set it to my settings, so all of that time I couldn't find anything. I uninstalled it to find a few months later a geek has joined the party, and now I have to reinstall it again!
I know this is an extremely stupid question, but did you run it in admin, and if so, did you click "save and quit" and not just "Quit"? Again I know these are stupid questions, I'm really just trying to help
Run the config tool as admin. this way, it should be able to save anything, and everything each time you want to/feel the need to reconfigure but annoyed by having to do the right click and run as admin thing, do right click -> properties -> compatibility -> You should see a run as administrator box, check that box -> complete! now the config tool should stay as admin, and each time you try to launch it, you will get a prompt.
Someone help me with critical error ( configuration don't match with your hardware please rerun configuration tool) its been 5 years and try to fix it but it's useless.
Have you try deleting all the .cfg files in the game folder and then open the configuration again? And make sure your computer has the required graphics. Or maybe you have to redownload the game if you still having the old version (this is highly recommended)
Actually, this error is nothing, it's ridiculously easy to fix and you don't have to download anything. But you will need to uninstall the game first if you still have it and keep the downloaded parts.
After you have mounted the disk (unzip from the 9 parts), a setup folder will appear. It contains the setup file, all the setup parts and a folder name "Fairlight"
Continue with the install by clicking setup and finish it. Make sure you know where the game is.
Return to the setup folder in step 1 (DO NOT delete it after you have finished the setup). Open the "Fairlight" folder, copy the 2 files in it ( "fairlight" and "steam_api.dll"). Navigate to the installed game folder ( C:\Program Files (x86)\Sonic Generation) and paste that 2 files in it, a box will appear, click replace.
And you are done, now you can delete the previous setup folder and play the game without any other errors. Believe me, i just did that a few hours ago and it works ( Mine is Win 7)
What do u mean? I'm playing the game and it saved properly. A small tip: before entering the game, go to the "ConfigurationTool" first, it's in the game's folder. U can change the Graphics and in-game buttons there. After that, press "Save and quit". You said you can't save the game right? Maybe this will help:
Open the game, play as much as u want, DO NOT quit the game if the saving symbol is still there (the blue circle loading one), ever.
Quit the game if u want, the save file will appears in the game folder, the file's name is "sonic", it's a SAV file. You can copy (not cut) the file to another folder, just in case if you lose your save file. Hope it will work for you :)

You should probably turn off your anti virus dude, otherwise run the configuration tool as an administrator (if this problem is coming from the configuration tool, that is)

I'm pretty sure I did everything correctly. I cracked it and installed it. When I wnet to configure the settings it told me their was an error because there was no valid graphics configuration file. So when I go into the sonic generations folder the graphics config is missing! How do I fix this?

So...for some reason, I'm unable to save. The game acts like it's auto-saving, but anytime I close out then try to continue where I left off, it tells me that there's no save data. Anyone know what's going on? Or how it can be fixed?

You need to drag the files in the folder named CRACK to the directory where you installed Sonic Generations, if you are asked to replace anything, say Yes.
