I got interested in the wonder boy series when the remake came out because it was a really old game on a new hand drawed artstyle. And learn it searching when i realize that Wonder Boy and Adventure Island were the same game but with different characters
Wonder Boy for the arcade was originally developed by Weston (then Escape), and published by SEGA and SEGA only owned the WONDER BOY trademark, the rest of the game, level design, music etc was still owned by Weston, so Weston licensed their game to Hudson but ONLY the mechanics AND level design, so Hudson took the game, renamed to Adventure Island and had Master Higgins as their protagonist. After that Hudson create 3 more Adventure Island games for the NES/Famicom on their own, but they only kept Master Higgins as the playable character and depleting the lifebar mechanic for their subsecuent games. SEGA on the other hand took the Wonder Boy franchise and experiment with it, made 2D sidescrolling shooter, Wonder Boy III Monster Lair and made 2D Adventure games under the sub-series called Monster World in japan (which include the Wonder Boy in Monsterland, Wonderboy III Dragon's Trap (yes 2 games with a "III" in it) and Wonder Boy in Monster World. which was called Wonder Boy V: Monster World III overseas (another "III" again). Then a fourth Monster World game called just Monster World IV was relased only in japan 23 Years later, developer french developers LizardCube and publisher DotEmu got the rights from SEGA and remake Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap. AS A BIG FINALE to this long a hard story to follow. This year, FDG Games got the rights to the Monster World series from LAT Corp (who holds the rights at the time) and publish a complete new game in the series called Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom developed by Atelier Games. The reason why it wasn't named Wonder Boy is because SEGA didn't hold the rights to the Wonder Boy name worldwide anymore so it was difficult for them (a small publisher) to get the trademark TL;DR this game is a remake of the FIRST WonderBoy game made by Weston/SEGA. The game was licensed to Hudson who renamed to Adventure Island and create a whole diferent franchise and made sequels from it. And also SEGA did his own thing with the Wonder Boy series, made a sub-series called Monster World 23 years later LizardCube/DotEmu remake one of the older games and one year later Atelier Games/FDG Games make another NEW game of the Monster World series and was launch as Monster Boy because they could not get the Wonder Boy Thanks for reading im out
you're missing out on plenty of context to this actual game itself. This is a rehash of wonder boy and wonder boy returns ( which was removed from steam ) and includes none of the additional content that wonder boy returns had.
Oh boy here we go... this always got me too. wonder boy is sega's baby, adventure island is by hudson (direct competitors back in the old bit-wars days). nearly identical and nobody got sued! they're also technically separate franchises. weird.
And Adventure Island is the American branding of the Wonderboy series (in the same vein as Winning Eleven - Pro Evolution Soccer or Earthbound-Mother), so you're basically saying the same thing as Hayazo
Gdrive says the file has a virus, now i know that it could be false positive but is the first time Gdrive warns me like that about a download, check the game again just in case guys or at least fix the Gdrive link.
