To anyone who finds this game tedious or repetitive, you aren't playing it right. If you finish your basic combo it will knock the enemy down and you will have to wait for them to get back up to do any real damage. Don't do this. Cancel your combo before the last hit and restart the combo from the beginning over and over again. If you get all the enemies on one side before doing this other enemies will walk into your fist and you can stun lock entire waves. This also positions multiple enemies to be hit by special moves at the same time. Also, please get the mod (UserXPMod). It makes the game so much better.
I can't play the game, it only downloads a 2Mo file that's supposed to download the game but when I run it it doesn't download anything... How have you done to install this game ?
Visually, it's good, but not 90s good. It's bright, colorful, lively, and every location feels "realistic". Animations feel "floaty", like the hits feel "disconnected" or something, they don't have much impact. At least, compared to 90s beat'em up. It doesn't feel as satisfying as the old classics. (Final Fight, Violent Storm, Vendetta, Alien versus Predator, Cadillacs and Dinosaurs, etc.) Both hitting and blocking feels like there's a very slight delay... Unfortunately, combat is the most important in such games... Combat DOES become a bit more interesting as you unlock moves, but it doesn't "feel" right. I hope the game will get updates, because it's impossible to remap the controllers... Why would anybody release a beat'em up game without giving players the possibility to remap controllers? I don't get it. Only one button for attacking, picking up objets, and moving to next area? Seriously? The game is kinda easy, but some of the combos the enemies manage to perform are extremely overpowered and ridiculous. Fortunately, you can do more or less the same once you level up. But I think it's annoying to have to travel to the Dojo just to unlock one new move. Very redundant in an action game. (Is it like this all the time? No fast travel?) Unlocking skills in real-time or enabling them in the menu would have been much better, like a Metroidvania or something. Another annoying thing which seems minor at first is that when an enemy knocks you out, you stay on the ground way too long. It breaks the pace. Same for enemies. Also, unlike most beat'em up, it's better to not stay close to enemies on the ground, because their recovery animation is like 1/10000s, and they hit you instantly, even if you try your best to hit them first. They WILL hit you first, believe me. It's like they're invincible for a few seconds after they stand up. This is not the case for you at all, unfortunately... On the other hand, it's pretty fun to be able to kick enemies on the ground. This doesn't sound right...๐คฃ In general, every fight takes way too long, compared to most beat'em ups, making the game a bit boring and monotonous pretty quick. Music is average, none of the melodies are memorable. SFX are very weak sounding. They tried to hard to make them sound old-school. Gameplay time, so far, seems to be much, much longer than regular more straight-forward beat-em up(recent example : https://igg-games.com/fightn-rage-pc-free-493719568-download.html, which is more simple, but also the better game.). In such games, I couldn't care less about the story, but every character is irritating and easy to dislike. Fortunately, you can skip all cutscenes. Overall a pretty average game. I'm still waiting for Streets of Rage 4. To be fair, I think it's marginally better than the game it's inspired of, "https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/River_City_Ransom", that old open-world beat'em up on Nes, released in 1989, but I'm not sure it's better than its reboot, https://igg-games.com/river-city-ransom-underground-free-612613839-download.html. its easy because some characters are damn op like misako, anything she touch fly away like smash brothers style the story was meh but at least was nice to see many cameos enemies recovery animation are lame but easy to exploit (just stand behind them duh) you are wrong about staying on ground for longer times, its the contrary you recover much faster than the enemies who stay on ground for a long time and the only thing you can do are stomp or grab them except kunio who is a cheap bastard with a infinite cheap move
Lots of people on Steam say exactly what I say. Even the positive reviews mention that fights are too long and repetitive, or that controllers can't be remapped(at the moment). Everything I say is true. Except music and story, since everybody has different taste, so it was irrelevant to mention it, I guess.
very strong controller recommended keyboard controls cannot be remapped and its a pain in the ass to play it the first time took me 1 day to finally master this using the keyboard
my DS4 controller is working DS4Windows but it skips the up and down buttons, whenever i try to scroll through it skips and option and goes to the next selection anyone else have this issue?

A few things I want to address to the possible people who have no real clue about this game and want to call it a Double Dragon knock off or say it supposedly has an agenda or whatever just because girls are saving men? Actually the Kunio Kun Series came out before Double Dragon hell the Kunio collection game actually has the Double Dragons 1 2 and 3 in the package done all originally by Techono's Japan Also the fact people are yet again getting riled up over female characters saving guys granted Kunio aka Alex and Riki aka Ryan are normally badasses in the River City Ransom games and other titles. Tho they also got jumped and captured unaware in this game. It happens to even the baddest of dudes. Anyways Kyoko and Misako have always kicked ass just as much Kunio and Riki tho most people don't know this because the Super Famicom game that came out with them as playable as well as Kunio and Riki themselves was never released outside japan. Lastly if people are going to complain about this honestly. Why have I never seen anyone complain about the role reversal of Peach rescuing the Mario Bros. the game Super Princess Peach? No one ever called the Mario Bros. weak for having to be rescued from her as an example or anything? This is pretty much the same concept of role reversal but same classic River City style gameplay. I'm not Shilling either i'm just a fan of the series trying to be helpful for the uninformed.

I grew up on the originals so it's easy for me to go back to the old shit and just pick and pick..but you find..you'd probably never enjoy anything that way. As most things are just recycled ideas anyhow. So I tend to try and enjoy what something is, as it is, THEN go back and pick at it. So, in the time I watched the movie..it was somewhat corny still. I hate anytime they made a joke and tried to just ride it out..However, the movie as a whole made me laugh a good bit. Genuinely. And they had ghosts...so...yea lol. Not the greatest, but still a fun thing to sit back on the couch to laugh at on a Saturday night. THEN I went back into the comparison or at least how much respect it deserves...and it falls apart then lol. But what would've kept it together was if they didn't try to replace the originals. Agreed also another thing people should realize is normally they westernized the names and designs in a way kinda like culture censorship? This is true to form however and the names are actually the proper this is a big step for the series hopefully this means going forward the Alex and Ryan names and the outfit desgins being changed will be gone and will actually get Kunio and Riki as they were always called and looked in the japan version. I know many people seem to dislike changing the original culture and westernizing it and Wayforward and Arc system actually didn't this time around. Last thing if people hate the voice acting you could always go retro and turn off the voices altogether since from my knowledge I don't recall any other Kunio game having voice acting this is a first.
The game doesn't allow it at all (even on official steam version) You can do a script with AutoHotKey (it's a free software) You just need to download this software then install it, once it's done, you just right click somewhere on your desktop (or in a pre-made empty folder) and select New > AutoHotKey Script You let the pre-made line inside or delet it , doesn't matter. Then the code to change letter are "::" , so for example you write: q::o o::q Once you start the script it you type "q" it will be considered as o and vice versa. So you just need to check out all the button in the game you want to remap. For example again, if you want to remap the movement on your arrows key you just need to write something along those lines up::w down::s left::a right::d When you're done playing the game just right-click>exit the AutoHotKey icon in your task bar. Hope it will help a minimum. I will proceed to do the same to play the game when I'm less lazy. Cheer.
OK so the only issue I have with the game is that whenever I try to play the game with a gamepad connected it will make the controller be player 2 by default and it makes it impossible for me to play the game
do you have another controller of any kind plugged in to your computer? i had this same issue one time and it turned out it the game was seeing my retro snes controller and making it player 1 for some reason.
If you're having issues running this game, do all of the 'usual' updating and run the .exe in Administrator mode. My laptop from 2012 runs this perfectly so it does work

yeah i mean you gotta slug through the main game first, but it's worth it. Riki is slick as hell, and Kunio is a badass as always. You get NG+ which adds a new collectible ( cats ) also, there's merlin's hidden shop again too. You can probably find it easily, but all it sells are two items for 5k apiece. and they dont really work great by themelseves. if you start NG +, kunio and riki also gain all the money you earn, and the exp from missions, so they auto level a bit. cheers

it's an offical entry into the mainline series. It's still river city ( some areas are actually the same layout ) rule of thumb, if it's made by Wayforward, it's probably a very good game. This is very true to what you liked about RcR. Same game, with chicks at first, and you can unlock kunio and rikki later on. ( with their own full movesets )

it's long but I'm trying to be as clear and helpful about this as possible.
Technically speaking if people want to get so worked up about it. Actually the Kunio Kun Series came out before Double Dragon hell the Kunio collection game actually has the Double Dragons 1 2 and 3 in the package done all originally by Techono's Japan
Also the fact people are yet again getting riled up over female characters saving guys granted Kunio aka Alex and Riki aka Ryan are normally badasses in the River City Ransom games and other titles. Tho they also got jumped and captured unaware in this game. It happens to even the baddest of dudes. Anyways Kyoko and Misako have always kicked ass just as much Kunio and Riki tho most people don't know this because the Super Famicom game that came out with them as playable as well as Kunio and Riki themselves was never released outside japan.
Lastly if people are going to complain about this honestly. Why have I never seen anyone complain about the role reversal of Peach rescuing the Mario Bros. the game Super Princess Peach? No one ever called the Mario Bros. weak for having to be rescued from her as an example or anything? This is pretty much the same concept of role reversal but same classic River City style gameplay.
I'm not Shilling either i'm just a fan of the series trying to be helpful for the uninformed.

My aunt who was the wild one, but fought anyone..ANYONE. men women, big, small, knife, gun...doesn't matter.
BUT...let's take Bruce Lee movies..but instead make the woman the main person. You can CLEARLY see it's Bruce's movie, but they forced a woman in that role all to make it "empowering".
There's going to be a loss of respect there.
Personally, I don't think the game is that bad. I don't think the idea is bad..but I can udnerstand..and you have to admit that you CAN understand that there is a trend that's happening. And honestly, it doesn't give women more respect. You don't get the respect you deserve by trying to just take over.

Like..if this game was made back when river city ransom was hot and fresh...it would just be another installment. no fuss. But it came years later...actually, most people were asking for a remake of that orginal thing. so to have a game based on that, but changed..people are going to criticize. AND it comes in a time of such trends of replacing men with women....of course it's going to be scrutinized for that.
I'd say it would be more accepted if 1st the remade was..made. If it was remade with original characters, then the sequel came with these ladies.

There is no trend to this because truth be told Kunio and Riki are playable with a full moveset and everything after you beat the game... there's another big spoiler but the girls are apparently crazy obsessed nut jobs and not really dating Kunio and Riki who never needed rescuing if this was supposdly virtue signaling woman then why would they put Kyoko and Misako in a bad light at the very end instead of getting exactly what they want?

And if you read my comments, you'll see within that I do agree that it's just a good game. I agree some movies with female leads are just great movies..but that doesn't change that it all came within a trend and that trend is what's being criticized.

I watched it without constantly reverting back to the originals. I grew up on the originals so it's easy for me to go back to the old shit and just pick and pick..but you find..you'd probably never enjoy anything that way. As most things are just recycled ideas anyhow.
So I tend to try and enjoy what something is, as it is, THEN go back and pick at it.
So, in the time I watched the movie..it was somewhat corny still. I hate anytime they made a joke and tried to just ride it out..However, the movie as a whole made me laugh a good bit. Genuinely. And they had ghosts...so...yea lol.
Not the greatest, but still a fun thing to sit back on the couch to laugh at on a Saturday night.
THEN I went back into the comparison or at least how much respect it deserves...and it falls apart then lol.
But what would've kept it together was if they didn't try to replace the originals. Instead, if they were just a branch of what was already there. If maybe their town didn't have a ghosbusters..or maybe in a universe where most things were localized, but it all started to spread. Whatever...and this particular branch just happens to have mostly only women who were brave enough to be part of it..THAT would've been better and made people not criticize in the mindset of "oh you're just trying to replace men"

You can do a script with AutoHotKey (it's a free software)
You just need to download this software then install it, once it's done, you just right click somewhere on your desktop (or in a pre-made empty folder) and select New > AutoHotKey Script
You let the pre-made line inside or delet it , doesn't matter.
Then the code to change letter are "::" , so for example you write:
q::o
o::q
Once you start the script it you type "q" it will be considered as o and vice versa.
So you just need to check out all the button in the game you want to remap.
For example again, if you want to remap the movement on your arrows key you just need to write something along those lines
up::w
down::s
left::a
right::d
When you're done playing the game just right-click>exit the AutoHotKey icon in your task bar.
Hope it will help a minimum. I will proceed to do the same to play the game when I'm less lazy.
