I hope the save file glitch after Chapter 3 is fixed! It may not be a long game but sitting for four hours to complete the whole game could be a bit extreme
Just Test it out it's unplayable u can't press ESC after editing your Graphic Settings the game stay stuck on the Graphic Settings, It's unplayable with Keyboard and Mouse & Audio sound doesn't work at all in game. A shame was looking foward to play the OG Gears of War wish Microsoft would port these OG Games.
Old post for this type of inquiry but just in case: running in compatibility mode for a 13 year old game would be a good place to start, or playing it on an older operating system if that option is available to you.
The game just won't start no matter what i try. Applied cracks as per instruction but startup.exe does nothing, running the game without startup will show intro logos and then crash. I have the exact problem, can't find any way to start the game. I've uninstalled and installed a few times. Edit: Nvm seems like you need to paste the startup.exe in to Binaries folder. Well, readme doesn't say that :)

This game works fine on win7 64bit, regarding to save your profile and settings, 1st when you have started the game, you need to create a new profile of GFWL, and then type a name and click done , that's all and no need fuck'in email or other bullshit, and dont worry about detection of piracy, just trust the IGG-Games !
Actually, when I connect to GFWL, the first thing it does is ask me for an email address. It won't let me proceed to create a game profile until after I've entered one. So how do you do it without submitting an email address?
i no longer keep the game anymore, it has been long time ago, and i couldnt recall how i did, but i really managed to get my profile settings saved. Did you confirmed that u have followed exactly my steps? the process is all done in the game, i dont think i did connected to GFWL.
Thanks for the response. The game is set up to where it's impossible to play without GFWL. It requires you to log in and then it requires you to enter a serial key. That's what I was running into. You can play the game but you just can't save your progress or game settings. After considerable searching though I did finally figure out what the problem was. I tried an older version, XLiveRedist01.02.0241.00, which fixed the problem. You still have to have it running but it lets you play offline and save locally. The newest version has been changed to where it no longer lets you do that, so it's imperative that the older version is used. Posting this so anyone else who runs into this problem can read this and not have to go through the same trouble I did.
When you say it still doesn't work, what exactly is happening? If I remember correctly, I went through these steps to make it work:
Install the game without GFWL
Download and install GFWL v01.02.0241.00.
Disconnect from internet
Run the game in compatibility mode (I used default compatibility mode for Windows Vista)
You have to still make a profile so go into GFWL (F1) and create a profile. It'll allow you to do it without an internet connection. At this point you should be good to go. Please let me know if it works out for you.
When i installed the windows live redistributable then i opened the game.i tried to access the windows live account by pressing guide or f1 but nothing happens.Maybe there could be something wrong with my windows live so could u please tell me where did u dpwnload yours ?
Not sure what the problem could be then. But yes, I just installed the redistributable. I also ran it while being disconnected from the internet. Not sure if that makes a difference or not but I didn't want to take the chance.
Searched it through google and clicked on the first link. Led to a download link directly without any warning with the file name attached. Seemed legit and seemed from microsoft. Now got a shitload of other things that i didn't want and said that the download folder was corrupted. Never downloading GoW from here again. i did installed xlive because thats the only way to play the game. so same results. i cant save and esc key doesnt worked in settings so i cant change the graphic and resolution settings. so gears of war igg is pointless to download.
yes maybe i wasnt clear enough, not the one inside the installer, thats why i said download, you need a newer version, and its not IGG fault if microsoft updates live every now and then, just download it and install it on top
