This is a great game, I've been playing it so much lately! It's even better than AoE! The building are beautiful! You can have armies of thousands instead of a Pop limit of 75 or 200. Some tips if you don't know how to play...
Go to Single Player and then Single Mission, play The Return of the Wihte Gods. You'll learn a lot about the game here.
Go to the Campaign menu and play Columbus's Campaign. You'll learn everything about formations, building etc.
Some Campaigns and scenarios are almost impossible to beat, but it always helps to attack your enemy until your units are completely upgraded and you have hundreds of units. As for defending your town, always garrison units inside, even villagers, but it's be best to garrison Fusiliers or Pikemen.
Always build a Mill first, so you can start collecting food ASAP, I alwasy forget about it and my people start dying x'D
Upgrade your mines and protect them with soldiers/warriors.
Always try using formations of 196 units, especially for fusiliers and archers.
The quickest way to beat the AI is using hundreds of Pikemen or units with high defense and occupy the enemy's buildings! This will make that bulding yours and it will also increase your Pop Limit! This is useful, cosidering buldings become very expensive througout the game.
When playing random maps, send priests to the Native American tribes (brown dots on the mini map), this will make them your allies. don't forget to build Gold Mines, so you can pay them and they'll start attacking your enemies!
All civs are great, but I prefer the Aztecs and the Britons.
Never play Sioux if there's no water.
Delawares are weak but have huge armies, they can build dozens of houses and other buildings making it almost impossible to siege, but the key is to destroy their barracks first, so they can't keep spaming soldiers.
When playing against western civs, always try to garrison their fortresses and forts by force! They'll now be yours and now you can use them to destroy the enemies house's and mills!
If you're having trouble with some missions, you can press ENTER and then type babki, then press ENTER again, this will give you 50,000 of each resource! Have Fun!
