It's nice to see the game getting an update after a long hiatus. This is a creative and interesting card building game, I think it is very good, but the biggest problem is that the card description is difficult to fully understand, is it the translation problem or the UI meme? Hope the producers continue to optimize and perfect, would like to see a more complete and perfect version.

for a typical deck-building roguelike gameplay there's "Slay the Spire" and "Fate Hunters". for a more tactical card-battle gameplay there's "Spellsword Cards: DungeonTop". for a tower-defense/deck-building hybrid there's "Monster Train" and "Overdungeon". I also enjoyed "Neoverse" witch has the same formula with 3d characters. this game is very good but needs some UI improvements and faster gameplay.

So far the worst part in this is figuring out the order of operations, as in what ignores what, what happens first, and various other things that the largely useless tutorial doesn't cover.
Really, the tutorial covers everything that's obvious and nothing that isn't.
There's also some oddly/inconsistently translated stuff, which led to a fair number of game overs. Sometimes the exact same wording seems to do different stuff, and I'm not sure if it's a matter of text box sizes in translation.
The power of upgraded cards is practically a joke, some are barely better, some are easily tripled by the same upgrade. Shield Throw in particular goes from consuming your defense to deal damage, to just flat out dealing twice your defense, with no drawbacks, which let me deal four digit damage by the second area.
The game also feels pretty slow, to the point where I just strapped cheat engine on it to speed hack, though that's probably just a personal opinion. Also not sure why they seem to want to use console controller letters for their keyboard controls, but that's pretty minor.
Probably gonna have more gripes about this as I play, but I am still playing.

where did you get the cheat hack from?
is there a good site for stuff like that?

Generally I just use Cheat Engine or edit files directly if they're exposed. I think this one didn't hide any values, so searching for the numbers as the game displays them will allow you to find them after several changes.
The speed hack on CE is a default part that just needs it to be plugged into the game.

I can also say with quite a bit of confidence that the chance for cards to show up upgraded mastery just doesn't work.

Went into this with relatively decent expectations and left severely disappointed.
Wasn't at all surprised upon finding out that the game is Chinese.
UI/Controls of UI and stuff are unintuitive, translation is typically garbage overall. Some things might be talking about the exact same mechanic, but for whatever reason the keyword for that mechanic might be different in one card than in another.
There are too many things you need to keep track of in every single fight. At times, I actually had no idea what was happening.
"Why is this curse card in my hand all of a sudden? Where did I get it from? Oh, is it from that enemy that had this weird passive in another fight? [checks enemy] Noooope. He doesn't have that passive in THIS fight for who-knows-what reason."
Even basic enemies can have multiple passive effects, might buff each other and have like 4 buff effects as soon as the 2nd turn. There are often like 3 enemies at once all with different shit you need to remember before deciding anything in your turn.
The regular Defense is for some dumb reason shown as any other buff effect which doesn't catch your eye at all (caused me to attack an enemy that would block that attack anyway instead of a more suitable target many times).
And then there comes the Orb thing and you having multiple units in one fight, making you need to, aside from all the previously mentioned things, need to pay attention to which types of cards you play in which order and which enemy attacks which unit of yours (and their target might also be RANDOM, as in, you don't even know who until you actually let them attack).
Oh, and also all the buffs/debuffs on ENEMIES refer to the PLAYER characters as ALLIES and to the enemies or enemies' allies as ENEMIES. Just to fuck with you some more.

You don't need to read ANYTHING.
The very first sentence already conveys what you'd want me to say, isn't it enough for you?
For people who actually want to know the REASON as to why some random nobody like me would think that way about the game, there is the whole rest of my comment. Some short nothing-like comment like "this game sucks because I don't like the UI" actually conveys nothing of value and can be brushed off as if it didn't exist in the first place.
That's why, when I actually bother giving some sort of a personal 'review' of a game, I go further in-depth about it all. You either go all-out or you don't matter at all.

So what you problem is that game has 'too many things'? Uh, sorry but if you can't keep up with it that doesn't seem like problem of the game, I had no issue following what each enemy is doing, comboing for the Orb system also was no issue once you played for a bit, and everything enemies do is pretty clearly stated in their description when you look at it
Also don't forget it is still an Early Access game, things might and will change, but if your complaint is that game is 'not clear on what it does' or 'too many things happening', sorry but that sounds like personal issue to me, I played the game for good 5 hours yesterday pretty much straight and only time I was confused about what happened was when I didn't notice other upgrade tabs in shop, and that was once again my fault cause there are tabs clearly shown, I am not gonna go with the cliche and tell you to 'get good' as some people probably would, but honestly don't blame game for your own inability to understand what's going on
Though maybe it's just that I am so used to playing this kind of StS games by now that I just get into them too easily, dunno, can be, but as I said, I had no issue understanding what was going on, and most mechanics that are currently in game I enjoyed and had pretty easy time using, but to each their own I suppose
EDIT:
So I've spent another couple hours playing the game today and I must say that conerns I've seen from people so far seem pretty much unfair for most parts
Orb system

  • Your hero as well as party members that you gather as you progress have beteen 3 & 5 'Orbs', those are of two types, Attack & Skill (You have chance of gettin unit with 4 or even 3 orbs, but before you get upgrades chance of 3 is 1% and 4 is 10%, it grows as you upgrade that)
  • Orbs are what unlocks character specific activatable skills, some heroes have passives that give certain type of unit automatically activated Orb or two on start of fight, for example Belfamie (The woilf rider-healer support) has skill that gives all support class units an Orb on start of fight, upgraded it provides an Orb to all party members
  • Activating orb can be done by using cards, there are ways to manipulate what kind of Orbs you have, every unit also got randomized Orbs
  • Power cards activate an Orb NO MATTER WHICH KIND IT IS
  • With right unit setup you can pretty much become unstoppable, for example I currently have game going on where I play Belfamie, and my team consists of Rahwia, Water's soul and Plantia, Elite units that you encounter in 2nd area (Rahwia is 3rd area), all of them are at this point fully upgraded, Plantia has skill that gives you bonus 2 mana, which is their best I would say, but as Elite they also got a Passive, which creates a Skill card on start of fight, this can be good, or bad, really depends on how lucky you get with the skill. Water's spirit has good dmg skills, as well as skill that gives everyone in your party 1 stack of evade, which completely negates one attack, as well as Passive that gives 20 defense to everyone on start of battle (Defense does NOT deplete between rounds, nor does Evade), Rahwia is the true star of my team, she got good attacks, one that Binds everyone and does decend dmg (Bind disables attacks), single target poison attack (Poison does 5% of max HP as dmg and IS lethal), and some ok-ish aoe that ignores defenses, however her passive is what makes her ridiculous, her passive gives you reduced cost of all cards for 1st turn of combat, and with right cards, you can easily go infinite with this, or in the very least do some major dmg and set your party up to be either untouchable or regen so much that enemies have no chance (Which pretty much is what it is for me, I got couple cards that draw, some good recovery skill and I just cicle till I regen like 15 hp a turn and at tha point I usually got couple stacks of avoid, enemies are disabled, i got 100~ def on everyone and so on, simply put, Orb system if you take the time to learn it can allow you to do some RIDICULOUS combos)
UI and translation conerns, I can understand, there are some cards and abilities that are written poorly and can be confusing, or outright be wrong, for example card that discards a card and gives you mana for it says 'discard random card', but in fact you can choose, so either that's bug or it's meant to be picked
UI, honestly I like it, but that is very much a matter of taste so not gonna say much there
For 'What the fuck is going on', honestly, you just need to read, it's same as with Slay the Spire, hover over the enemy and read what their passives and skills they are going to use do, it's not that hard, I've yet to see a turn that I'm like 'what the hell just happened', if you bother to read, which is pretty much the basic of a game, than you should have no problem
Once agian, some cards and skills are poorly translated, I get that, but come on, it's Early Acces game, of coruse it won't be polished
Every enemy can have passive, but most don't really, there are few who have just outright passives that trigger all the time, like the early game Shaman that has passive of rising ATK of his allies each turn (Of course only when he is on enemy side), than there are some that get defence passively, or heal passively, but usually it's skills
Some skills have hidden effects, or random effects, for example the big Eye of Beholder (I can't remember the name) in area 1 has chance to inflict one of 3 effects on action, Wound, Poison or Frail (Wound does bit of bonsu dmg, Frail doubles dmg, Poison I already explained)
I can understand some of the UI is bit annoying, mainly with the defensive stat of enemy, but once again, it is about reading, you just can't be completely lazy and think game will play for yourself
Now for other comment that was posted
Everything is slow... Honestly, yea, I can't argue there, there 'is' a speed up button that is supposed to make things faster, but I don't think it properly works or the speed up is very minimal, but don't forget, Slay the Spire did not have many of those functions on the first launch in Early Acces either, if you actually played back than like I did since initial release on steam
Each Hero has 5 total abilities
  • Leader skill - Passive that benefits either the Hero, specific type of allies or all allies, or it can also be negative to enemies
  • Passive skill - Skill that simply works when condition is met, for example if unit is under HP treshold, they get DEF each turn
  • Than 3 activatable skills that are used trough the Orb system that I already explained in details, these skills can have various effects from simple dmg, status effects, drawing card, and so on, you start with first 2 skills unlocked each game and 3rd is unlocked with 10 red crystals (Red crystals are hero specific and have no other use, you get them as well as Blue crystals for other unit upgrades and card removal, as well as gold which I think you can guess what it is used for), than you get Mastery points for each map location you visit which unlock permanent bonuses both for general gameplay and hero specific)
  • Each of these abilities has tier 1 and tier 2 effect, tiers 2 usually have much more powerful effect, like I already mentioned with example of Belfamie, instead of activating orb for Support class only, it activates for everyone, and that's BIG
Common units have 3 activatable abilities with 2 being already unlocked and 3rd you gotta unlock, and all can be upgraded to lvl 2 like for heroes
Elite units have 3 activatable abilities with 2 being already unlcoked as well as Passive skill already unlocked, and you can unlock 3rd skill as well as upgrade all skills and the passive
Some of the skills can be... Underwhelming, I understand that, but that is the thing, PROGRESSION, I am in area 3 and skills I got are nuts, so you can't judge the skill system to be 'some crap passive buff that's annoying to use',
Overal, I really don't think people that criticized the game gave it nearly enough time to know what the game is about, I would guess it's typical '0.5 hours played' review on Steam really, I gave the game at least 10 hours by now and I am LOVING IT, and I am very critical of games I play at times, but this game pulled me in and I absolutely love it and I can't wait to see it getting properly updated, it probably will get mod support too which is great, certainly worth the try and probably a buy too once more features and polish is in
So no, the game is by no means Slay the Spire ripoff, it has its own unique mechanics and just cause you play cards in it doesn't mean it's ripoff, or is StS ripoff of Solitaire?
And even if it WAS ripoff, who gives a damn? Game is fun, I will gladly play this 'ripoff' and enjoy it, StS is great game, I love it, and modding gives it so many new options, but this game is by no means some crappy ripoff, in its current state, it HAS flaws, quite few in fact, but they can be overlooked if you actually give it some time and try the game for real, I did, and I am glad I did
Ok, now that this is off of my mind, excuse me as I got run to get back to, and more stuff to find about the game, like, is there area 4?
Edit2: Yes, there is, but ti's not in just yet, and looks like are 4 is only boss fight with final boss, so you better be healed up before you go there

this game's so goddamn UNFUN
everything is super slow, there's a bunch of characters to unlock but all their gimmicks are some basic shit that makes almost no difference, and being locked on how to play your cards just to active some crap passive buff is really annoying. if there ever was a bad Slay the spire ripoff that needed a fix it sure would be this game.

One of better looking StS-like games I've seen so far (Do we call them that now? I don't even know)
EDIT: So, after playing it for few hours now I must say this game certainly has potential, as far as this kind of card game goes, it is really fun, so far I didn't enjoy almost any StS like games that I played and I tried a LOT of them, this one however certainly kept me entertained, the progressive upgrade system, hero variety, Skill system and some pretty fun combos you can do already in it certainly show promise
Not telling you to go and buy it right away, but certanly keep your eye on this game, I for sure will and most likely end up buying it myslef if they keep updating it
