Tetris Effect starts on a black windowed screen but minimizes itself and when I press it's icon it doesn't go full screen. I don't plan on using VR and I can't seem to fix this problem myself tinkering with the ini within the files. I can't start it on PC.
I have uninstalled over 5 times and reinstalled but I can not get it to go part this window, if anyone knows how to fix this I would love to hear it. I FIGURED IT OUT! The bug is due to a new AMD driver (19.2.3). Download an old AMD driver (I downloaded 19.1.2) extract it and go to this file path inside, Packages/Drivers/Display/WT6A_INF/B338454. You need to grab a file from this folder called atidxx64.dll, after you find it, copy it to (Tetris Effect install folder)/TetrisEffect/Binaries/Win64, launch the .exe in the installation folder and it should work with no issue!
It crashes after the logos, I am not using vr and this problem occurs on every website I download it from. I'd really like to play it but 30 dollars is way to much for uppdated grafics so please help. Thx

I finally got it to work, but it gets stuck on the loading screen after I complete the first area, as well as when trying to switch modes. Works well otherwise. Any thoughts?
In terms of loading screen after an area, it saves, you just have to restart and that doesnt take long. But switching to effect mode is broken for me too, please let me know when you find a fix :DD

Is the file size less than 5 MB? Did you get the file directly, or have you used an exe? If the answer to any of the questions is yes, you downloaded an ad. Please try downloading the files again and make sure you get the correct ones.
Nice. Do you know this bug where the game just gets stuck there after finishing 1 phase (3 levels, on journey mode). Like, when I finish playing 3 levels on Journey Mode, it gives me the result screen and loads forever, I cannot do anything except force quit the game. How do I fix this?
I don't think there is a fix, but there is a workaround. When you finish the phase and the loading starts, wait for a few minutes and then force quit the game. Then launch it again and your progress should be saved!
I can play the game without VR and it works perfectly fine but when I start the game while my HTC Vive is plugged in and SteamVR is open, it dosen\t start the game in VR. Does anyone know how
What is your graphics card? Recent gpus are comaptible with directX11 or 12, but older/cheaper ones might only go up to 10 or 9. Check your graphics card's compatibility.
I can't install it, it say "An error occured while unpacking: Unable to write data to disk! Unarc.dll returned an error code: -11. If someone could help me i'd be very thankful.
Unarc.dll related errors are basically an IsDone.dll error. These error can be liked to: -Lack of HDD space -Lack of RAM -Junk files in your system -Corrupted hard drvie You could fix this by (from easiest to most drastic): -Increasing virtual memory (hdd) -Deleting some files to get more space -upgrading your hdd (or any other way of getting more space like a big thumb drive) -upgrading you ram BUT this error can also occur when one of the winrar archives that you donwloaded is corrupted, you should verify that by redownloading everything, sadly its the only way to be sure :/
Doesn't help. I installed it as you described it and changed the engine.ini, but I can't save it. Tells me, that I don't have the permissions. EDIT: Nvm, I'm dumb. Works now, thanks :) For all ppl having the same problem: Just drag the folder out of your programs (x86) folder, then you can edit and save it without problems ^^
Yeah, if a folder inside program files doesn't save, you probably don't have full admin rights. So yeah, dragging it out of program files should fix it!
tried everything, doesnยดt start in VR mode with Lenovo Explorer. I'm pretty sure you need to add a different line to your target shortcut if you have WMR. I'd suggest looking it up, you might find something! Good luck!
Once you've downloaded it and a shortcut appeared for the game on ur desktop, RIGHT click it, click properties, on the shortcut tab you'll see TARGET: at the end of that text box add " -vr -hmd=Oculus" at the end of it and click apply and OK. It should work, I did for me.
Right Click Tetris Shortcut
Click Properties
Click Shortcut tab (Should be there already)
Under Target just add " -vr -hmd=Oculus" at the end EX. ("C:\Program Files (x86)\Tetris Effect\TetrisEffect.exe" -vr -hmd=Oculus)
Not sure about that :/ have you tried running it as hmd=Oculus? Or maybe try renaming it to hmd=htc Vive. I dont really think itll work but its worth a shot
I do. But if others don't, they might have a hard time udnerstanding it. That's why I said I recommend looking at my guide if you still don't know how to do it.
Downloading? Do you mean loading? It works for me. I just let it load for a little while and then I turn it off and back on and I can continue from where I left off. Did you install the game the way you were supposed to?
I let it load for maybe 2 minutes and the turn the game off from my task bar and relaunch the game again. Make sure you're always running the game as administrator!!
My God this game is good! Best version of Tetris I've played by far, and it's all to do with how the music really goes with what you are doing, how awesome the selection of tunes is, and how the visuals also play along with what's going on too. God, sooo good--I feel like I've just come out of some tribal trance! :D

so i have been going through this thread and trying to do it but for some reason it just launch the game in desktop, i use iVRy and opened the shortcut as 'play in VR' from the steamVR menu, i also tried just launching the program while in steamVR. in both cases they launch on my monitor but not headset, is there something i'm missing here? (it's OK if you treat me like a noob i'm aware of my existence as a disaster)

Don't worry, you're not a noob! This stuff is hard to figure out sometimes. So, which headset do you have? Did you try to put " -vr" into your shortcut (not in Steam) as I described? Also, if you have an Oculus headset, the line will be different (something like " -vr =Oculus", but I'm not sure).

You have to right-click the game, click "create shortcut". This should make a shortcut on your desktop. Right-click that shortcut and there should be a line called "Target". Go to the end of that line and add in a SPACE and then "-vr" (without the quotation marks). Then click "apply" and then close the window.
OK, can someone give me very clear instructions on how to get this running on my Oculus Rift because it's just not working for me. Maybe just add in that one extra instruction [2.5] in your guide above to say you need to run the game at least once to generate the Saved/Config/WindowsNoEditor folder and Engine.ini file that is required to complete the next stage. :)
OK, I've finally figured out why your instructions weren't working for me: You have to run the game once initially for it to create the Config folder inside the Saved folder that you were referring to. But I had deleted and reinstalled the game freshly to try what you were saying so that folder didn't exist. Once I tried running the game the first time, and it failed, it then created that Config folder you were on about and I could go and find and edit the Engine.ini file you were referring to. See how important it is not to mess a step, and to really explain it like you're talking to a total noob?
Dude, it is frikin' amazing. I feel like I've been in some kind of awesome tribal trance for the last 30 mins. Just brilliant, and the best version of Tetris and indeed any puzzle game I've ever played as a result. Sooo good. And, for the younger gamers out there, there's sooo much of a classic WipEout nostalgia vibe due to much of the music they've used here. And the VR just gives it a little extra layer of special too. Love it. Think I'll buy the official version at some point so I have a legit 100% working copy I can always rely on going forward.
There is no Config folder inside the only Saved folder I can see (which is found inside the CODEX folder shown in the first image below); there's only a SaveGames folder inside the Saved folder, and it has a GAME.sav file in it and nothing else. Basically, here's what I see after I double click the codex-tetris.effect.iso (which is not shown as a folder but something called a Disc Image File) in the Tetris.Effect-CODEX folder: http://oi66.tinypic.com/xla5ok.jpg So I click the setup.exe file, which is all I can find or think to use to setup the game and "install" it and create the "game" folder on my machine, and then this is what I see inside the "game" folder that is now on my PC (called Tetris Effect and found on my C drive, which is were is "installed" it to): http://oi63.tinypic.com/m9r8za.jpg ? If I'm doing something wrong then something is missing/confusing in the instructions because I'm not really sure what the "game" folder is after that point, other than the folder installed on my machine when I run the setup .exe file, which is on my C drive inside a folder called Tetris Effect, but it has no Saved folder in it. What annoys me is that if I double click the .iso file in the Tetris.Effect-CODEX and run the setup.exe fie that appears then I can install the game and then go into the Tetris Effect game folder on my C drive and find the TetrisEffect.exe and run it to start the game, but then the game just crashes after the first few publisher splash screens. And this is true even if I add the -vr into the shortcut for the game that automatically gets installed on my desktop too, or even if I load it through Steam and do similarly in the Properties setting and add the -vr to the target. Alright then. I forgot to say, I actually didn't get the game from this site. So I'm not 100% sure which files you have and which ones you don't. So, you did everything right so far. Now just coppy everything from the CODEX folder inside your game folder. Then run the game, which should generate the "save" folder and all of it's contents. THEN go in and edit the files if you still have problems. Hopefully this helps!
Yeah, that's the part I just added above as an edit to my last comment: I didn't realise I had to run the game initially to generate that Save folder you were on about in order to find the Engine.ini file that I needed to edit. I finally figured that part out on my own though by a little trial and error, and I finally got the game working thanks to the rest of your instructions. So thank you for that.

Can you please go back to making the game files run the same as they used to be in most cases, which seemed to be more that they would run directly from inside the downloaded folder containing the game files rather than having to be loaded as some disc image and whatever other stuff, because I hardly ever get any of these downloaded games to work now yet they mostly seemed to work fine in the past, and they we far easier to just click and run directly too. I don't at all get why this disc image style seems to be your default now.
I have the game mounted and it even runs, but it immediately quits out as soon as a few publisher splash screens appear right at the start. And this happens whether I run it in PC or VR mode. And I've also tried both running it through Steam and updating the shortcut with the -vr bit at the end too. Plus, I additionally updated my PC drivers and stuff in case that might be causing the issue but that didn't help either. Any other suggestions?

The way the games are cracked is different from the way it was done in some older games. Although some games are still the same, thus only requiring you to run a single .exe file. In short, it's possible to make it as simple, but it would take time, which people don't have. Also, it's still super easy to play VR games. What exactly do you find dificult about it?

On my Oculus Rift the game is crashing out as soon as it shows a couple of developer/publisher logo screens at the start. And ideas what the problem is and how to fix it?

Yeah, they took the classic formula Tetris formula and decided "hey, we can make snazzy backgrounds, hop on the VR hype wagon, and call it reinventing the formula! Easy Money!" Sorry, WELLTRIS was more of a reinvention of Tetris than this is. This is just "Tetris with pretty backgrounds, with VR options."
Oh my goodness. This was getting rave reviews last year and I didnt see the point in playing it over regular tetris. I finally got to try this in VR and I am absolutely buying this as soon as I can. This is seriously one of the coolest VR experiences I have had ever. I wish it was available on Steam or the Oculus store, but what can you do. It's just cool that its out on PC and is a damn good version of Tetris that actually managed to drop my jaw a few times
if you make a shortcut, right click it, go to properties, and in target, add -vr after the quotes. OR if you add it to steam, right click it, go to properties > set launch options > -vr

There are more reasons to pirate games than just affordability. Plus, just look at the guy's username. He's kinda known at this point for saying stuff like this so I wouldn't really mind because I'm fairly certain they're just meming in any case.
Calm down, buddy. I mean, I ONLY pirate games and yet I have some nice things in my PC as well. It takes time to save up for stuff like this, but you'll get there.
If anyone is having trouble with Effect Modes not loading Go to Options then go to Gameplay and turn On Offline Mode and Effect Modes should load hope this helps.

I can't get the files in "Saved" to create no matter how many times I start the game. I also tried reinstall and uninstall/install. Can you send those files?
Sadly I do not know how exactly did those files appear, all I know is that I did not have them at first, but after launch I did. Ho wait I find it now !!! But when I open Engine, replace the text and saved it That say I'm not allow to change the folder because I'm not an "Administrator".. wtf
Try opening Properties of that file and un-check "ReadOnly", but that might not be the issue. An other idea is to log into an Administrator account and do the same with that.
Someone mentioned reinstalling the game fixes it, try that! :) Otherwise if you are on Windows, I meant to log into an other Windows account that has Administration rights.
After a while trying to make it run in VR, I found that you can launch it from steam. Add the game as a non steam game, and add -vr to the launching properties.

BUT this error can also occur when one of the winrar archives that you donwloaded is corrupted, you should verify that by redownloading everything, sadly its the only way to be sure :/
And if you have a VR headset it's 100% better!
EDIT: Nvm, I'm dumb. Works now, thanks :) For all ppl having the same problem: Just drag the folder out of your programs (x86) folder, then you can edit and save it without problems ^^

It always starts on my 3rd sceen, turn it off, starts on 2nd screen, turn it off, on main screen xD but never on the VR

Did you try to put " -vr" into your shortcut (not in Steam) as I described?
Also, if you have an Oculus headset, the line will be different (something like " -vr =Oculus", but I'm not sure).

anyway i use iVRy which is a driver that turns your phone into a steamVR headset, i tried opening the shortcut while in steamVR, i tried adding it to my steam library as a non steam game and opening it through the menu inside steamVR

Now I'm off to play the frikin' game. . . .
Basically, here's what I see after I double click the codex-tetris.effect.iso (which is not shown as a folder but something called a Disc Image File) in the Tetris.Effect-CODEX folder:

So I click the setup.exe file, which is all I can find or think to use to setup the game and "install" it and create the "game" folder on my machine, and then this is what I see inside the "game" folder that is now on my PC (called Tetris Effect and found on my C drive, which is were is "installed" it to):

If I'm doing something wrong then something is missing/confusing in the instructions because I'm not really sure what the "game" folder is after that point, other than the folder installed on my machine when I run the setup .exe file, which is on my C drive inside a folder called Tetris Effect, but it has no Saved folder in it.
What annoys me is that if I double click the .iso file in the Tetris.Effect-CODEX and run the setup.exe fie that appears then I can install the game and then go into the Tetris Effect game folder on my C drive and find the TetrisEffect.exe and run it to start the game, but then the game just crashes after the first few publisher splash screens. And this is true even if I add the -vr into the shortcut for the game that automatically gets installed on my desktop too, or even if I load it through Steam and do similarly in the Properties setting and add the -vr to the target.
OK, I would like to figure out what to do to fix the problem based on where I'm currently at with it, which is that I appear to have Tetris Effect installed fine on my C drive, with the TetrisEffect.exe that runs when I click it and all, but when I run that .exe the game starts then only shows a few splash screens then exits.
So, which of the installed files [that I actually have] do I tweak?
EDIT: OK, I've finally figured out why your instructions weren't working for me: You have to run the game once initially for it to create the Config folder inside the Saved folder that you were referring to. But I had deleted and reinstalled the game freshly to try what you were saying so that folder didn't exist. Once I tried running the game the first time, and it failed, it then created that Config folder you were on about and I could go and find and edit the Engine.ini file you were referring to.

I forgot to say, I actually didn't get the game from this site. So I'm not 100% sure which files you have and which ones you don't.
So, you did everything right so far. Now just coppy everything from the CODEX folder inside your game folder.
Then run the game, which should generate the "save" folder and all of it's contents.
THEN go in and edit the files if you still have problems.

In short, it's possible to make it as simple, but it would take time, which people don't have.
Also, it's still super easy to play VR games. What exactly do you find dificult about it?

An other idea is to log into an Administrator account and do the same with that.
