It's... kind of a weird game. I think I'm starting to get the gist of it, but it's overall quite different to most card games I've played so far, and it kind of sucks at explaining some of the nuances.
The whole idea of the game is that you have a band of 1-4 mages drawing cards from a set, non-random "supply" of cards that all try to defeat a single big enemy. There's no deck shuffling, unless an enemy or spell effect shuffles it, it'll just cycle through, so you can kinda set up your own hands, but it's really not intuitive or well explained. From what I've seen, the less mages you have, the harder it is, but more mages is more of a pain to manage, so I think they want you to play this with other people, "hot seat" style.
So far, I like some of the ideas presented in it, and I'm gonna give it a couple more tries, but it feels pretty unbalanced and very confusing when it comes to understanding what the enemy is doing, why, and how to counter it. A thorough read of the in-game manual helps, but they really should've tried to put all that info in the "tutorial", and even if you scour the pages, there's some things that are never explained or that don't work like you think they do.
For instance, summoned mobs can have a "PERMANENT" effect, which is "immediately resolved" when they come into battle. But that "PERMANENT" effect can be triggered again! And nowhere does it say why, or when, or how. Some of these effects are devastating, and they can be triggered in quick succession, quickly ending your game.
A bit more info on that: the way to lose the game is to have all your mages die or, most importantly, have the City you're protecting die. It has a measly 35 hp, and the boss can attack several times in a row (because of reasons!) dealing 10-15 damage in a single turn to it. Coupled with the many other sources of damage to the City, and the slow pace of the game, that is an absolutely ludicrous amount of potential damage to your main lose condition in a single turn! It's the way one of my games ended, when I had gotten the boss down to around 12 life, and was going to finally blast him in the next one or two turns, and he pulled that one off and immediately ended my game... Cool, I guess...
If you really dig card games, give it a try, or most likely three or four, and see if you understand what's going on and you like it. Otherwise, I advise passing for now, until it maybe gets some updates.
